Cloudy & had a few showers this afternoon, had beef soup dinner, picked first peas, carrots, cabbage in soup. Henry & Rob. came got hay rake & mule. We worked gardens, ironed & patched etc. Uncle Fred & A. Mary came up cut lawn, tonite stopped awhile went to Buelhlers, to get eggs. Anna Degenhardts wedding picture is in Belleville paper, Geo. Degenhardt’s daughter; the oldest boy got married awhile back. Broad Hollow Grange has ice cream & Strawberry festival & dance tonite. Wilfred & Leo Cortner had a trial at Belleville this morn. for fighting at Floraville, with Muskoffs boy’s. Leo & Rose came this eve.

Thursday, Dec. 12, 1935

Emil’s birthday. Berti baked cookies. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up, he went up in the woods & got load rack; took milk & butter along home. Fredrick Fritsche came asked if he could go hunting here. Papa told him it was alright. Uncle brought the Belleville paper along up for us to read, they get it daily now. Mrs. Arthur Hepp was in the hospital, tonsils taken out. Steve Neff’s have a baby born at hospital. Willie Krehers have also a baby girl born Dec. 5. Webers Quarry is to be moved from Harbaughs farm to Rittmeyer’s, Weber has taken the Claus house in town, to pieces & will erect it out at the Quarry. Eichenseers have a new Chev. which costs $791.00 complete, trunk etc.

Papa & Rosalia went in the woods again this morn. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up to pay tax; were here for dinner & supper. Papa & Uncle Fred went up to the woods this afternoon with the mule & Henry’s mare, worked fine. Aunt Mary went up to see Louise Birkner awhile, she is worse again, they quit Dr. Eckert now & Pautler from Red Bud. Louie was there today. It was in the Bellville [sic] paper tonite, that suit to foreclose a $4100 mortgage on real estate in East St. Louis was filed in court by Peter Reheis against Louisa Fritsche & Joe Herzog.

We baked bread. Papa & Rosalia went to Belleville took chickens & eggs along, eggs 8¢ chickens 14¢. Papa went out to Uncle Fred’s, with a horse trader Baur of Belleville, made no trade though. Papa & Rosalia went to Waterloo load of wheat, it is 73¢ today. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came picked & stoned the rest of the cherries today. Bertille helped & had lunch there. Mr. & Mrs. Jim Beese, Doris Breutigam & Jero Collins, a grand nephew to Uncle Fred stoped [sic] short while with them, he came from California, stay awhile to visit relatives around here in this country, he hitch hiked it here to Belleville. Seen in the paper, Louis Goessling & family moved from Waterloo to Nashville Ill, where he has a position working on a road. It was in the Belleville paper that Alivra Jatho & Leslie Siebert to wed Sat. afternoon 2:30, & Clemens Mudds & Estella Miller where married at 7, o clock mass at the cathedral; both of New Athens, Ill.

We waxed the dinning [sic] room floor. Mr. Metzger came & paid $65.00 for the mule. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came then went to Belleville, & came back here again for supper & brought our glass along what belongs to the dresser. It rained nearly all day, colder this evening. Seen in the paper that on Kaiser & Wittenauer foreclosure, H.M. Hill is appointed as reciever [sic]. Miss Marie Krack was taken to the hospital again in St. Louis. It was in the Belleville paper that Mr. & Mrs. Clarence Hepp & Melba & Mildred attened [sic] a miscellanoues [sic] shower given in honor of Miss Lela Deucker of East St. Louis. A boam [sic – bomb?] was sent to Fr. Coughlin & Pres. Roosvelt [sic] again.
