Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this afternoon. Rose & her went over to Mrs. Stauenfbiels. Hy. Armstutz & George Wagner came over got a hog 200 lbs. this morning, George butchered today, pretty nice day, got warmer.

Rose & Bert went up to mass, funeral of Mr. Berg. Koch undertaker. It wasn’t so very large, few neighbors, & relatives. Pallbearears [sic] were Willie Ganley & Reagen, Huber McDermott, Tom Havey, Abrose Doyle, Joe Kunkel. Fr. made a very nice sermon, the body was viewed in back church. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this afternoon & we all went to Belleville to Mr. John Birkner’s funeral, Uncles step brother, at the home of John Breutigam’s, & the most beautiful flowers & so many, they had. Gardener had charge, & Rev. Pessel, the service, nephews pallbearers, Armstuz’s, Birkners & Hepp’s; It was pretty large. Cold & snowing this afternoon. Rosalia took Aunt Mary over to Mrs. Staufenbeils try her dress, see if he fits all right. Eggs 14¢ Mertz’s. Rose Pour & Mamie came after we were in bed, Mrs. Pour wanted hatching eggs, but we haven’t none this year, no roosters. Adam Eckert has chicken pox; has pretty much fever.

Went to church, rain & snowed all day; stayed at home. Angela Eichenseer’s 19 birthday. Stauefenbiel’s 2 kids got chicken pox.
Tuesday, Feb. 13, 1934
We washed, ironed, nice day, little windy. Shrove Tues. today, Josie Keller’s birthday, 44 yrs. old. Mrs. Stauenfbiel is moving, Zita’s & Felicia’s furniture, storing in by Hy. Rausch; so Mr. & Mrs. Hy. Volkman will move in part of her house, at present. The Men of Augustine’s Parish will give a Pinochle & Euchre tonite in school hall. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came then Rose & Bert rode along up to the euchre, & Oh! my what a crowd; 36 tables euchre, alone, without sleepers, & pinochle. Attendance prize $1.50 worth of different articles, all 10¢ each, was won by Lee Howery. Quilt was raffled to Herbert Schmidt Red Bud, so many people from all over, Ruma Myerscough’s, Evansville, Waterloo, Red Bud, Smithon [sic], & all different places. We weren’t lucky, Uncle got a bucket, & Aunt got dougnuts [sic] : dish what she she took there; several nice prizes. Miss Keller won 2 prize 1 left them here for next euchre. Dances at quite a few places.
Wednesday, Feb. 7, 1934
Papa went up in the woods this afternoon, we went out to Henry’s. Pierre Laut was here & brought 1 lb. cheese what Mrs. Talbot left for them for us, he came little after 4 o clock, he had told us he was coming at 10 o clock. Mrs. Staufenbiel was here on business. Berti took 6 doz. eggs to Mertz store for the first time got 15¢ doz. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came got there cheese, she Rose & Bert went over to see Mrs. Staufenbiel, she wanted to rent a room from Uncle Fred to put Zita & Felicia’s fine furniture in & wanted to rent her 2 rooms out to Henry Volkman & wife, the fellow that bought the Rausch Palce, bought Mrs. Volkman out all but 1 doz. chickens. Uncle Fred won’t rent his room for that neither.
Sunday, Feb. 4, 1934
Went to Red Bud, had throat blessing after mass. Fr. Stern gave the children a good lecture about cursing. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up, & went home again. Conrad Myerscough & sons stoped [sic] and looked at the mule. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this evening, she & Bertie went over to see Minnie Staufenbiel; then came back, played pinochle. Levi Ganley has a diferent car.
Saturday, Feb. 3, 1934
Papa went out in the woods. Mr. Wm. Vogt was here to see papa about the heifers. Kunkleman was here, wanted to rent a road through our field, down by there place. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up for throat blessing at 3 o clock, she took dress goods to Mrs. Staufenbiel for her to sew, a dress for 25¢.

Went to Red Bud, took Helfrich’s along. We gave Miss Siebold a glass plate for euchre prize; for Tues. evening. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came; & Josie Keller awhile, then she left went to Ben Heyl’s, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went across the street & had dinner, then came over in the afternoon. Aunt Mary, Rose & Bert went to Mrs. Stauenfbiel & Zita’s & got 2 dress patterns, then we went up to Lizzie Boll’s awhile ordered cooked cheese from Talbots on the Floraville line, 5 lbs. Josie wants to take 3 with here, & we take 1 lb. & Aunt Mary 1 lb. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had supper here. It is awful windy, & cold, freezing right along. Yesterday we could go out side with out a coat, & today just opposite.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had dinner & supper here; this evening we all went down to Levi Gregson’s; had social conversation, looked at picture, played musci [sic], had cookies & apples. Henry was up & him & papa went to the public school took the Farm Bureau Meeting & got there government wheat checks, papa’s was from Pabst $5.06, & Henry’s $22.58; Hughes & Kolmer spoke about the hog & corn, question Mr. Vogt came to see Uncle Fred about renting his place, but it isn’t for rent. Minnie Staufenbiel came to see Aunt Mary, wrote a letter to John Hempe today. Lauts got election washer. Walter Hecke moved to Waterloo last Sun. Alvin [Irvin – ed. correction] Albrecth nee Bertha Muenth have a little baby boy, called it James; now have 4 children.

Went out to Uncle Freds had dinner there, then left the car stand by church lanes & walked down the hard road to where they are working by Cleveland’s House, we walked up to Henry’s but no one home there, so went back home again, it started in raining. Harry Kammler has a dance tonite musci [sic] furnished by Mac Ocr. [sic] of Red Bud. Ed Neff traded his old car in for a new one, also Joe Wacthel, R. Stauenfbiel. Ed is building a new garage, wrecked his old one, & putting it up modern. Mr. Peter Reheis got the place from Ralph Collier, known as Whiteside farm, sold on forclosure [sic] sale $7500.00. Mrs. Collier & children are in St. Louis. Mr. Jo. Neff 45 yrs. passed away was buried Fri., sick 2 days in hospital. Mrs. Joe Schilling brother, Smithon [sic] Church, Green Mount Cemetery. Mrs. Neff 86 yrs, his mother lives in Old Folds [sic – Folks] Home, Belleville; he married Lavin Buehler, and have 3 children, all living on farm near Smithon [sic].
