Rained last nite, cloudy this morn. Ed Pabst had shooting match yesterday, also gave attendance prize. We cleaned hen house, etc. Burdgorgf looked at the sow, bought it for $8.50 lb; got it his eve. weighed 470 lbs; went to Hy. Hepps to get heifers also, he is going to move to Red Bud tomorrow. Pap went to Red Bud got the money & seen hog weighed. Rained today, showers. Eggs 28¢.

Last Day of the year & how beautiful, I must say. We went out to Uncle Freds, had dinner & supper there. Clifford Stahelbers wife is in St. Louis at Mt. Rose Sanatorium she has T.B. [tuberculosis]; isn’t well at all, had been steady in bed for 2 weeks. We seen the picture of Walter Stahl & Elvira Qurin in the papers attendants, Edgar Stahl & Viola Quirin, 21 & 19, aged were married at St. Johns Evangical [sic] Church by Rev. Hasto on day before Christmas. Bill Dengarhardt 27, of Bellevile & Rethuermann girl were married yesterday at Cetreville Station by Fr. Keuth, he is Geo. Dengenharts.

Raining all morning heavy. This afternoon sun shining nice, radio says cold weather tonite. Eggs 26¢ today. A fellow here, wanted to buy timber. Lohmann on Ben Schilling farm is going to make wood; hauled it up, 40¢ load, going to start soon. Mauff vegatable [sic] man was around. The St. Libory players are giving a play at Paderborn tonite. Leo came & we went to the play & dance, sure was nice. “A Hill Billy Courtship” was the name; pretty good crowd. Schoenborn & Skaer played for the dance. It is getting somewhat colder, high wind.

We washed, ironed some, we hung it in basement, so cloudy this morn. but the sun shined awhile this afternoon. We sent New Year Cards away. Stahl & Qurin were married Christmas. We found 26 eggs. today not bad; eggs are cheaper now. A man was here yesterday, selling 7 books for 25¢, relating to the bible, he says Christ will destroy this world in near future. Gus. Klotz is going to butcher 4 hogs tomorrow; if weather is nice.

Cloudy, rained yesterday & last nite a little. Eggs 28 & 27¢. Rose sewed 20 aprons. Mr. & Mrs. Clarence Wittenauer have a baby girl born last nite, was in Hecker yesterday afternoon yet; last nite was born in St. Louis. Mr. Hy. Volkmann is sick in bed for 2 mons. now.

Went to Red Bud mass. Leo & All & Gertie came & we all went to Paulters free dance; nice crowd. Rythm [sic] Kings Orch. Walter Monike has 10½ lb. baby boy, Gertie is working there.

Cleaned. Rained a little, warm & cloudy. We got a electric lamp from J. Keller for Christmas bucket style. We got an invitation for Is. Helfrichs birthday dance at Floraville at Kern’s tonite, also is V. Cortner’s. Advent is over, dances start again, Oak Grove has one, give $1. for attendance price every hr. tonite. Pautler’s has double birthday dance tomorrow nite all free. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here for dinner, he went to Waterloo & to Red Bud this afternoon. Played cards.
Friday, Dec. 25, 1936
Christmas Day. Went to 5 o clock mass; lasted till 7 o’clock had solemn High mass 3 priests; Church was crowded. It rained a little when we came out of church. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary & Henry & family & Leo were all here for dinner & supper, had 2 ducks. Sure beautiful day, had the doors open all day, after dinner sat on the back porch on north side, so nice an warm. We played cards afternoon & evening. Rose went along with Leo to his folks tonite.

Cleaned & fixed the ducks, 7 & 8½ lbs. they weighed. Went to Belleville Rose went to dentist, went to church. Sure a nice day, so warm we have windows & doors open. Robert Laut has his electric put in & has a radio, installed. Slopy [sic] weather & roads. Leo came down this evening, we light the Christmas tree.

Cleaned 2 ducks, fixed Christmas tree electric lights. Mauff vegtable [sic] man was here, we didn’t buy anything, pap went up town, got oranges, nuts. Rose got Christmas cards from Irene Helfrich. Bert got 1 from Omer. Pap tried his luck on box candy 10¢ & fruit cake .02. Pap & Rose went out to Henry’s got load oats. Beautiful day.
