The Hecker fire co gave a dance last nite at Maniers, had a big crowd. Moonlighters played & on there way home Keim’s driving & his car, with Ben Schilling, Walter Braun, Armin Bectholdt, upset his car, other side of Kemps. Ben has sore arm, & shoulder. Uncle Fred, Aunt Mary & Bert went in to Belleville hospital, Omer came to there this evening.

Fried down bacon & sausage. Send a order to Chicago Mail Order for shoes, felts for pap. Today Barbara Schoenborn of Paderborn working at Belleville & Roos are being married at the Catherdral [sic] at Belleville, dance at Daab’s Club House tonite, musci [sic] by Clem Rheinhardt & Gus Schaefer & Jake Schoenborn. & Joe Freund & Viola Einwich have a double birthday dance at Pautler’s, musci [sic] by Moonlighters, Gents 25 ladies free & goose as attendance prize, he send Berti a invitation card. Hy. Armstutz brought load corn. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this evening & took Rose & Berti along, went to Pautlers to the birthday dance; Lanking won the goose, but he has so many; so they gave him $1.50; 1 kept the goose; pretty nice crowd.

Mission. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed awhile after church; going to Frank Birkner’s pear peeling tonite. We had backbone soup. Went to Henkels this afternoon to look at hogs; went over to Burksville, to Kruse’s, Edlers place, & to McCarthy’s by mistake, they also had shooting match, we tried twice, on a goose & turkey, but didn’t get none; came through Waterloo home, The Hecker base ball team giving a dance at Kammler’s tonite Moonlight Orch; I don’t think it was much. Adm 25¢; we didn’t go, went to bed early. Lady here wanted eggs.

Homecoming at Belleville. We went in this afternoon to church. Free dance at Oak Grove, & Double birthday at Pautler’s. Adm. gents 25 ladies free. Moonlight Orc. Jac. Reheis birthday today. Henry & family came up this evening; fixed hair & etc.

We canned 12 qts peaches this morning, went to Belleville this afternoon. Buehler’s are threshing again, awful warm. We went to Pautlers tonite, Osie & Bill Matzenbacher’s birthday dance, nice crowd, Moonlighter Orc. Adm. gents 25 ladies free.

Papa went over to Meng’s a little to see the barn. We got the check for our chickens that we shipped, got 17¢ medium springs & broilers 15½¢. & heavy hens 16½¢. Mertz charged 65¢ for hauling. Papa & Rose went to Waterloo with a load wheat; got 73¢ bu; there was also a train wrecked, sale on Rickert lot; things sold so cheap, papa bought paint for $1.50 & 80¢ gal; vanilla 2 bottle $1. for 25¢ etc so much. Rose went to Hecker, paid Ted Eichenseer for house insurance $24.90; some cheaper than last year. Eggs 20¢. We went to Waterloo to Pautler’s, Paderborn baseball club gave a dance, Moonlighters playing.

Presidents 53 Birthday Ball; tonite, 3 in Monroe Co. Mr. Meister & Krupp was here, looked at the farm implements. Papa went out to Henry’s helped measure wheat ground. Henry & Ed. Schmidt came here, measured up here then. Most beautiful day, so nice warm. Birthday dances tonite at Pautlers Old Time, musci [sic] by Moonlighters, one at Odd Fellows modern & at Columbia; 40¢ ticket, can attend all three, for the same one.
Monday, Dec. 31, 1934
Baked bread, & pie. Went to Belleville, sold roosters & 13¢ eggs. 30¢. Cloudy again today. We got set dishes 8 piece each, $2.60 set. Mrs. Hy. Henze died last night; will be buried Wed. at Round Prairie cemetery. There is a New Year’s Eve party, at Pautler’s tonite, Musci [sic] by Moonlighters, from 9 till 3 o’clock. There surely was a noise, in town here this eve. at 12 o clock, ringing of bells, shooting etc.

Papa took the feed up to be crushed but they didn’t start till late & Roy said he would bring it down at noon, so he did. We went out to Henry’s butchering 2 pigs, it rained & sleet all the while they were scalding them; we ground the sausage meat, with the machine wheel, went through in a hurry; had dinner, cleaned & scrubbed everything; brought Rose [Rosalia] along home; got 1935 calandars [sic] from Eichenseers tonight. Geo. Geodelle is having a birthday dance at Pautler’s tonite, Adm. Gents 25, ladies free Moonlighters playing. Miss Burgess Hecker school teacher has changed boarding places, has moved from Jatho’s to B Frilsther’s.
