Beautiful day again. Went to mass. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stayed awhile; Harry Wittenauer came on business. Henry & family came had supper here this afternoon. We went to Orlet’s, went along with them to Paderborn to closing of 13 hr. Devotion & went back again & played cards. Fr. Brandmeyer made good sermon.

Beautiful day. Indian Summer they call it. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came went along with us this afternoon to Bozzay’s sale, they are going to St. Louis; start rooming house & her daughter Elvira Hoffmanns are going to move there Crooks farm. Went to Waterloo to church, & back home; stopped at Henry’s beef is all sold. Bert [Bertille] went along with A. [Aunt] Mary to rosary devotion tonite.

Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary up this afternoon. Clara Gregson came here till Emil got back, he was out at the place. We took load wheat – 17 bus. to Waterloo got 87¢. top is 90¢; ordered Times. H. Wittenauer is putting up hay. Henry is going to butcher a heifer again this afternoon, but it is awful warm today. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] came brought apples for A. [Aunt] Mary; plow share down.

Sure some nice weather. to warm. Pap went out in woods, hauled home some butchering wood. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came up this morning, had dinner here; fixing pumps etc. Bert [Bertille] fixed curtains. Emil moved in this afternoon, Joe & Levi Gregson helping. Mehrmann got 8 doz. eggs @ 25¢. took bu. turnips along again. Schmidt brought egg mash down, & settled the lard, we sold 6 gals. The Catholics have euchre in Red Bud tonite. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary had 10 got house slippers & U. [Uncle] Fred – 11 – dress goods; not much of a crowd, Seifert got quilt that was raffled; prizes were all seperated. [sic]

Beautiful day. Pap sewed timothy seed in truck patch. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up this afternoon, also Emil was up. They came this eve. again & Bert [Bertille] went along to Paderborn to euchre, & dance. Bert got water pitcher had 8-12 games. Uncle & A. [Aunt] got nothing had 4 points each. Rheinhardts Hossier Hot Shots furnished musci [sic] for dance.

Beautiful day. Kleins got the mule this morn. $125.00 We went to Leo’s; started at 7:30 cutting chop; finished dinner time & sawed hrs. wood this afternoon. Wacthel outfit & Jake & 2 J. Mueth’s, & M. Karban – 8 men altogether. C. Buehler stopped in took Henry’s hide from heifer along to St. Louis. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up this afternoon. Emil & Josie were also cleaning etc; brought tub dishes etc.
Monday, Oct. 25, 1937
Beautiful, so warm today. Washed, ironed, put up new curtain. Pap dug the garden over; assorted potatoes etc. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up this afternoon, he cut the mulberry tree of by garden fence, & trimmed up some trees. Emil & Clara were also there washing windows, scrubbing floors etc. Rained a little shower this eve. Bert [Bertille] went to Hecker, paid light bill 8 hrs. this time. Uncle Fred took bu. potatoes along 40¢ & gave them some turnips. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] came to tell us they are going to cut chop tomorrow, they went to Smithton from here to get Leo’s dad, going to start early.

Mission. Went to mass. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stopped awhile; beef soup dinner today. They came up this afternoon & Berti [Bertille] went along out picking up hickory nuts, & went to see Uncle Matts woods, were the saw mill had been, where they made railroad ties & etc; big lot of slabs there now yet. Beautiful day; got about 2 gals. nuts; from 3 trees. Mr & Mrs. Dominic Klein & son Ignatius was here looked at the mule, & bought him for $125 going to get him, either Mon. eve or early Tues. morn. Pap was at Wagner’s.

John Braun came talking oil leasing again. Wagner kids got ½ bu. sweet potatoes 50¢. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came Bert went along to Floraville to Keim’s wedding dance of Clarence Keim & Lydia Doerr, attendants were Miss Keim & Horn boys Waterloo; such crowd received few presents; bride had blue dress. Henry & Billy [Willis] came, brought beef up. 55¢ for us & A. [Aunt] Mary he as roast & ours soup. 16 & 18¢ he sold it for; at Waterloo. Ed. Scheinader was the butcher. Pretty cold froze ice last nite.

Cold & light rain & snow. Henry & boys brought load corn. Bert [Bertille] baked cookies & cake. Emil was here all afternoon. Freedman’s Furniture Co. of Belleville brought his stove things & rug out about 4:30 this eve; put it up. There was a fellow going to sleep in our straw shed over nite, pap wouldn’t allow him there, told him to go to town jail, he says they don’t keep nobody over nite in there, he left from here anyway went back to town. Pete Wacthels called there baby boy Lee Roy. Dr Vogel of Columbia have a baby also. Pap pulled the rest of turnips out & plowed the patch; wagon load this time; so many. Henry & boys brought load cord up; this morn. going to kill heifer today.
