Went to Red Bud, high mass & sermon, for hr. Went to Henry’s butchering, 1 hog. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary helped also, 8 degrees above zero this morn; pretty cold. Emil was over this morn. Mrs. Connor was here on business; wants to trade or sell colt.

Pap went to Belleville to see fellow’s mare & made trade, billy horse for mare & $20 booth; got them at noon. Henry & Rob. came made hay, had dinner & lunch ice cream. Uncle Fred & A. Mary were up, cutting lawn. A man here wanted to clean cisterns $1.50. Lauts had there clean. Eggs 16¢.

Bert washed, Leona & Billy [Willis] came, had dinner here, she helped quilt. Pap went to Con. Myerscough’s & trades 2 grayes [sic] horses, of ours to him for 2 baeys & $32.50 booth; brought them up this afternoon. Some fellows here from Renault, bought corn planter & sulby plow, cultivator for $28.00. Hy. Wiegand was here looking for oats.

Went to Red Bud. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here for dinner, lunch & supper. Rose & Berti went with them to Waterloo this afternoon, to the band concert of 250 muscians [sic], & crowd, they spelled Waterloo in letters, & then played Star’s “Bangled Banner.” We stopped at Henry’s on our way home, & Walter & Hilda were there & pap & Riechmann & Bornppole of Okawville brought the mare & colt out; This evening we all went to Waterloo to Pautler’s pavillion to a free dance. Carle & Schumacher playing & was pretty good. Aggie Doyle youngest daughter of Martin’s was married to Lyle Ratz of Red Bud several weeks ago published once at Tipton; & Tolin & Rahn were married since June 8 they say. Red Bud congregation going to give ice cream social on Aug. 6.

Emil & Henry & Grover were up making hay had lunch & dinner & finished, took 2 loads home. Rain this afternoon, good showers. Miss Isabel Forness of Ruma convent received the name S. Gilberta on July 1. Hy. Stump of Bluff & Laura Matzenbacher of Burksville were married last Sun. afternoon by Rev. Kocheim; attendants were Elmer Korvas & Mildred Matzenbacher her oldest sister. Miss Caroline Emery & boy of Belleville are being married today. Frank Emery’s daughter 2 oldest. Henry came & papa went with him to Okawville; to do trading, & got one $120. mare; & colt, but it is lame, so if it gets alright if he wants it for $30.00 he can keep it, & if not he will take back again.

Wednesday, June 19, 1935

Papa went to Evansville to see Volkmann, about horse trading, brought him along & he looked at the mares, had dinner, then papa took him as far as Red Bud. We went to Belleville this afternoon. Baked bread & cake, pie, cookies this morning; sold 7 springs, @ 15½¢; to the market at Belleville. We made a little girl with a sprinkle can for in front of the house, & painted it. We went out to Henry’s, Emil came & Dan Geodell’s also. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up & we went to Chris Buehlers this evening, brought ½ gal. cherries along, we gave them to Leona.

Henry & family came up 5:30, him & papa went horse trading to Okawville, Red Bud etc; had lunch, dinner & supper. Rain this afternoon & warm. Wagners kids were over. Catholic church pinic [sic] at Dupo, today, we have chances to win $125.00 cash & $30 quilt, 4 times. raffling. Eggs 19¢. Berti bought 1 bar soap & got a chance to win a water set by Mertz store. Rained all nite.

Henry & papa went out horse trading today, Knabs & Belleville & Okawville; didn’t buy so far. The rest of the family stayed here, had dinner & lunch. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were also up this afternoon. Laurence Allard’s oldest son 13 yrs drowned in a pond while boat riding, was buried this morn, at Prairie Du Roch.
