Went to mass, 7:30 from now on. Ettling from Floraville looked at horses. Leo & Rose came, had dinner & supper here. Gusta Dudenhoeffer & Margaret were here short while, out at Maniers dropped down see how we all were. Pete Matzenbacher had shooting match this afternoon. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came Bert [Bertille] went along to Paderborn Totsch’s free dance & fish fry, Rheinhardt & Schoenborn, Geodelle & Bocker musci [sic] Och. large crowd. there is free opening dance at Brezzy [sic] Hill by A. Josten of Valmeyer who now has charge, Mr. & Mrs. Maul moved back to St. Louis. KMOX Radio Stars playing at Oak Grove.

Sunday, Aug. 8, 1937

Went to early mass. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stayed awhile, brought a watermelon along that they bought at Red Bud store; had real watermelon lunch, couldn’t eat half of it 28 lbs. it weighed. Ralph Wiegand stopped in & brought Rose Wedding present at tea kettle aluminum. Steve Rennecker came here awhile then went up to pinic [sic]. The Ladies Aid have there pinic [sic] today at Maniers Park; dance this eve. chicken supper. Uncle Fred & A. Mary, Leo & Rose came we ate watermelons then went to pinic [sic]; much larger crowd; quilt went to Ad. Rittmeyer’s girl, bed spread Hy Armstutz & pillow slip, I don’t know; It was awful cloudy, hot, thundering, but it didn’t rain very much, light shower this eve late.

Henry came, looked at the wheat, pap went out there this morning, started but had to quit; it is to green yet; wait till Mon. now, then cut up here. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went up, we all went to Waterloo to Streicher’s sale, bought 35¢. All kind fruit jars, for 10¢ 35 of them. Went to church this afternoon at Waterloo. Rose & Bert went to Maniers got fish sandwiches & beer. Boy it was good.

Saturday, July 21, 1934

Papa went along with G. Wagner to Homringhausen sale this afternoon, household good was sold, at a fair price. Those people are going back to Germany again & shipping a new Chev, along, that they just purchased, awhile back. Rudolph Eichelmann’s boy bough Uncle Fred’s Ford coupe; from Nobbe, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this evening, went to the fish fry & dance; musci [sic] by Keohler’s Orch. at Maniers, not enough fish they say, not many in the hall; dancing. We went to Donahue’s, Moonlighters musci [sic], & big crowd; & good time. 22 bus oats Pabst.

Papa went to the barber shop, then went down to the school house, sale. of tin roof & old lumber. Bill Stehfest bought it. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stopped here, they went to Belleville. Maniers have grand opening tonite in the pavilion.
