Went to Belleville, papa got 3 teeth pulled by Dr. Wagner $3.50 was allowed $1 for gold crown on tooth. Rose & Bert went to Red Bud, went to Felcias Roscows got dress pattern, & we got 2 sacks feed from Zipfel. Rose took 6 doz. eggs. 21¢. Dr. Smith of Red Bud, his wife left him Sat., also Krehns fired hired girl. Henry came after wire stretcher, this evening.

Tuesday, Oct. 2, 1934

Papa & Rosalia went out & got a load wheat. Mrs. Rennecker has a boarder Ferd [Fred?] Smith. The St. Augustine Parish are having a euchre, lotto, pinochle; tonight; in the hall. We cooked kettle soap. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, we all went to the euchre, Rosalia had 8 points, she got a glass & plate, the rest of us got nothing had 7 points. Cecilia Coop won attendance prize, pillow cases. Mr. Albert Griffin was fired at the St. Louis Dairy Station here, another guy Smith got on his place. Frank Hilpert’s wedding ann. today.

Sunday, Feb. 25, 1934

We didn’t go to church today; snowing & sleeting all day. George Wagner & Steve Rennecker came over to sign hog papers for the processing tax, $2.23 for Jan. Steve stayed & we played cards, 4 games, he won 3. Monroe Co. C. W. A. are laying men off now till down to 6, stayed working: Osie Neff, Pete Watchel, all them are off, from Hecker, is only Jack Reagan, Hy. Meng, Hy. Braun working & there is Chas. Helfrich, Wilhelms, Leifer & some yet from Round Prairie working the snow plow went down & up, several times, but didn’t help much.

It rained last nite & looks like somor [sic- some more] today. We washed, ironed. Geo. Lorberg was through here selling pickles last Sat., at 50¢ bu. as they come, he has a acre planted & intend to sew ½ acre Sat. yet, him & Rapp’s & Mueths each have a acre, they have a contract with Gauen at Waterloo. Papa went to Red Bud to see Jac. Erle, about the cars insurance, he canceled all but liability & property damage. He sent the check of for the chev. for $10.06. Steve was over awhile, he ain’t going along with Schilling machine this year, Ham has his place, He got fired.
