Tuesday, Dec. 24, 1935

Pap & Rosalia went to Red Bud to John Schumacher’s funeral, so many people, the church was crowded; 11 priests with Fr. Stern. Fr. Schumacher & Harbaugh said mass; Fecklenburg sermon. Rose & Berti went out to Blackburn’s School, to see the program; It was pretty good; Alf. May’s boy was Santa. Quite a few people were there. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up, she went to church, he went down to Red Bud. They went home & came back again, stayed in town all nite. Henry & family also came up awhile, got overalls, tablets, & tops etc. had candy, nuts, apples, cookies. Received Christmas card from Duddenhefers.

Monday, Dec. 23, 1935

We washed, ironed. Santa brought the Christmas tree, & decorated it. Papa went to town mailed the Christmas cards. Mr. Burdorf & son butcher of Red Bud was here & bought our Jersey Heifer $40.00, papa also sent him out to Henry’s, but he didn’t sell to him. We got card from Josie, saying she will be out on the 26th in the morning. Wm. Ganley came on business; this afternoon.

Monday, Dec. 24, 1934

Baked bread, put up the tree. We went to Waterloo this afternoon. Henry & family came this evening, Santa brought lot of presents; but he didn’t appear in person, he was at Wagner’s; Rosalia got prayer book, Berti bedroom slippers, pap also; from Henry & Leona.

Monday, Dec. 25, 1933

Went to 5 oclock mass; went out to Henry’s for mutton dinner, played cards. Geodells & Birkners were also there. Santa brought the boys all kind of things. Mamie & Clarence came down, then we went up to see her tree, & then went down to the Evangical [sic] Church, to the program, it was nice, wasn’t near the crowd there like last year. It started in snowing about 6’o clock this evening. Oh Boy & did it snow, everything white, drifts, Oh! a real Christmas Day.

Sunday, Dec. 24, 1933

Went to Red Bud took Helfrich’s kids along. It sure did turn cold, this morning. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this afternoon, played pinochle, they had supper here, this evening Brand family came & Santa, Christmas Eve, played cards, etc.

Thursday, Dec. 24, 1931

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary & all of us went to Belleville. Henry & family & them where all up tonight Santa came. Henry & family stayed all night & left the kids here went to Waterloo church.
