We had chicken soup for dinner. Rosalia & Bertille went to Red Bud to the Wedding high mass at 9’o clock, the couple was from Valeymer [sic], & also priest, the bride wore white dress & veil & carried white roses, the bridesmaid wore blue dress & ribbon & carried yellow roses. Frank Geshwender & Mildred Becthlofft are being married in Hecker with a wedding dance in the hall tonight. We are invited to Chas. Hellfrich’s to a birthday party tonite, Mrs. Helfrich’s & Mrs. Ed. Krehrer birthday’s; we all went down there, all the Birkner’s, & Jeff Bell furnished musci [sic], an a crowd & fun. Oh! Boy; cake, beer, wine were served, Hecker, Paderborn, Waterloo, Red Bud, St. Louis, people where all there. They said the wedding dance in the hall wasn’t much, Irene Reheis Orchestra of Belleville played; not crowded at all. Joe Griffin was best man, & her sister & best girl friend & maid of honor. The bride had white dress & veil, & others green, & coral pink; they had a white cloth laid all the way to the alter to walk on; the bride was taken to the coumion [sic – communion] railing by her father, & the girls followed & Frank & the boys came in the side door, everything up to the minute, 4 priests.

Miss Pinkel was buried at Waterloo this morning. We have 22 little chicks from 2 hens, but them in the basement. Jake Helfrich’s the carpenter at Belleville have a little boy.
Monday, Jan. 18, 1932
Wash day & a nice one. Rennecker’s butchering. We fryed [sic] some liver saussage [sic] in, because it is so warm. Levi Gregson got a jersey cow from Ed. Meng this morn. We went out to Henry’s got our hair cut, papa went up to the woods, Neff’s are making wood up there on halves [?]. Oliver Birkner came here & said we should call Aunt Mary & tell her Josie Keller came along out with Willie this eve, & they should get her. So Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came here first then went there to get her. There was a dance at Chas. Helfrich’s last night. Lawrence Matthews & Pearl Geodelle where published for the first time Sun. they will be married Feb. 3 at Waterloo, dance in evening at Foster Pond.

We sure did have some rain last night. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary was here for lunch this afternoon then her, & Bertille went over to Ed. Meng’s, took them some flower, & brought some of there’s back. Mrs. Rennecker canned 41 qts. of cherries, she still has a few on the tree yet. Papa is setting posts today. Jac. Helfrich & his wife where injured in an automobile accident in Belleville the other day. Mr. Laut & Stuart where talking to Papa in the field this afternoon, Mr. Hill & Meng also. Mr. Klinkhardt from St. Louis is out visiting in Hecker by Mrs. Pour. Mr. Hill & him & others where playing pinoche at Griffins this morning & this afternoon. Her is leaving with bus this evening.

They gave beautiful prizes, Bessie Parker got the silk pillow with a slip in candy, Clarance [Clarence] Wittenauer got a bottle perfume, & many others got prizes at the show. We went tonight again they raffled 2 blankets, Levi Gregson, & Hilda Neff were the winners. They also sold candy, & Erma Hepp got the silk spread, Nick Helfrich, the silk hose, & many others, Rosalia got a teaspoon. They sure do draw the crowd, there play tonight was Kitty’s Statue. They sold out on the candy, & there was a blanket left that no one called for, so he raffled that one & Eugene Bruns winner. Rosalia & Bertille went to church this morning. We washed, ironed, patched, baked bread today. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary come this afternoon to work at there place, they where here for lunch & supper, then they went us, to the show. We were by Mrs. Rennecker & got some flowers.

We all went to Belleville this morning & sold 16 doz. eggs for .35¢, $5.60. Papa went in the woods this afternoon & also stopped in at Henry’s & brought the thread in for her, what we brought along from Belleville. Rosalia is fixing up the doll & stuffed it. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came here this evening & then we all went up in the School Hall & there Oh! what a time, it was a dance. Isadore Helfrich went home & got his accordion & then Uncle Fred Roy Staufenbiel furnished music. There were a few outsiders there. Papa bought a cake. Uncle Fred got 2 cakes. The dance was over about 11 o’clock.

Bertille was up town & got the papers this morning. Rosalia went out to Henry’s this afternoon. Albert Monike was engaged last week at the Hecker State bank giving it a new coat of paint. Ed. Weber & the Braun’s from Red Bud that owned a rock crusher down at the Prairie Du Long Creek, Weber bought out the Braun’s & has taken Nick Helfrich with him for a partner.

Bertille went to church this morning. It rained last night & today too. Bertille send an order to Chicago Mail Order this morning for Papa & Rosalia’s shoes. $6.29. I seen in the paper that Mrs. Jake Helfrich of Belleville is in St. Elizabeth’s Hospital. Henry Kern & family moved into Henry Braun’s place on Goose Alley this week. George Reheis hurt his wrist with the hatchet while out carpeting, he now carries his arm in a sling. It is getting awful cold again.

Today is Uncle Pete Reheis birthday. Mr. Hill has a few men working on a sewer, they are going to dig a new sewer on South Main Street. Henry & Emil were here this afternoon, they and Papa went to Sitchefest to get a drill. Henry bought it for $2.00. He broke his old one that he had, so he got this one. Henry has about 20 acres of wheat sewed now. A St. Louis Baseball team played the Hecker team here Sunday. Hecker won 3 to 6. Last Wednesday they got Delbert Meuth from the hospital in St. Louis. Rosalia & Bertille went up to Mamie Eichenseer and then all of us & Angela went to the meeting in the new school hall. After the meeting was over, Father said to take the chairs to one side and then we could dance. So we did. Isadore Helfrich & Edgar Wittenauer furnished music with the accordion & we also had the victrola music to dance on. We came home at 15:11.
