Decoration Day also Ascension Holiday. We went to Waterloo to mass. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here awhile. We went to Waterloo to School pinic [sic]; took our dinner along, seen the parade, lot of children. went out to the cemetery, seen Aunt Lizzies grave, flowers on it now, there & went to see Ed. Mavers by Foster Pond; came back for pinic [sic] again, free danceing [sic] all afternoon, Moonlight Orch. This evening at 7:30 they have donkey softball at Pautler Park, that is to be good playing ball on donkeys. Adm. 10 & 25¢; dance at 9 when the ball game is over, trained donkey 13 came from Colorado on at truck. We went to see Perry May awhile, & then went to the free dance given at Oak Grove by Nite Owl Orch. of Red Bud nice crowd. Free oranges & lemonade were given away at the pinic [sic].

Saturday, Oct. 6, 1934

Papa went down to Buehler’s got crushing done. They didn’t crush in Hecker. Clara Wagner came. Rosalia set her hair for tonite, Edwin’s wife birthday dance at Floraville. Leona brought Berti home, she went to Waterloo. We all went to Waterloo, took lard to Schulmiester 10¢ lb., then went to Columbia bought some things at Weilbacher’s cheap sale; talked to Chas. Kern about farm implements; went to see Jac Mavers, then to Red Bud home, bought liver sausage 17¢ & soup beef 12½¢. Mr. & Mrs. Willie Matzenbacher have a little boy. first born; last week. There was a accident at the creamery station yesterday, the guy that works there & Adolph Rittmeyer, cars were damaged somewhat.

Friday, June 6, 1930

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this afternoon and then we all went to Red Bud to Valentine Dehn’s funeral.  It was a pretty large one.  They had such nice flowers.  Uncle Fred and Aunt Mary stayed for lunch.  Mr. Mavers was here trying to sell his horses and machinery & chicks to Papa.  In the evening Papa went over to see Ed. Meng.  And afterwards we all went out to Henry’s.  Papa and Henry went up to Jac. Mavers and got the stuff home what Papa got.  Papa got the 2 horses & 1 colt, buggy, cultivator, 75 chicks, wire, harness, and a few other items.  Mr. Mavers was here this morning but Papa wasn’t at home, he was working at the new school all morning.

Papa & Bertille went to church this morning.  Rosalia is out at Uncle Fred’s.  After church Papa & Bertille went out to Aunt Mary’s for dinner & lunch.  Papa & Rosalia went to the cemetery & from there they went to Jac. Mavers he wanted to sell his horses and farm implements.  Uncle Fred is feeling pretty good today.  He got up this morning and he shaved himself this afternoon.  In the evening we all went home and went to church.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had lots of company.  Uncle Adam & Emil, Willie Birkner’s family, Adam Eckert’s family, Henry Birkner’s family, Bessie Parker, Ino Buehler.

Rosalia & Bertille washed this morning.  Henry was here this afternoon.  Mr. Jake Mavers was here trying to sell Papa his coal oil brooder.  We found 6 eggs today.  It is getting colder.  Looks like snow.
