Uncle Fred, Aunt Mary & Henry & family where all up butchering. Uncle butchered one here also 215 lbs; they had lunch, dinner, here. Ed. Neff got our Whip. & ground the valves for $2.00 today. “Armistice Day.” Harry Kammler has a dance; tonite. Adm. 25¢ to “Len Kirk & his Missouri Ramblers” playing. Mr. & Mrs. Frank Manier moved there family & household goods to St. Louis, where he is going to start a store. We put fresh sausage & eggs on our sign.

It is awful cold, had ice last night; The Evangical [sic] League have Euchre, pinochle, bluey & dance in Kammlers Hall to nite. Buddy Ettling was here last night, wanted papa to help him bring the heifers up today. Papa went out to Henry’s, Ettling couldn’t bring them because they had to go St. Louis to a funeral, this afternoon. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came & Rosalia & Tillie went to the euchre, Rose got pillow cases; Aunt Mary got plates glass. Rheinhardt furnished musci [sic] for the dance, also 2 Skaers boy’s; it was an awful large crowd, the tables where fill in euchre & pinochle, & they had to get more chairs to play bluey, just crowded & not many prices [sic – prizes]. We washed, papa is fixing corn crib. Ralph Ettling was here last Sat., & papa was there Sun, he bought 3 heifers from him for $36.00. Ettling & his family are going to move to St. Louis, in 3 weeks; going to give his horses to Paul Neff to work, cows to Stoval & hogs to Mo. Rosalia & Bertille went to Mamies, then we all went to the school hall to a dairy show & speaking given by St. Louis Dairy, had Ed Parkers barn pictured. The hallways just crowded, people from Red Bud, Smithon [sic] & all over. Mr. Taylor, & Dr. McCullen where speakers; inspector of milk of health department. Kenneth Kemps birthday, & a bunch went out to celebrate with dance & beer.

Went out to Uncle Freds had dinner there, then left the car stand by church lanes & walked down the hard road to where they are working by Cleveland’s House, we walked up to Henry’s but no one home there, so went back home again, it started in raining. Harry Kammler has a dance tonite musci [sic] furnished by Mac Ocr. [sic] of Red Bud. Ed Neff traded his old car in for a new one, also Joe Wacthel, R. Stauenfbiel. Ed is building a new garage, wrecked his old one, & putting it up modern. Mr. Peter Reheis got the place from Ralph Collier, known as Whiteside farm, sold on forclosure [sic] sale $7500.00. Mrs. Collier & children are in St. Louis. Mr. Jo. Neff 45 yrs. passed away was buried Fri., sick 2 days in hospital. Mrs. Joe Schilling brother, Smithon [sic] Church, Green Mount Cemetery. Mrs. Neff 86 yrs, his mother lives in Old Folds [sic – Folks] Home, Belleville; he married Lavin Buehler, and have 3 children, all living on farm near Smithon [sic].

Papa sowed wheat, Rosalia got crushing done. Hy. Meng got our mule, & worked him. We went to Red Bud to Waterloo, got glass put in chev; seen where 2 cars, that smashed this morn, by Donahue’s on R. 3, one came from St. Louis, that was Connor’s from Prairie Du Rocher, he was out on an all nite party, & was sleeping they say went the accident happened, at 6 o clock this morn, the other car was going to E. St. Louis. 7 persons where injured, 6 broken legs & in Red Bud Hospital, the cars look asight, all smashaed, total wreck, Nobbe has the cars. There is an all nite dance at Oak Groves & 20 Wedding Anniversary dance at Brezzy Hill, Mr. & Mrs. Wm. Crook; musci [sic] by Moonlighters.

Eddler from St. Louis was here to see Fred Birkner on business; he went out to see him they where up this afternoon, had supper here. We went to Brezzy Hill to dance, Moonlighter’s played, had a good time. ladies free & also chicken soup, it was hot! Martin Doyles had a shooting match, but not may people there, didn’t raffle a one they say. A negro camp team played Hecker, 1 bear cats; 6 to 7 favor Hecker.

Schools start today, Miss Burgess teaches Blackburn. It is so foggy this morn. Mat Crowe of St. Louis the policeman got his collar bone broken & skull fractured Sat, in a accident. We washed. We all went out to Aunt Mary’s helped pick peaches, canned; 14 qts; had lunch. They where up here this morn, got 1 doz. cans 75¢. George Boll was here. Christ Buehler’s, not got a sign put up, typhoid fever, children can’t go to school, & they can’t let no one in the house. We dug potatoes this eve.

We went to Red Bud. The Evangicals [sic] have pinic [sic] & dance this eve, in Maniers Park. We went up to the pinic [sic] after supper, went to the dance; Koehler’s Orchestra. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where all afternoon. A lady stopped & got 3 doz. eggs 13¢. The St. Louis bunch, was out that is Jake & Irvin & there friends & there was another crazy bunch there, they wouldn’t let them on the dance floor. Adm. 25¢. The quilt was won by St. Louis party.

Jung was here & paid his debts. A lady around selling vanilla, 3 bottles $1.00, we sent her of [sic – off]. Uncle Joe was here paid Rosalia for threshing $1.50. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came & we went to Wm. Gregson’s sale, didn’t buy anything; big sale. Ralph Collier was to have his property sold, to but it wasn’t today, Uncle Pete is going to forclose [sic] the mortage [sic – mortgage]. Ralph’s wife is in St. Louis, she is suing him for divorce, it comes of in Sept. court.

Papa took Rosalia as far as the hills & Henry met her there. Canned 2 qts greengages. Papa & Rob culling manure. Mr. Leo Wittenauer & Miss Katherine Daley of St. Louis where married there last Wed. Aug. 2. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up, she brought some more greengages, so now we have 13 qts; they where here for lunch. Papa went down to Geo. Lorberg’s sale with Osie Neff; he sold dairy cows, 3 of them, higest [sic] $55 the rest where bought back, & Bruns bought engine, Hinkel crusher & belt; it was a very large crowd, papa said. Mr. Ed Schinder was here, started cutting the hay for second time. Aunt Mary helped to cut Roberts shirt out, & sewed it.
