Sunday, Dec. 24, 1939

Went to mass. Uncle Fred stopped in for awhile; pretty nice this morn. sunshining nice. Miss Ida Heyl of Round Prairie is getting buried this afternoon from Qurenheims Funeral Parlor to Round Prairie Church & cemetery, she died suddenly Thurs. nite; found her dead Fri. morn; she stayed with her brother Abner down on the farm. Henry Spalts have baby girl born Dec. 14, have 2 boys & 1 girl. Bill [Klein] came for supper, we all went to midnite mass at Red Bud, 2nd mass followed. came home went to bed Bill [Klein] stayed all nite.

Friday, Dec. 24, 1937

Nice day. Berneice [sic] got 5 doz. eggs. @ 27 [cents]. Bert [Bertille] baked pies etc, getting ready for Christmas duck & chicken etc.

Thursday, Dec. 24, 1936

Cleaned & fixed the ducks, 7 & 8½ lbs. they weighed. Went to Belleville Rose went to dentist, went to church. Sure a nice day, so warm we have windows & doors open. Robert Laut has his electric put in & has a radio, installed. Slopy [sic] weather & roads. Leo came down this evening, we light the Christmas tree.

Sunday, Dec. 24, 1933

Went to Red Bud took Helfrich’s kids along. It sure did turn cold, this morning. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this afternoon, played pinochle, they had supper here, this evening Brand family came & Santa, Christmas Eve, played cards, etc.

Saturday, Dec. 24, 1932

We went to Red Bud to church this afternoon. It is an awful south wind, we put some of our meat, ribs & backbones in salt water, it is so warm. Mr. & Mrs. Hill both have such severe cold; got doctor, Smith & Eckert. Emmie Eckert has a carbuncle under her arm as big as a hen egg. We got a Christmas Greeting from Mr. & Mrs. Frank Dudenhoeffer. Henry & family came up this evening, stayed all night. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary couldn’t come they both have the flu.

Wednesday, Dec. 24, 1930

Mr. Rhein was here this morning & delivered our victrola.  This afternoon we all went to confession.  This evening Santa Claus came.  Henry & Leona & family were here all night, & Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here till about 10 o’clock.  Papa got a tie, shirt, garters for Christmas.  Rosalia got 2 handkerchiefs, a box powder, perfume, garters, puff, handkerchief, 75¢, scarf.  Bertille got garters, perfume 2 bottles,powder, cat [?], 75¢, scarf.  We played victrola this evening & also 6 handed game of pinochle & Papa & Uncle Fred & Bertille were the winners.
