Cloudy & warmer today. Leona came & Billy [Willis]. Henry brought them, then went back home again, they helped quilt, had dinner & supper, also Henry & boys came up for supper. Leo & family came to, we finished the quilt & took it out this eve.; played tricks, popped corn etc.

Pres. Birthday. Ball’s being held all over this eve, some were held Sat. & Sun. nite also. Some awful weather some places. Chicago 11 ins snow. St. Louis 5 ins snow 28 [degrees]. not so cold here, as in some places.
Sunday, Jan. 29, 1939
Went to Red Bud; raining all day & nite an awful wind. Bill [Klein] came, we played cards this evening. Aloys Roth have a baby girl; Fr. Spor’s wasn’t satisfied with the results of the euchre Thurs. nite $42. clear.
Saturday, Jan. 28, 1939
Raining. We got our drivers license card today. Mrs. Frank Birkner is pretty sick, had Fr. Aydt out.
Friday, Jan. 27, 1939
Nice day. Ironed, patched, quilted. Mertz delivered 100 lbs. hog pellets. Eggs 14 [cents].
Thursday, Jan. 26, 1939
Nice day warm. A. [Aunt] Mary’s birthday 62 yrs. old. We went out this afternoon, had supper. Went with Whip. roads aren’t so nice. Pap went to Larsons by Burksville bought 8 pigs $34.00. Leo & family, Bill [Klein], came this eve; we quilted & played cards. Red Bud church has euchre tonite. Frank Birkners have a baby girl since Tues. also Oliver Quirins a girl Belleville hospital since Jan 21. Billy [Willis] has got pink eye now. Floyd arm is sore.
Tuesday, Jan. 24, 1939
Went to Leo’s butchering, not so cold 28. Roads are little slippy, we put chains on Whip, got there O.K. little muddy coming home; got through alright; made summer sausage to; Catholic Euchre in Waterloo tonite.
Monday, Jan. 23, 1939
Went out to Henry’s butchering 450 lb. hog boys were home no school, there eyes are alright; again. Somebody was here & swept paths for us. It snowed all day & tonite sheet ice, not so cold tonite about 30 [degrees].
Sunday, Jan. 22, 1939
Went to mass; rather cold again for change, its 20 [degrees] above this morn. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stayed awhile, went home. Leo & family came this afternoon, went to Red Bud, to Dr. Pautler got vaccinated, that is Leo & Marita $1.50; not good to all get it at same time. Bill [Klein] came, he went to Dr. Eckert’s his folks all were vaccinated today. Eckert does it little different then Pautler; he also charges $1. person. We got Emil over for a pinochle game this eve; about 5 or 6 games.
