We baked bread. Papa & Rosalia went to Belleville took chickens & eggs along, eggs 8¢ chickens 14¢. Papa went out to Uncle Fred’s, with a horse trader Baur of Belleville, made no trade though. Papa & Rosalia went to Waterloo load of wheat, it is 73¢ today. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came picked & stoned the rest of the cherries today. Bertille helped & had lunch there. Mr. & Mrs. Jim Beese, Doris Breutigam & Jero Collins, a grand nephew to Uncle Fred stoped [sic] short while with them, he came from California, stay awhile to visit relatives around here in this country, he hitch hiked it here to Belleville. Seen in the paper, Louis Goessling & family moved from Waterloo to Nashville Ill, where he has a position working on a road. It was in the Belleville paper that Alivra Jatho & Leslie Siebert to wed Sat. afternoon 2:30, & Clemens Mudds & Estella Miller where married at 7, o clock mass at the cathedral; both of New Athens, Ill.

We went to Red Bud to 6 o clock mass. The water is still high at the Round Prairie creek yet. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where heres then they went to Belleville & we went down to Ratz’s, at Red Bud, to Prairie du Rocher, to McBride, the trader there; then to Laurent & looked at his house; then drove to Evansville looked at high water. The bell tolled yesterday morning for Wm. Laut, & he will be buried tomorrow afternoon. Miss Elnore Volkman & Wunderlich where married at Evansville church last Tues. It rained this afternoon.

We are baking bread, cleaning for tomorrow is a holiday. Henry is 29 yrs. old. & also 5 wedding anniversary. We been planting corn, water mellons [sic], pumpkins. It rained last night & this morning heavy. We went to Waterloo, to church, got our battery from Horns took the other one down to Bill’s, but nobody at home there. We planted out 100 sweet potatoe [sic] plants for 25¢, got them at Connor’s; we didn’t get to the birthday the roads are to bad. Miss Irene Reheis delightfully entertained at surprize misscellaneous [sic] Shower in honor of bride-to-be, Wilma Reheis & Hugo Probst to be married June 7th; singing & dancing were the featured diversions of the evening; the bride to be received many beautiful gifts, the attendants at the wedding will be Miss Irene Reheis, & a cousin & Robert Probst brother to groom.

Papa & Rosalia went in to Belleville twice this morning with hogs, took 4 to Streck Bros. 1,025 lbs. & $4.10 brought a cotton mattress along for Henry for $2.25. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came over to help load the hogs up, was here for lunch; we baked bread, cookie, cake. Papa bought himself a straw hat for 25¢ this afternoon from Eichenseer; we got free today a toilet bowl idolizer, to remove all odors. It is in the paper that Louis Petrie Sr. died last Mon, had a stroke was buried yesterday afternoon. Vivian Geodelle daughter of Al Geodelle & Mr. George Stumpf of Belleville where married quitely last Sat. May 6. at the Evangical [sic] Church; the attendants where Miss Estel Geodell a cousin & Kermit a brother to the bride. Waterloo had a many visitors last Sun. just like homecoming to hear the band concert, 8 bands where present. Rosalia finished our dresses today. Papa went over by Wagners a little while. George told him that the ball team was going to give a dance in Kammler’s Hall last wed. nite but the hall was rented to Herzog & he had his dances so they will give one there next Wed nite; musci [sic] to be furnished by Rheinhardt & Skaers bros; we didn’t no a thing about a dance last wed. nite; rain every day this week, it is awful. Co. from Freeburg looked at mule.

Report came over the phones this morning that Hershel Blackburn was dead, he was lying beside the plow yesterday, kicked by a mule, this morn. is dead. Papa went up town. Mr. John Whiteside had a run away with horses & wagon, & he was drug along under the wagon, his skull is split, & in a poor condition. We went to Belleville this afternoon, Rosalia got a spring coat for $1.95 6¢ sale tax; at Quality Store. We received a card from Creses, saying that she is spending a few day at home, we should come & see her, she is going to Chas. Sensel’s barn dance May 6. It is the paper the marriage of George Whitkamp 33 & Hilda Fritz 22 where married last Sun; afternoon Apr. 30 in the Evangical [sic] church, Mrs. Joe Geodelle & Gus Fritz the attendants.

Jonny Krehre’s [sic- Kreher] had a dance last night, celebrating Authur [sic] Schaefer’s birthday which was yesterday & Mrs. John Krehers last Mon; we have no invititation [sic]. Mr. George Boll & Karl where here got a fat hog, to butcher today; it weighed 242 lbs. & $3.50, $8.45 all cash. Papa went to Red Bud & bought lumber for corn crib, & coal 4 bus. 2@17½¢. & dried skim milk. Rosalia & Bert went out to Henry’s got some oats & helped in the garden. Mr. & Mrs. Louis Goessling of Waterloo have a little baby girl, they just have a pair. Omer Schilling has a birthday dance advertised, for Apr. 29 Sat. at Oak Grove. There was a diregible [sic] flew over this morning right low. The other day there was an airplane landed near Valeymeyer [sic] on Schaefer’s farm, & burned up. completely, 4 persons all from Arksasas [sic – Arkansas], the remains where taken to Wagner & Herman funerl [sic] home. Miss Alberta Heyl, Albert’s daughter is switch board operator in Waterloo now, taking the place of Miss Marie Gentsh who is taking the place of Ruth Olendorph, who recently on Easter Sun. got married to Morris Binder also working at the switch board. A Sign was put up in West end Hecker today saying “Road Closed.” It rained all night.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed awhile this afternoon we went out to Henry’s stopped took them along, went over to Dan Geodell’s & looked at his wagon, then went to Alois Havey but he wasn’t home either, then came back home again. There was a lady stopped here for 5 doz. eggs. 10¢, & one stopped for 11½ lbs. hens, 10¢, 2 hens. The cars sure driving today, it is nice. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went to Henry Birkner this evening, wedding anniversary. Bill & Philip, & Mrs. George Freund & Josie; where at Uncle Freds this afternoon. It is 2 yrs. today grandma Geodelle died.

Rosalia & Bertille went to Red Bud to church, to see the wedding of Herman Geossling & Adelia Wagner, it was a low mass, no boquets [sic – bouquets]. Mr. Slyvester Kaubreck & Frieda Wedel where best; the bride wore, royal blue dress with lace sleeves, & white hat & black shoes, the brides maid wore dark red dress & head band, the men wore dark blue business suits. There where no relation from his side at church, a few of heres where there. Papa went out on business this afternoon, & to Waterloo to get his watch repaired. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary camed up this afternoon, to get a check cashed from Henry’s but they didn’t send it near all, so she wants papa to write a letter to John Hempe at Carrollton Ill.

We washed, ironed, it is a beautiful day, warm. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up here got his checks cashed & then went to Belleville to get radio tubs. Eggs are 10½¢; in the store about 8¢. Papa & Rosalia took load of wheat to Waterloo, 15 bu. 20 lbs. 38¢ bu. Bertille stayed at Henry’s, helped wash this afternoon. Rosalia & Bertille went up to Mamie’s this evening; Wagners called them up & invited them to the wedding tomorrow; but they ain’t going.
