The John Kaltwasser farm was sold this morn. at the quarry, brought $10,000, some price for farms these days; Nic Cortner bought it, 160 acres, with the quarry & all. Telephone meeting this afternoon. Eliza Boll got reelected operator, John Braun was against her. Leo & Isadore were here this evening, he had got a card from Sanitary Milk Producers, that there was to be a meeting held at Paulter’s the same nite as the wedding dance, so they went to Eliza Boll’s & called in to Paulter but there is no milk meeting there that nite, he said.

Wednesday, Nov. 18, 1936

Uncle Fred is 62 yrs. old today & Uncle Joe 53. Today Pap & Rose went out to Henry’s got load oats. We all went out to Uncle Freds, had dinner there, played cards, Jos Keller came out to, for dinner. They all went to Louis Armstutz’s sale at the molasses factory, Kaltwassers estate. Went out to Uncle Freds again, had supper. Buehler’s & Frank & Oscars Birkners family came also, played cards, etc. Beautiful day, getting colder.

Sunday, Jan. 5, 1936

We went to Waterloo church, & then went to Gus Geodelle’s to see Leona, she is very weak, gets nothing to eat, not much; we brought Floyd along with us to. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed awhile. Henry came to get crushing this afternoon. Wilbert Geodelle is having a birthday dance at Pautlers tonite, musci [sic] by Rythm [sic] Kings. John Kaltwasser is being buried this afternoon at Stehfests cemetery, from Belleville; Eugene Ahern of Waterloo will be buried Tues. morn.

Monday, Dec. 30, 1935

We washed, ironed. Papa went to town, mailed New Year cards for Aunt Mary. Joe Watchel’s butchering today. John Kaltwasser was nearly frozen stiff the other day, he is pretty old & lives by himself, didn’t have no fire, nothing to eat. Geo. Wagner came borrowed our scale to weigh some saussage [sic]. Mr. Chas Guebert & son came looked at our mare, but it is to small.

Thursday, April 25, 1935

Papa is fixing fence again, will soon be finished now. The Y.P.L. of Hecker, are giving a play intitled [sic], “Gates to Happiness” tonite at Kammler’s Hall; Adm. 35¢ dancing after play. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, we all went up, but it wasn’t so nice, no pep at all; Characters were: Hy. Spalt, Clarence & Ralph Rausch, Harold Wagner, Floyd Thompson: Carol Papbenberg, Vernice Rausch, Marjorie Rausch, Mrs. Arthur Hepp, Alsace Eckert. The hall was crowded. Irene Reheis, furnished musci [sic]. Rev. Hasto painted the backgrounds, furniture came from N. Athens. Papa took load wheat to Red Bud, 90¢, got sack chic mash. Mrs. Gambach & daughter have a new 1935 model Chev Sedan; today. There were gypsies at J. Kaltwasser’s today, ransacked the place, took coffee & bread.

Saturday, July 1, 1933

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up took the rest of there onions out in there garden; we helped, they sold them to Braun’s got 94¢ for 51½ lbs. New Athens have home coming today. There was a fire at Kaltwasser’s today, Spalts are threshing at Wacthel & Armstutz set there & spark flew out & started the weeds to burn, they got it out with shovels & water, Joe Wacthel got his hand burned a little. It is so awful hot again. John Reagean & family moved in John Hepps house here in town.

Sunday, Oct. 23, 1932

We went to Red Bud to church, took Mrs. Stauenfbiel along. They have euchre on Nov. 3, papa gave $1.00 for donation. Uncle Fred Aunt Mary & Miss Josie Keller & Miss Isabel Kuhn where all here for dinner & supper. We all went out to John Kaltwasser to gather some hickory nuts in his woods, but there wasn’t many there, about ½ bucket full; then from there we went over to Roy Stauenfbiels, but he say, there wasn’t any there either, Gus, was there, so they talked around awhile, then we stopped in at the church place, Frank Birkner & family came there to; the cemetery is plowed up again, the house is all stucco finished outside, & all hardwood floors up & down, plastered walls, new doors, furnace for the basement, the barn is all new boards all around it; everything fixed dandy. Henry & family came up this evening. This afternoon is Mission Rally at the Orphanage at Glen Addi, being Mission Sunday.
