Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s, got load wheat 17 bus. took it to Red Bud got 74¢, this afternoon took 17 bus. to Waterloo & got 79¢. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went up; had lunch, we cooked cheese & Boy! is it good. We picked our cherries; ¾ of a gallon. Hy Rahn & family & Claude Crowe, had auto accident at Hellmers corner Sun evening Crowe was going to pass Rahn just as he was going to turn in the street by Hellmer at Waterloo, Rahn was hurt, with cuts & bruises, & fractured ribs, his car upset. Claude is Oliver Crowe’s son. Henry & family came, left the kids here & we went along to Waterloo to CCC camp, had a dance in the mash room & so many people, 3 orchestras played music. High school, Pals of Harmony & camp band; nice place. The Catholic School children have there play & graduation exercises tonite. Adm. 25¢. Raffling a quilt out also. It was in the paper the case between Christ & Frank Buehler was dimissed [sic] to Randolph Co; was at Waterloo Mon.

Thursday, May 30, 1935

Decoration Day also Ascension Holiday. We went to Waterloo to mass. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here awhile. We went to Waterloo to School pinic [sic]; took our dinner along, seen the parade, lot of children. went out to the cemetery, seen Aunt Lizzies grave, flowers on it now, there & went to see Ed. Mavers by Foster Pond; came back for pinic [sic] again, free danceing [sic] all afternoon, Moonlight Orch. This evening at 7:30 they have donkey softball at Pautler Park, that is to be good playing ball on donkeys. Adm. 10 & 25¢; dance at 9 when the ball game is over, trained donkey 13 came from Colorado on at truck. We went to see Perry May awhile, & then went to the free dance given at Oak Grove by Nite Owl Orch. of Red Bud nice crowd. Free oranges & lemonade were given away at the pinic [sic].

Wednesday, May 29, 1935

We washed, ironed. Henry & Emil brought the cavass [sic] back, & got Emils wagon by Geodells again. Baked cake & cookies. Went to Belleville this afternoon, to church. Zita Carrol wanted to ride home with us, we waited for her, but she had gone home with some body else; she called & told us. Mrs. Renneckers birthday. It was cloudy this morning, but turned nice.

Tuesday, May 28, 1935

Rose & Berti went to Red Bud, to church, got chick feed. Henry came to put up hay, & it rained just when he got here; so he had dinner, sun came out & dried off pretty good so they put it up yet, Emil came with the wagon, Uncle Fred helped yet, they all had lunch here. We helped Aunt Mary plant out tomatoe [sic] plants yet. Emil broke the bolster on his wagon by Armin Geodells, so they took his wagon & papa went out & helped reload it on Geodells wagon, some time. We went out to Henry’s helped them unload the hay, got 1 load off & started in to rain, so they had to quite [sic – quit], rained quite a little. We planted pickle seed.

Monday, May 27, 1935

We girls, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary & Leona & Billy went to church, Mrs. Eulers funeral, from Querheim Chapel at Waterloo to Hecker Church 9′ o clock; large funeral quite a few flowers. Just 18 yrs. mother dead. Henry & boys came up to make hay, had dinner. Emil came with the wagon this afternoon, & Pete Watchel helped yet, all had lunch here. It started in to rain, so they didn’t get finished with the hay. G. Wagner here a little while. Eggs 21¢ today. Rogation Day’s.

Sunday, May 26, 1935

Went to Red Bud. Mr. Davis & man of Belleville were here looked at the colt. George Wagners family were here this afternoon & evening. Merrimac played Hecker here & won, 2 games lost for Hecker. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary & Henry & family all came this evening, to take in the music at Kammler’s Hall, baseball club gave a dance, Radio Stars Jimmy Dickie playing $20.00, we & Henry & Leona went in & Boy what a crowd & good time, Oh Boy! They sure are good.

Saturday, May 25, 1935

Beautiful day. Mrs. Frances Euler died Thurs. evening 9 o clock at Red Bud hospital, will be buried Mon. morning from Waterloo to Hecker church & cemetery. She was 66 yrs. old. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came went along with us, this evening, we stopped at L. Sheas place & then went to Waterloo to see Mrs. Euler, about half hr. few more there, then we went to Pautler’s to Peiffer of Marystown birthday dance, ladies free. Moonlight Orchestra.

Friday, May 24, 1935

Henry’s birthday & wedding Ann. 31 yrs. & 7 yrs. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up all day had lunches & dinner here. We worked garden. Henry came & cut hay, had lunch. School kids was here selling tickets for there play on May 31; we didn’t take none. 25 Adm. Planted out tomatoes & sweet potatoes plants; Went out to Henry’s birthday this evening, had cake, we & Uncle Fred & Aunt were the only ones present; took cabbage plants along.

Thursday, May 23, 1935

Went to Belleville, papa got 3 teeth pulled by Dr. Wagner $3.50 was allowed $1 for gold crown on tooth. Rose & Bert went to Red Bud, went to Felcias Roscows got dress pattern, & we got 2 sacks feed from Zipfel. Rose took 6 doz. eggs. 21¢. Dr. Smith of Red Bud, his wife left him Sat., also Krehns fired hired girl. Henry came after wire stretcher, this evening.

Wednesday, May 22, 1935

Finished the dresses. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came here, then went to Belleville, they brought us 5¢ – 2 gal. skim milk along from the creamery, to make cheese. Papa got hair cut. We cleaned hen house, & put the young spring roosters over & fed them up to sell. Clifford gave up his job by Waterloo, & came back to Meng’s again now. Eggs are 20½¢ at Mertz today. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up, she went to church. It started in to rain again a little this evening & cloudy.
