Advent. Went to mass. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed awhile. Fourth’s of Tiptown was here, looked at hiefers [sic] & colt. John Myerscough also came to see them; him & papa went out to see the horses at Henry’s. The Turkey dinner on Thanksgiving here brought in clear $153; he says success. Oscar Birkner had the baby christened Fri; sponsors Ben Schilling Cecelia Krehrer; named it Muriel Cecelia. Pretty cold tonite, freezing hard.

Cleaned hen house. Rose got the papers, ordered the license $18.78 this year. Whip was the same price $12.00 but chev. is only $6.50. We went to Ruma to Myerscoughs & Tiptown to Colemans, & Dugan’s to see about pigs. Mr. Mehrman got the eggs 31¢. Miss Lena Geodelle of Waterloo, Henry Geodelle’s daughter is at St. Marys Hospital for treatments. Dorthy Myerscough is attending Normal College; at Normal, Ill; is home for holidays. Florence goes to High School at Red Bud; Margret is still at the convent, & can’t come home for 2 years.

Pap & Rose fixed fence. Henry is up again harrowing. had lunch & dinner & finished about 3 o clock. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came & took Rose & Bert along to Donahue’s. Tipton Parish gave a lotto & euchre party, good crowd. Uncle had 9 points got coffee percolator, had mostly pillow slip prizes; none us got any; Rose had 4 & Bert 5 & Aunt Mary 6, no luck; attendance prize was a bedspread; they also raffled a chair; it went to St. Louis; had a dance after the euchre, Keller & Hempe playing, also had a lot of fried chicken, each family had to donate one.

Canned 1 qt. pickles & ½ pt. tomatoes. Rose fixed Bert a skirt. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary was up had lunch here. Bert took some cucumber pickles over to Clara; they got a 6 lb. fish from Hy. Armstutz. Mr. & Mrs. Milton Wagner have a 8 lb. baby boy born this morning, everybody is well they say; that increases the Hecker population to 201. We went to Red Bud, then out to Tiptown to see Mike Elonka, about some pigs, but his were sold; then went to Burksville Station to see Van De Reit, to see a cow that Finnerty has to sell there for $40.00, old; then to Waterloo got beef bone for soup tomorrow; then home, had supper.

Labor Day. We canned damson plums & jelly. Firemen’s pinic [sic] at Red Bud; chicken supper at Donahues, Tipton parish giving it there. We went to Red Bud to see the parade & pinic [sic] awhile then went to Donahue’s, stayed for the dance. Adm 25. A C Buchon’s Orch. It started in raining about 5 o clock, & went home then. Not much of a crowd in the evening, quite a few had supper. The Smithons [sic] Catholics have pinic [sic] also, we have chances on there, things that are to be raffled, cash, – etc. Henry started plowing this afternoon here, had lunch.

Baked bread, had chicken dressing. Papa took lawn mower to Fritsche to get it repaired. Evansville church, & Tipton church have pinics [sic] today; & chicken suppers. Loyd Pabst came got sacks, threshing oats today. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went to Belleville came back here for dinner had chicken. Sure is hot this afternoon & day. Mrs. Emma Altis of St. Louis Mo. died, be buried tomorrow afternoon, she was a Freese, Uncle Fred niece; & Mr. Jim Parker 85 died last nite at 5:30; be buried Fri. morning at Hecker Church & cemetery. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, went along with us to the wake, he looks natural. Koch undertaker, he would be 86 in Sept. Aunt Mary brought plums.

Baked bread. Papa went to Belleville. Tipton congregation had chicken supper yesterday; & Mr. Walsh student of Holy Priesthood here selling papers, we took it Catholic Extension Magazine $3.00 yr. rosary with it. he is selling that, to help the missions. Henry came & cut & raked hay. had dinner & lunch. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up this evening she got her dress from Mrs. Staufenbiel’s. Sure hot 105 this aternoon. The Waterloo paper has that while Clyde Crowe was playing ball Sun. afternoon, in running after a foul ball, his pants caught fire, but it was put out & no damage was done; & another guy stepped on a rabbit & killed it some exciting ball game they lost track of the score. Harrisonville won all both game here with Hecker last Sun.

Raining again, sure terrible, no corn planted yet, its awful. Rose fixed paps shirt. Tiptown has euchre party at Burksville station tonite, was giving it for the last 2 weeks now; Farm Bureau has a meeting & movie show at Pautler’s farm tonite. Papa & Rose went out to Henry’s, he took the truck & went to Waterloo to Rahns & got a ice box for nothing, they were going to make kindling out of it, Emil came down, & helped to unload it. Eggs are 21¢. Pap got chain letter today Red Bud. Rose sent hers of 10¢ to Battermann of Carder. Ms. Qurin & Armstutz cow tester was here, but it rained so much, they didn’t go to it, coming again some other day. Mrs. Euler is in Red Bud Hospital now, was taken there since Mon; was to high at Mary’s Hospital at E. St. Louis, $1,000.00 for 1 mo; without nurse; she is awful bad, cancer of throat or jaw. Phil Mueth told that to Emil.

We washed, hung it in the basement, cleaned chick house. Went out to Henry’s this afternoon, finished the front room, put wax floor & furniture, beat the rug etc. Emil was down awhile. Uncle Adam’s birthday 86 yrs old; girls were home yesterday he said. Mr. & Mrs. Gus Geodelle came out, Henry has a sick heifer. Eggs 21¢. Rose took old hens to Eichenseers, got 16¢ for 6 – .08 for 1. Hy Volkmann is pretty sick, has double pneoumiana [sic], have a nurse there now at nights; no one is allowed in, only the ones that take care of him. Tiptown parish is giving euchre tonite. Mrs. Neff is getting buried this morning, from the home of Ben Neff to Paderborn, church & cemetery; that is his mother, also Mrs. Joe Schilling.
