Went to Paderborn mass, went to Leo’s, had dinner & supper. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were there too all day. Bill [Klein] & Bert [Bertille] went to church this afternoon; at Paderborn. There was a bad accident by Log Cabin Frid. morn. early, 1 being killed James Moore & Ray Roscow & Seifert boy are in hospital, not in very good condition, Roscow is unconsicous [sic].

Sunday, May 8, 1938

Mother’s Day. We went to Paderborn mass, then to Leo’s, doctor Eckert was there, since 6 last nite; at 11:30 took her [Rosalia] in an ambulance Dashner’s, to Red Bud hospital were Doc. Pautler brought a baby girl, 8 lbs. & 6 oz. nice big girl, bright, dark eyes, dark hair. Leo & Leona & pap went along down. Henry & boy’s came here had dinner, we went down this afternoon. Leo stayed all nite; Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came here. Bill [Klein] & Bert [Bertille] went to Paderborn May devotion at church. It is also Josie Gregson’s birthday today. KMOX Radio Stars having a dance here at Kammlers tonite.

Good Friday, April 15, 1938

Went to service at 7. & this afternoon from 1:30 stations & sermon at 3 oclock. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up morn. afternoon, working garden. We planted out 16 tomatoe plants. Caught 18 fish out of pond, boy! swell dinner. Berts [Bertille] work shoes came fit fine. $1. from Chicago Mail Or. Seen in Messenger. Fr. J. Orlet & St. Marys Choir, will broadcast Sun. on Messenger hour WJMV. Fr. Joe going to build the church larger & have a tower for bells; were now there outside on brick floor. $25,000 plan. Marriage license of Hy. Bruns 35 & Marcella Whitside 19 were in paper yesterday. Bert [Bertille] baked cake, for Red Bud cake sale tomorrow.

Thursday, March 31, 1938

Went to Leo’s, washed, ironed, cleaned bedrooms etc, they sawed wood this afternoon; we had dinner & supper. Mr. Orlet is out there also; helpers sawing wood were John & Chas. Mueth, Jake Joe Krebs; finished, tomorrow saw Jake’s. Leo & his dad went to requiem high mass at Paderborn church. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary, Emil were here this eve. Walter Pour’s have a baby boy; I guess that makes family 9.

Saturday, March 26, 1938

Leo & Rose [Rosalia] came, we went in with them to Waterloo, & went out to Paderborn church, with Henry & Leona, church was full couldn’t all get in; so many priests. Fr. Joe [Orlet] had the solemn Requiem High Mass; walked to cemetery, Fr. Aydt had sermon; she [Mrs. Orlet/Leo’s mother] has a concrete vault; she was 64 yrs. old. The pallbearers were Hy, Aloys, Dominic, Andy Roth & Ray Herman, John Mueth. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary, pap went to Percy Starr’s sale this afternoon. Levi Sensel stopped in looked at horses. Pap came home with Grosse from Columbia, he bought a plow here for 25 [cents]; but didn’t take it along.

Wednesday, Aug. 12, 1936

Baked bread. Pap & Rose went to Waterloo load wheat; got $1.04. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came & got pap went to Paderborn church pinic [sic], had nice crowd there, we were all up, Henry & family also.

Monday, May 6, 1935

We washed, hung it in the basement, cleaned chick house. Went out to Henry’s this afternoon, finished the front room, put wax floor & furniture, beat the rug etc. Emil was down awhile. Uncle Adam’s birthday 86 yrs old; girls were home yesterday he said. Mr. & Mrs. Gus Geodelle came out, Henry has a sick heifer. Eggs 21¢. Rose took old hens to Eichenseers, got 16¢ for 6 – .08 for 1. Hy Volkmann is pretty sick, has double pneoumiana [sic], have a nurse there now at nights; no one is allowed in, only the ones that take care of him. Tiptown parish is giving euchre tonite. Mrs. Neff is getting buried this morning, from the home of Ben Neff to Paderborn, church & cemetery; that is his mother, also Mrs. Joe Schilling.

Wednesday, May 1, 1935

Schools Public are out today, with pinics [sic]. Papa went on a trip, Red Bud, Waterloo, paid pew rent $10.00, & gave Father the quilt that we made, to donate to the church, Goose Track. Mrs. Donahue was buried this morning Tiptown & Kirsh this afternoon at Red Bud. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up; We went to church. May Devotion tonite; Paderborn Church is giving a euchre this evening. Boy! did it rain, about 1:30, thunder, terrible wind storm, blew some more shingles of the roof; also Fred Eichenseers little house. We cut lawn trimmed everything this morning. Patched this afternoon.
