Clem Parker was here, he is hauling our coal in working for Chris Buehler’s; he had dinner here, he hauled 3 loads, 177½ bus. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came brought some more plums, we cooked preserves canned 2 qts. Uncle called Johnson Rendering works to come out & get the lay mare, she lays around can’t get up any more. Jung stopped in for old hens. We went out to Uncle Freds, took watermelons along.

We canned 7 qts damson plums 5 qts. sourkraut [sic], 2 peaches, 1 tomatoe this morning. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came we went to Mike Maher’s sale Waterloo, bought all kind of articles; Uncle Fred got 2 tables for 15¢, they had supper here, then papa & Uncle took the truck & went after the rest of the things they bought.

Today the farmers meet in Hecker School house signing the contract for the wheat proposition. Henry was here for dinner, he signed; Some boys where around selling papers to get votes to go to school. Mrs. Rennecker, was here awhile, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary brought peaches & damson plums.
Monday, Aug. 28, 1933
It rained heavy last nite. Henry came up with load hogs, 8 pigs, papa went along over to E. St. Louis market, with him, the government bought today, over 80,000 there when they left, the yard. Henry had dinner here. Mr. H. M. Hill was here taking items. Mrs. Stauenfbiel was here on business, Celestine Neff came down to get here. Mr. & Mrs. Henry Meng celebrated there golden Wedding Anniv. yesterday also, two neighbors, Meng & Hill celebrated same day; Meng had eight of beer, & Hill a keg beer. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up had supper here, they sold some damson plums in town; she went to Dr. Eckerts, got something for her mouth; she brought peaches, got 2 qts.

We went out to Uncle Freds for dinner & supper. Mrs. Authur [sic – Arthur] Roscow came along from church up here, she went to see Mrs. Stauenfbiel; they came here awhile after we got home. Henry came up & got our truck to haul hogs to the market tomorrow. Miss Josie Keller & Miss Kuhn where here this evening for supper. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came to; had watermelon lunch, they left about 9:30, then the alarm ring came of Ald. Rittmeyer’s house was on fire, went over to Wagner’s, papa & George went out; everything was ablase [sic], summer kitchen & house, burned to the ground, & all that was in it, they where up at Belleville, so all they have left is what is on there backs 1 car, Smithon [sic] fire department came but no good, no water no where’s. Mr & Mrs. H. M. Hill observed there golden Wedding Anniversary today, which will be Aug. 30 Wed; all the children, grandchildren where present, lot of musci [sic] furnished.

Papa went to the barber shop, then went down to the school house, sale. of tin roof & old lumber. Bill Stehfest bought it. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stopped here, they went to Belleville. Maniers have grand opening tonite in the pavilion.
Friday, Aug. 25, 1933
We marked all our chickens; canned 2 qts tomatoes & cooked catsup. Henry & boys where up, this morn; Albert Gregson died on Aug. 19 & was buried 23; that is Russell father, was at church at Round Prairie, & buried there also. The logs men from Collinsville was here trying to buy logs 1½ ft.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary 35 Wedding Anniversary. We requested “Mountain Musci [sic],” over the radio for them. Monadville [sic- Madonnaville] have church pinic [sic]. Miss Evelyn Roscow is visting [sic] folks & realatives [sic] of hers, around here now, she is going to leave soon for school in New Haven Conn. Papa & Bertille dug potatoes. Levi Gregson stopped to get drink water. Schaws the brewery man was around to see some people about taking up stock for the big building they want to put up at Red Bud. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, we all went to Red Bud to Waterloo. Bert got a pair shoe $1.95 from Helbers at Red Bud. Henry was at Belleville, stopped in on his way home. George Wagner came over.

We cleaned hen houses back yard, hauled oats, & water. Rosalia & Bertille took dress goods, & went out to Aunt Mary’s, had dinner, lunch, there, got the dresses pretty well done. George Boll was here.
