Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this afternoon, Berti went along to E. St. Louis; they had supper here. Mr. Joe Schilling came, told us that Mrs. Sam Schilling, nee Josie Brand of Dalgreen died will be buried Thurs. morning at 9 o’clock; she was 68 yrs. old; The last one out of Andrew Brand’s family. Rob. Laut got sack hay; 15¢.

There is telephone general election this afternoon, we heard, Mrs. Dueker has an application in for the board, & 2 others, but old officers & Liz Boll were reelected. There is a sale at the Public School, old chairs & benches, school desks, piano Wm. Birkner got for $2.25 to make butchering table. Rob Laut got hay. Mr. & Mrs. Steve Rennecker, Mr. & Mrs. Joe Watchel & son & Mr. & Mrs. Rob. Laut & son, were visiting here this evening, the men enjoyed in a solo game & ladies pinochle; what a time. Mrs. Watchel held 1500 trumps in diamonds. Miss Edith Klinckhadt is employed as wash maid at Roy Staufenbiel. All getting along O.K.

Uncle Fred went home; Mrs. Rennecker & Mrs. Robert Laut were helping to quilt this afternoon, had supper, also Katie Klotz dropped in, waiting for Arlene. Papa went to Hill’s; on business about selling land. Mr. Oscar Bibler died last Sun. evening at the Red Bud hospital. Mrs. Emma Bickechaupt nee Vogel died Tues. 34 yrs. was buried Thurs. at Burksville; been married since 1931. Our cousin Matthias Crowe of St. Louis, Sun. morning, Thom. brother, died, was buried Wed. morning 60 yrs; ailing since he was hurt in a accident in 1933, was formerly a policeman there, he leave his wife & son Dr. Matt & daughter Viola, & 2 sisters & 1 brother Tom policeman at Waterloo.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had breakfast & dinner here. they & papa went to E. St. Louis. Mr. Robert Laut came got sack alalfa [sic] hay. Osie Neff came asked about cutting a tree down at his road. H. M. Hill here gathering up news; wanted to buy ground along the road by his house, no bargains made yet; it is for parking space. It is awful cloudy; we baked bread, put the Snowball quilt in the frame. We all ate supper, played cards. Starting in to rain.

Cleaned front room. Rose baked oatmeal cookies. Henry & Leona went to Belleville left Billy [Willis] here. Eggs 24¢ here. Mr. Eugene Metzger 34 of Floraville shot & killed himself at the home of his sister Mrs. Freida Gerhard, 2 miles south of Floraville; funeral to be held Sat. afternoon, from Millstadt chapel to Floraville Cemetery; he wasn’t married, was sickly & unemployed in St. Louis for 2 yrs. The streets are awful icey [sic] at present; cars pass with chains, several big trucks were stuck up at Belleville Henry had said. Hecker people were shopping there today, Weigands, Klotz’s, Watchels, Lauts etc. The children of the Catholic School is having there Christmas program tonight at the hall, everybody invited Adm. 10¢. Mr. George Hepp celebrated his 101 yr. birthday last Friday, but is confined to his bed, suffering from a stroke recently. Mr. Henry Kessler left for Birmingham Ala. were he will spent Christmas with his sons there. The paper says more snow. & 20 degrees tonight.

We took sausage etc. to Waterloo, sold some this morning; prices from 15 to 20¢ lb., on different things. We washed, sugar cured hams, this afternoon, nasty rainy day & Boy! rain tonite & colder I guess. Man here taking up senses [sic – census] of children that is of school age, none here. The big wedding of Anna Marie Parker, oldest daughter of Ed L. Parker, most prominet [sic] chicken raiser & trustee of church, & dairy famer near of Hecker, & Mr. Clyde William Pautler of Evansville, oldest son of Phil Pautler, dairy man, he drives Pevely Dairy truck to St. Louis, were married at 9 o’clock, nuptial high mass, by Fr. Aydt, Harbaugh & Schumacher, as cousins & Fr. Tecklenburg of Evansville; bride dressed in white with veil, marched in on bride’s fathers arm, carring [sic] roses. Mr. Paul Parker as groomsmen & Miss Dorthy Pautler bridesmaid dressed with nile green crepe, & Miss Agnes Parker, matron of honor, in pink, all carrying flowers. Mr. Donald Parker, ring beared & Alice Schumacher flower girl; wedding dance in Daabs Club House to written invited guests; Mrs. Ed Schneider & Mrs. Robert Laut, cooks.

Bernice Wagner got ½ dozen eggs. Pierre Laut’s birthday. Papa went to Red Bud to get hog feed, Zipfel wasn’t there, he didn’t get none. Papa went out to Fleckenstein’s got piece iron for binder. Papa & Rosalia got load butchering wood. Sure is warm today. We cleaned chicken house. Rose & Berti went to Dr. Isselhardt this afternoon; Rose got 1 pulled; wisdom tooth; Berti got 3 tempoary [sic] filling. We went out to Uncle Fred’s this evening played pinochle, Rose had 1500 trump clubs; had cake. The Election yesterday went Democratic all over the states; Monroe Co. has all repbulician [sic] Offics in but one Al. Gaven. Democrats in state won 2 to 1. Mr. Zipfel brought 2 sacks feed this evening. Weather is beautiful.

We planted trees & rose bushes. It rained last night & again this afternoon & evening. Papa took Chev. to Probst got oil changed 24827 mi. & gas & tail light fixed. We went to the euchre this evening; didn’t win, had 7 points all of us. Lee Gregson got attendance prize $1.00. Lizzie Boll was first in bluey, & Mrs. Jatho in Euchre, not a very large crowd, 10 tables euchre. Mr. & Mrs. George Boll brought there butter beans & eggs here for Mehrmann, Laut’s or Wagner’s weren’t at home. Eggs 22¢ today.

Papa & Rose put roofing on the barn, nice cool this morn. Pierre Laut is sick, tonsil’s, has 104 fever. A man here wanted to see Uncle Fred, wanted a drill; but it is already sold. Peaches at Waterloo are selling at $1.65 -75 a bu. by Al. Heyl’s; all $2. & 35 around here. Mr. James Crowe son of the late police men[,] James Crowe, was married Tues. morning to Miss Flora Wielbacher of Columbia, & at that parish, he was formerly of Waterloo, but now of Columbia were he is employed as mechanic there in garage. The New Athens & Hecker hard road route, 156 is now opened. Miss Mildred Rist 15 yr. old daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Joh Rist was operated for appendix; last Friday in Red Bud Hospital. Miss Elva Knapp, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Henry Knapp was honored with a shower, given by & Misses Edna & Lavina Geodelle, she will become the bride to Mr. Harold Kloft of East St. Louis, the marriage to take place early in Sept. Last Mon. morning Bill Donahue of Midway Inn on Route 3, was awakened by a barking dog, on investigating found that his 25 half grown turkeys had disappeared, from there roosting place, he found 19 doped [sic – dropped] in a cornfield nearby.

Hauled water out for pigs. J. Wittenauers selling pickles in town $1.50 bus. Mrs. Scheinder $1.25. Clevelands $1.40. Jake Reheis he got $2.00. John Reheis sell there’s in Red Bud. People stopped bought 5 roosters 10½ lbs. @ 18¢; about 2 lbs. apiece. A man here selling apples 75¢ bu. George Wagner’s family were here a little while. The settlement of Pete Reheis & Fritsche was in the paper for the last time, will be on July 28 at Belleville Court House; he foreclose him. The assesed [sic] valuation was in the Times; we are the highest in Hecker & around. Joe Watchel & Robert Laut dug a 2o ft. well on Watchel lot.
