Hy. Birkner’s got a second hand Chev. 1930 model at Belleville today, just like Hy. Clem Parker was here on business. George Parker’s got the baby christened Sun. afternoon James Arthur, Arthur Coop & sister, were sponsors. Oscar Birkner had fish fry Sun. evening. There is a free wedding anniversary dance at Brezzy Hill tonite. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this morning, had dinner here, him & papa went to Waterloo, he got a new Chev. 1934 model, $568. from W. Nobbe; black weehls [sic – wheels], green body. Mr. Otto Horn was here wanted to sell suits. A lady here selling household goods & toilet. Uncle Fred got $176.00 for his old car & $105 for horse all in the trade. They went to Red Bud to Buehler’s. Jac Erle came & they got the papers insurance fixed out, a new policy. George Wagner & kids, came over to fly kites in our field. We went to Brezzy tonight, Mr. Maul & Perry May’s Wedding Anniversaries, but poor musci, Fisher Orc; nice crowd. Uncle Fred bought ice cream for lunch, this afternoon.

Cool wind this morn. Sheutte by Waterloo died, the man, that Mrs. Sheutte insane, put poison in there food. A free dance at Donahue’s musci [sic] by Nite Hawks & a free wedding dance in Pautlers Hall, musci [sic] by Moonlighters tonite. This morning about 10:30 Irvin Buehler, 7 yr old son of Chris Buehler, was struck unconsious [sic], while playing with tires on the hard road, in front of Parker’s house, they were all there helping with threshing, the driver of the car, was Frank Schwartz of R.R.1 Belleville. Irvin was brought to Hecker to Dr. Eckert & then the ambulance was called & taken to Belleville hospital, where he is still the same, fractured head & back & wrenched leg. The car nearly hit Cletus to. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary & papa went to Hyde sale in Red Bud, who lives in John Rennecker’s house, bought a few articles. Henry & Leona went to Belleville, left kids here, bought new shoes & dress. this evening took us along, kids stayed here, went to Pautler Pavillion, Kopp’s Wedding dance; pretty large crowd. Donahue’s was nothing some said. Boy! did Walter Reheis feel good!

Went to church, Catheral [sic] Belleville at 5:30 mass. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had dinner with us, spring chicken. Loyd Pabst was here, said they were going to thresh tomorrow. There was a boy 14 yrs. old from Iowa, visiting Ed Rehling’s, was killed instantly, when riding on a byicicle [sic] coming out Rehlings road, onto the hard road, Shloemer Ford Motor man of Waterloo, was coming down the road, & hit him, & upset his car & was hurt somewhat. The Rehling’s were visiting relatives at Waterloo at the time it happened; the first accident on the new hard road. Turner Pinic [sic] in Smithon [sic] today. Mr. Herman Wolf of Red Bud is having a free dance at Oak Grove tonite, Moonlighters playing. We went, & what a crowd, had nice time. Eggs are 9¢, wheat 80¢.

Mr. Rennecker was over, he told us to feed his chickens for him, they went threshing down at Klotz’s. We went to Belleville this afternoon. Went to Donahue’s tonight to Erna Braun’s 18 birthday dance, free Phil Carlis & musci [sic], & a nice crowd. It is also Margaret McDermotts birthday. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary finished threshing at Henry B.

Rob. Mertz is going to put a new roof on the shed binder out at Henry’s today. Summer begins. They oiled to Hecker streets. Cleaned chick house. Henry & family came, kids stayed here had dinner, Bertille rode along with them to Belleville, shopping. We sure had a nice rain, rather windy. There was a man killed on the Columbia hardroad, in automobile accident. Mr. & Mrs. Omar Mertz of Red Bud have a baby boy born June 15. Mrs. Bertha Probst has returned home from the hospital. Miss Marjorie Rausch is in the hospital, was operated for appendix. Beautiful evening after the rain. Had first chicken & kraut slaw dinner.

Papa & Rose went out to Henrys again, had lunch, dinner & lunch. Clifford had borrowed our disc & brought it back yesterday. Mr. Al. Rittmeyer & Miss Alice Mantle were married today at 3:30 in Belleville in Evangical [sic] Church, dance at Eagles Home, Belleville tonight. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this evening & we went to Waterloo, on business to see Mr. Loehr & Hempe Bros; everything is settled now, they received there money from the government. Awful wind today.

There are several farmers cutting wheat in the vicinity at present. A man here to sell kerosene refrigerator’s; from Belleville. George Schilling was here & settled the lumber sawing, papa paid him $45.40 & Jonny Reheis note $10.75, for 6,421 ft. lumber @ 90¢ & 100 ft. Christ & Ivo Buehler stopped in on there way out to the farm, he is going to cut out wheat here this afternoon, bought second hand binder from Eichenseer; now it don’t work, so he won’t cut till tomorrow. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, up awhile, she made a bonnet for me. We went out to Henry’s stopped in awhile, they went to Waterloo, to see Metzger & Nobbe to trade for a new binder; we went to Donahues, but there was no dance, there then went to Waterloo, & papa talked with the implement dealers, also; Mr. & Mrs. Clarence Heberer on there way to Colorado, on a honeymoon trip were met with an accident, & were taken to a hospital in St. Louis. Eggs are 11¢, hogs up to $4.90 that is top price.

Awwful [sic] wind & rain last night. Papa & Rose went to Belleville with load hogs. 3 to Strecks, 2 weighed 355 lbs. at $3.70, & 1 sow, 290 lbs @ $3.00. We washed, ironed beautiful day pop is hauling manure. The umbrella & scissor sharpener was around, Miss Marie Fults, my 2nd yr. school teacher, & Clarence Heberer from Mascoutah were married Sun. morning at the Evangical [sic] church, of Waterloo, by Rev. Kochkeim, the attendants were, Miss Dorothy Werling, a friend, & Miss Luella Fults a sister to the bride. Elaine Kochheim flower girl, Donny Gleiber, nephew of the bride, ring bearer. Clarence Kinchoefer of Decatur a friend as best man, & Clifford Heberer, brother of bridegroom. The Wedding dinner was served at the bride’s parents, Mr. & Mrs. Laf. Fults. They then departed in the afternoon for Denver Colo. for a visit with relatives; then to Boulder to attend summer school; Arriving home about Aug. 1. taking up residence in Mascoutah, where he is employed as teacher in the Public School; Miss Fults was teacher for 11 yrs. in the grade school, in Waterloo. Mr. Heberer is the son of Mrs. Conrad Juenger of Lenzburg. Miss Fults is also soloist for both the Evangical [sic] & Methodist Episcopal Churches, & a member of the Choir.

Papa got crushing done. We went to Belleville this afternoon, got white shoes; coming home by Lipperts our car started in to knock, connecting rod burned out I guess. Hugo Probst pulled us home, to the shed, he is going to get the car Mon. & repair it. Leona brought the boy’s up to stay with papa, we went along with them to Donahue’s free anniversary dance, Keohler’s Orchestra, large crowd, Oak Grove wasn’t much, few cars, popeye didn’t come, they said, Blossom City Boys played. It rained a little & wind. In north St. Louis, it stormed, 7,000 bales cotton was destroyed through fire. In Minnesota, were it was so dry, they had snow several inches.

Rosalia & Berti went to Red Bud church, had 8th grade graduation, during Mass. 4 girls, Catherine May, Evelyn Bendict, Rita Roscow, Mary Iva AuBuchon; all dressed in white, carring [sic] flowers, 2 flower girls. 6 boys, Cletus Helfrich, Ratz, Roscow, Hartmann. Thirtheen [sic] made there solmmen [sic] coummioun [sic] in Hecker, this morning. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stoped [sic] awhile after church, went home, came back this afternoon, went to Red Bud to band convention, 200 muscians [sic], 10 band. Steve Rennecker came over awhile; we walked up to see Mamie, but she had a date with Clem Parker, se we came home again, the 4 h club girls are giving a dance in Kammler’s Hall, Holloywood [sic] Orch. Belleville playing Adm. 25¢.
