Good Friday. 28 degrees; warmer again for today. Went to church 7 o clock. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stopped in. Pete Hoffmann of near Waterloo died at Querheim Parlor & Mrs. Glessener, Kroll’s sister, passed away to [sic]. Mr. & Mrs. Farbers were here looked at mare. Bert [Bertille] fixed doz. eggs & 9 for A. [Aunt] Mary’s. Went to Red Bud 3 o clock church. heard Fr. Ore Service on radio. Went to Waterloo to see Pete Hoffmann & Mrs. Glessner, they have 3 people laid out, being awful busy all week. Mr. Hill came collected telephone dues. Bert Thompson & family going to move on Weber Farm & Webers moving to New Athens.

Good Friday, April 15, 1938

Went to service at 7. & this afternoon from 1:30 stations & sermon at 3 oclock. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up morn. afternoon, working garden. We planted out 16 tomatoe plants. Caught 18 fish out of pond, boy! swell dinner. Berts [Bertille] work shoes came fit fine. $1. from Chicago Mail Or. Seen in Messenger. Fr. J. Orlet & St. Marys Choir, will broadcast Sun. on Messenger hour WJMV. Fr. Joe going to build the church larger & have a tower for bells; were now there outside on brick floor. $25,000 plan. Marriage license of Hy. Bruns 35 & Marcella Whitside 19 were in paper yesterday. Bert [Bertille] baked cake, for Red Bud cake sale tomorrow.

Went to services at 8 o clock Red Bud & again at 2 this afternoon; Pretty cold; was 18 last nite. Pap paid Fr. Stern pew rent, flood donation & bake sale donation tomorrow. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came. Bert went along to church with her. Fr. Ratteoman finished it of. Fr. Orlet was there also another priest.

Went to 8 o’clock service at Red Bud; then again at 12 till 3 o’clock, there are Devotions. Felicia Rascow came along up to Hecker, with us yesterday to got to Mrs. Staufenbiel, & went along back to Red Bud with us this morning. Roth of Brickey was buried at Round Praire [sic] cemetery this afternoon. Mr. & Mrs. Leo Kohler of Waterloo have a baby girl born at St. Marys Hospital.

Good Friday. We went to services at Red Bud; brought fish from A. Cowell’s butcher shop; jack salsoms [sic]. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stopped after church awhile; went home. We went to TreOne [?] Devotion from 12 to 3. The rabbit was busy making eggs this evening. Sent Josie a Easter Greeting; to mail in St. Louis; tomorrow.

Good Friday. Stores all closed from 12 to 3. Went to church this morning & then again this afternoon, from 12 to 3. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up this afternoon & came back again this evening for church, Rosalia & Bertille went along this eve. Papa caught fish, & Oh. Boy! fish supper. Nothing much news in the paper. Lester Bruns paid Levi Gregson $75.00 for ¾ acre.

We went to church, Good Friday, everybody has church today. It rained last night & today. Mudd & Eichenseer students are both at home serving mass; yesterday morning. Papa got the mail; seen in the paper that Aunt Lizzie Reheis was surprised Sun. afternoon on her 58th birthday anniversary, by friends from St. Louis. Mr. & Mrs. Frank Dudenhoeffer, Sulaff’s & Turners: all of St. Louis, Clarence Voges, Fred & Peter Reheis & Jake’s family.

Friday, March 25, 1932

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came over this morning he helped to move the hogs at the straw shed & ring them. They stayed in Hecker, nearly all day. We went to Red Bud to church. Bertille helped Aunt Mary scrub. Rosalia & papa went out to Henry’s he helped him, then he brought the mule home. Gus Geodelle’s where there too. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up, tonite for church, then they went to Wm. Birkner’s, Oliver’s birthday, school children where present, playing games. We got 67 chick from our incubators, & out of set 110 eggs.
