Sunday, Oct. 22, 1939

Went to mass. Mission Sun. today. Went to Valmeyer to see Demmint, about sow & 10 pigs, sure nice; stopped at Henry’s on way back; baby Joyce sleeps nearly all the time. Sisters were out on Sat. told him [Henry] to send his boys back to school again, things would be different. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came this eve. had supper here. Bill [Klein] came down & we had 5 hand pinochle game. Sure is awful warm.

Sunday, Oct. 24, 1937

Mission. Went to mass. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stopped awhile; beef soup dinner today. They came up this afternoon & Berti [Bertille] went along out picking up hickory nuts, & went to see Uncle Matts woods, were the saw mill had been, where they made railroad ties & etc; big lot of slabs there now yet. Beautiful day; got about 2 gals. nuts; from 3 trees. Mr & Mrs. Dominic Klein & son Ignatius was here looked at the mule, & bought him for $125 going to get him, either Mon. eve or early Tues. morn. Pap was at Wagner’s.

Sunday, Oct. 18, 1936

Mission Sun. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here awhile. Omer brought 2 fish here this afternoon & boy we had fish fry, sure were good, couldn’t eat it all. People from South of Red Bud looked at the heifers. E. Rieso & W. Mueth have birthday dance at Pautlers. The Hecker bank was sold at Public Auction in Waterloo, Court House last Sat. Yesterday Ed. Weber bought the building $500. Articles that was in it & safe Burkhardt of Red Bud got for $35.00 & 80 acres farm. Wolf real estate agent got $1300 & 40 acres Weber $800.

Sunday, Oct. 21, 1934

Mission Sun. We went to 6:30 mass at the Catherdal [sic] at Belleville. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had lunch here then went home. The Ladies of Hecker parish had meeting this afternoon & going to give a turkey supper on Thanksgiving Day. We went out on a trip this afternoon, to Waterloo, down the American Botton, along the river, stopped at Fort Chartres & home through Red Bud. Went out to Henry’s, stoped [sic] in, Walter & Miss Kluber & Adelle were there. We went to Uncle Adam’s & Emil, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went to. Ed & Carrie Brand are here from Alabama, came Fri. afternoon on a surprize to all. Ed is awful stout, just 5 yr. ago sine [sic – since] there were here together. Alice & Lucille are by Kemp’s now, they will leave Thurs.

Sunday, Oct. 22, 1933

Mission Sun. Rally at Cakohia [sic – Cahokia] at Parks Air Port. Bob Rettinghouse got killed on the hard road last nite, he & his daughter where visiting at John Lipperts, neighbor & brother-in-law, on there way, home got he struck by a passing car, from Sparta; the car was damaged a little, they say the road, has blood, on & some of his brains, so it must of been terrible. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here for dinner. We went to Renneckers, Wagners where there too; played cards. Wagner held 1500 trump spades, Bertille had 500 in spades, & Pap had 1500 in clubs, & didn’t see it, some card player’s ha! ha!

Sunday, Oct. 23, 1932

We went to Red Bud to church, took Mrs. Stauenfbiel along. They have euchre on Nov. 3, papa gave $1.00 for donation. Uncle Fred Aunt Mary & Miss Josie Keller & Miss Isabel Kuhn where all here for dinner & supper. We all went out to John Kaltwasser to gather some hickory nuts in his woods, but there wasn’t many there, about ½ bucket full; then from there we went over to Roy Stauenfbiels, but he say, there wasn’t any there either, Gus, was there, so they talked around awhile, then we stopped in at the church place, Frank Birkner & family came there to; the cemetery is plowed up again, the house is all stucco finished outside, & all hardwood floors up & down, plastered walls, new doors, furnace for the basement, the barn is all new boards all around it; everything fixed dandy. Henry & family came up this evening. This afternoon is Mission Rally at the Orphanage at Glen Addi, being Mission Sunday.
