Billies [Willis] 6 yrs. birthday. Henry was up this morn. Raining this morn. & good shower this afternoon. Church pinics [sic] at Red Bud & Paderborn. We went to Red Bud for supper, Bill [Klein] came down from work at Smithton, & went to Paderborn pinic [sic], didn’t win a thing there. Some of the prizes, set of knives & forks to Ray Neff & quilt to Gert Neff, case beer to Cyril Haudrich, spread, Geo Orlet, gas [? – unclear] to Smithton spread to Jac Schoenborn; flour to Fred Watchels & others.

Beautiful day. Kleins got the mule this morn. $125.00 We went to Leo’s; started at 7:30 cutting chop; finished dinner time & sawed hrs. wood this afternoon. Wacthel outfit & Jake & 2 J. Mueth’s, & M. Karban – 8 men altogether. C. Buehler stopped in took Henry’s hide from heifer along to St. Louis. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up this afternoon. Emil & Josie were also cleaning etc; brought tub dishes etc.

We all went out to Henry’s, we washed, pap helped to sew oats. Nice day. Eggs 16¢ here. Wagners & Wacthels are all busy in the garden this evening. We also ironed all the wash; had dinner.

We fried down bacon, sugar cured meat. Steve Rennecker came over & collected his telephone dues, $1.50 including drop tax. Steve cut all of his trees down in front of his house. George Wagner hauled them away for firewood. Papa went over awhile. George & Joe Wactel was also there. The Democrat man from Belleville called out to Hills to get some information to put in the paper today on Hecker Default State Bank, about the wreath that has been placed there; in front of the bank door. Mrs. Hill ordered some cottage cheese from Ben Heyl’s they sell it 15¢ pint. Mrs. George Wagner put a quilt in the frame this morning, Mrs. Rennecker helped, Mrs. Watchel also helped to quilt on it this evening. Jerome Cortner was to see Uncle Fred’s but they wasn’t up here, they where at Chris Buehler’s, who is pretty sick, he didn’t come over here. Wagner told him that they wasn’t up today.
