We washed, nice cool. Ronnenberg’s moving today. Mrs. Jake Staufenbiel nee Prediger of St. Louis died Fri. night, funeral Tues. morning. We all put in a free guess to how many strokes it would take to bust an inner tube yesterday. Berti guessed 1400. Henry came & papa went along, looking at horses. Wm. Probst, Nic Schaefer, at Ames, & etc., he had lunch here. Rose finished my dress today. The directors & Henry are to meet at the Blackburn’s school tonite- see about school.

Chas. Wagner’s threshing now. George Emery went on Cliffords place today, he got hurt yesterday, fell from the wagon. Nice an cool this morning. Wm. Wiegand Jr. while going home from threshing, one day nite last week, was hit by John Schaefer of Waterloo, Wiegand had no lights on his wagon, they didn’t notice him, smashed in to him, wagon broke all to pieces, frame & all, he is going to get a new one, & have a reflector put on it now. He wasn’t hurt. Vic Braun came & asked if Klotz could drive through this way over to Mengs; but he came through the alley any way.

It is in the Waterloo paper that infant son of Mr. John Eshmann Jr. nee Schaefer died on May 19 aged 2 mos. 13 das. Mr. & Mrs. Frank Hoffman nee Bozzay have a little baby girl born May 16 Wed; at there home near Tiptown. Alias Siedle have a girl born last Fri. 18 May. Twenty years ago eggs were quoted at 17½¢, wheat 90¢ & corn 82¢. Miss Ruth Collier who is attending school in St. Louis spent the weekend with her parents in Waterloo, Mr. & Mrs. Ralph Collier. Ed. Wittenauer purchased the home place were he lives from the late Margaret Wittenauer estate heirs, for $3600.00. Henry Acker purchased the old Acker farm last week & is now liming it. Hecker baseball team won last Sun at Floraville 11 to 4 next Sun play New Athens here. Elmer Kammler & local barber went to Hoyleton Ill. to cut the orphan children’s hair. The quilt that was raffled at the childrens program, Thurs. nite was won by Cecelia Pour; store clerk; at Eichenseers. We went to Donahue’s free dance, musci [sic] by Blossom City boys; Henry had dinner & lunch here, he cut his hay & weeds here.

We washed, ironed, patched. Nic Schaefer came, papa had to sign a paper for him again that he bought hogs from him, his paper’s came back. Henry came went to the meeting in the School house, & had the slight error corrected on the contract. He borrowed $18.00 & went down to Red Bud to Ed Pautler & paid his oil & gas bill. The five men had pratice [sic] about hr. today again. Rose went to Hecker with 18 doz. eggs. It is warmer again today. Eggs 15¢.

Papa went to Henry’s, then went to Waterloo to the hog meeting, to get finished with that today, we washed. Mrs. Rhennecker has the quilt in there church pinic [sic]. We have 9 pigs born today, it was so cold, they started to get stiff, we called Mr. Rennecker over, & he got them out & brought in the house, warmed up. Mr. Nic Schaefer was here, got papa to sign his paper, that he bought 4 pigs from him on Dec. 5, 1933. Rosalia sewed Floyd a shirt.

Papa went out to Nic Shaefer’s, took him long up to Henry’s, looked at the hog, traded to him for 4 pigs. Mr. Schaefer came this afternoon & pap & him went out & got him. Henry took the sausage to Waterloo, Mrs. Cleveland, stayed there with the boy’s, cause Willis has a cold. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up, we quilted, & Uncle Fred clean garden; we baked cookies this morn, hauled water in the cistern from Uncle well. Pap went to see Greenever’s clocking corn on Hepp’s land, they sell it at 35¢ bu. Ad. Rittmeyer intened [sic] buying from him. The Eliza. Ganley heirs are selling the place on Jan. 6, public.

Papa & Rosalia brought the boys out & took Bertille along to Waterloo to church. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here awhile, then went to Nic Schaefers, Mrs. birthday had a party. Harry Kammler has a dance to, music by Koehler’s Orch.

Scheinder is still puting [sic] up hay. Papa is working corn ground. Clarence Wittenauer & Wilfred Eichenseers where here talk business on ball ground, he took it & brought $12 so far, has $3 more to make, Clarence had asked all the business places in town, but couldn’t get any more & that together. Arthur Schaefer planted corn for us today for 50¢ & had lunch here. Papa was out to see him this morning about it. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this afternoon, we helped them pick & stone cherries. Uncle Fred used the mule over there this afternoon. Louis Reifschender was here, looked at the mule. eggs are only 7¢ at Eichenseers today.

Jonny Krehre’s [sic- Kreher] had a dance last night, celebrating Authur [sic] Schaefer’s birthday which was yesterday & Mrs. John Krehers last Mon; we have no invititation [sic]. Mr. George Boll & Karl where here got a fat hog, to butcher today; it weighed 242 lbs. & $3.50, $8.45 all cash. Papa went to Red Bud & bought lumber for corn crib, & coal 4 bus. 2@17½¢. & dried skim milk. Rosalia & Bert went out to Henry’s got some oats & helped in the garden. Mr. & Mrs. Louis Goessling of Waterloo have a little baby girl, they just have a pair. Omer Schilling has a birthday dance advertised, for Apr. 29 Sat. at Oak Grove. There was a diregible [sic] flew over this morning right low. The other day there was an airplane landed near Valeymeyer [sic] on Schaefer’s farm, & burned up. completely, 4 persons all from Arksasas [sic – Arkansas], the remains where taken to Wagner & Herman funerl [sic] home. Miss Alberta Heyl, Albert’s daughter is switch board operator in Waterloo now, taking the place of Miss Marie Gentsh who is taking the place of Ruth Olendorph, who recently on Easter Sun. got married to Morris Binder also working at the switch board. A Sign was put up in West end Hecker today saying “Road Closed.” It rained all night.

We are smoking our summer saussage [sic] again. It is awful windy today. We fixed on our machines, put the new license on. Henry brought a load of corn up. Mr. & Mrs. Louis & Bill Reisfchender of Waterloo where here & looked at our mules; eggs are 10¢ today. the Salvation Army men, where going around begging & playing musci [sic], I don’t think they got very much. We went to Aunt Marys birthday, 56 yrs. old. dancing & singing where the main features, cake & doughnuts where served to the following people, Mr. & Mrs. Ed. Parker & family, Mr. & Mrs. Frank, Henry, Willie, Oscar, Birkner’s & family, Mr. & Mrs. Louis Birkner, Mr. & Mrs. Louis Armstutz; Mr. & Mrs. Henry Brand & family, Adam Eckerts family, Schaefers, Krehres, Papenbergs, Parkers, Robert Probst, Jerome, Hillsheim, Wilfred & Leo Cortner, Loraine & Edwin Neff, Clem Parker, Mr. & Mrs. Ignatz Neff. Oliver Kuehn. It started in raining & wind got to the north, & it sure did get cold. Philip Meuth got the priest out home, some one must be sick. Bill Haudrich of Red Bud had a little baby last Thurs. Jan. 19. Emil Haudrich & Elizabeth Buss where baptism sponsors. It is a little boy. Mr. Ferd. Vogt & Miss Mary Kroll of Hecker, graduated nurse & daughter of Mrs. Agnes Kroll where married Mon. morning at 6’o clock mass, they will make there future home in Waterloo.
