Cloudy again today. We cleaned chicken house; painted chairs for Marita, had piegeon [sic] for supper. The Christmas card I send to Ed. McDermott at Washington D.C. came back unclaimed, it sure is funny it came back. Klotz’s family & Wagner’s family all got vaccinated for small pox.

Thursday, Dec. 30, 1937

Rained a little today, & Boy the roads, terrible mess. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary wanted to go to Belleville, got as far as Sphalts’s land, turned around, & went home again, couldn’t make it she said. Pierre Laut came, asked for permission to go hunting on our ground. Geo. Wagner butchering today. Rennecker & Laut helping got it from Hy. Armstutz. Sure warm, but cloudy & south wind. The mail carried Schmidt has been going around the last several days, well all week, so far with the buggy & horses; some trip, & some mud. We got Christmas card from Fr. Joe Orlet Mon. Sun starting to shine.

Thursday, Dec. 23, 1937

Went to Belleville church & shopping. Bert [Bertille] went to Renneckers brought his cone boxes back; went up town got card from Elenora Steiger. Looks like we might have rain.

Tuesday, Dec. 24, 1935

Pap & Rosalia went to Red Bud to John Schumacher’s funeral, so many people, the church was crowded; 11 priests with Fr. Stern. Fr. Schumacher & Harbaugh said mass; Fecklenburg sermon. Rose & Berti went out to Blackburn’s School, to see the program; It was pretty good; Alf. May’s boy was Santa. Quite a few people were there. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up, she went to church, he went down to Red Bud. They went home & came back again, stayed in town all nite. Henry & family also came up awhile, got overalls, tablets, & tops etc. had candy, nuts, apples, cookies. Received Christmas card from Duddenhefers.

Tuesday, Dec. 25, 1934

Christmas Day. Went to 5 o clock mass at Waterloo, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed awhile before high mass here at 9 o clock. We went out to Henry’s, had dinner. Walter Reheis also came. Henry had to take the chains of off his car, gave him 2 cigars, then went to Belleville to see Hilda, was coming out by 3:30 again. The roads are terrible, & weather is too, gloomy, hasey [sic] & cloudy, raining. Received a Christmas Greeting from Miss Freund of 906 Rusell Ave. St. Louis yesterday. We didn’t go to the program at the Evangical [sic] Church, because rain.

Friday, Dec. 21, 1934

Leona brought the teacher & pupils of Blackburn School up for the Christmas program at the Hecker School, Rosalia & Berti went to, it was real nice, Stana came too. We went to Belleville this afternoon. Eggs 26¢ today. Received a Christmas greeting from Josie Keller today. Papenberg boy’s got a red fox; hunting season.

Saturday, Dec. 24, 1932

We went to Red Bud to church this afternoon. It is an awful south wind, we put some of our meat, ribs & backbones in salt water, it is so warm. Mr. & Mrs. Hill both have such severe cold; got doctor, Smith & Eckert. Emmie Eckert has a carbuncle under her arm as big as a hen egg. We got a Christmas Greeting from Mr. & Mrs. Frank Dudenhoeffer. Henry & family came up this evening, stayed all night. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary couldn’t come they both have the flu.

Thursday, Dec. 18, 1930

Looks like snow this morning.  It started snowing & kept up all day.  Henry & Leona went to Belleville this morning & left the kids here.  They were back again for dinner.  We baked delicious cookies this morning.  Harold & Virgil Eichenseer were here this evening and brought us a letter for an invitation for a play in St. Augustine’s Hall next Tues. afternoon given by the school children, admission fee says 11¢ in this letter.  We got a Christmas card today from Creses Freund.
