Marita was sick last nite, vomiting & fever, they took her to Dr. Pautler’s this morn; were here all day he [Leo] & papa went in wood, to make posts for corn crib floor, had dinner & supper here. We packed things belonging to Bert [Bertille]; cleaned out cupboards; man here wanted bread. Seen in paper Jerome Schilling & Elizabeth Shields getting married Thanksgiving Day with dance at Pautlers Hall. Archie Wihel have baby girl – makes 2 girls & 1 boy in family.

Tuesday, Jan. 11, 1938

Cloudy, raining tonite. Washed, scrubbed basement, etc. Pap went to Hecker got inner tube for Chev. tire. A guy here yesterday eve. wanting clover seed didn’t sell none yet. Rennecker’s & Klotz girls & Emil, came, we played 1 game pinochle, then Leo & Rose [Rosalia] came, then we played 6 hand then Alois Roth & Gertie Cortner came yet, so then pap, Emil, Steve & Alois played solo, rest played pinochle, Gertie took my wreath along what Bert [Bertille] had, when Rose [Rosalia] got married. Viola wanted to borrow it, Alois & Gertie getting married next mo.

Sunday, Oct. 3, 1937

Went to mass. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stopped awhile. We had winers [sic – wieners] for dinner. Raining all morning. Today is the wedding of Aaron Papenberg 24 & Mabel Rieso 21 at Smithton Church with attendants. Mr. & Mrs. Elmer Rittmeyer sister of bride & Miss Alma Weber & Vic Papenberg; it is also the 25 Silver Wedding Ann. of Mr. & Mrs. Rieso; a reception to invited relatives & friends will be held at Daabs Clubhouse tonite; we are not invited, going to live in Lizzie Boll’s house, 2 rooms; she got electric put in last week. Today is also the Golden 50 Wedding Ann. of Mr. & Mrs. Mike Armstutz; for only relatives, children & sisters & brothers for supper & rest, nephews & nieces, cousins etc at Maniers Park & hall tonite for a dance & reception. Musci [sic] by Wm. Birkners Orch. & all musicians. Miss Ida Schmierbach of Smithton & many of Fateyeville [sic – Fayetteville] being married at Smithton Tues. morning; dance in eve. at Fateyville [sic – Fayetteville].

Thursday, Oct. 24, 1935

Papa went in the woods this morning. Henry brought a load corn; nice day, warm; Wheat sign up meeting at Kammlers Hall this morning; to fill application blanks. Armin Geodelle has a new ford card. V-8. Mr. Wolf real estate agent of Freeburg was here to see papa. We all went up in woods this afternoon, made wood. Hilda Klube is at Reheis’s since last Thurs; they are putting a new floor in part of house; Geo. Reheis is helping; Walter, Hilda & Annie, were up through town this afternoon; they are to be married on Oct. 30, Annie Birthday.

Tuesday, Oct. 15, 1935

Nice day, cooked 2 kettle soap, iron. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up, him & papa went out to get some rock out of the woods for Uncle’s road. Clara Wagner got 1 doz. eggs. Adolph Spalts moved to town today Jac Neff’s house; Henry is getting married & going to live on the farm.

Sunday, Sept. 15, 1935

Went to Red Bud. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came & Rose & Bert went along to Smithon [sic] Turner Pinic [sic], not much of a crowd, came more in the evening. We got chances on winning 15 quilts. Went to Oak Grove free dance Au Buchon’s Orch. pretty nice crowd. Hy Huelsmann & Rosilla Braun were published first time today.

Monday, Nov. 27, 1933

We washed, ironed; nice day. George Wagner & Steve Rennecker where over got George hog; 235 lb. it weighed. Papa went out to Henry’s, then to Waterloo, to see about the culpirts [sic]. He took the chev, to Eichenseer’s got glycerin 6 qts. put in $2.50. Miss Edna Rieso was tendered a miscellanous [sic] shower last Wed. nite at the home of Mrs. Lena Rittmeyer in Bellville [sic], she is to become his bride on Dec. 16, Mr. Elmer Rittmeyer. Twenty guests where there. The play that was last night, is going to be again tonite.

Today is band concert in Smithon [sic], & the News Democrat Corres. was to have there pinic [sic] at Daab’s ClubHouse but was given up now on account of the concert. there is pinic [sic] & cold supper here, given by the Evangical [sic] church; we went down awhile, watch the ball game between Red Bud & Hecker, the latter won 5 to 3; there wasn’t much doing at the pinic [sic] in the afternoon, everybody was at Smithon [sic]; at the band concert; the Koehler’s Orch. furnished music for the pinic [sic], Casper Koehler, Rahn, Cowell, Auelibou, are in the band. Uncle Fred won the quilt that was raffled, & a dandy. Bertille got pair pillow cases at playing bluey. Ed Schilling was published for 3 times & wedding will be Wed. morn. 8 o’clock at Red Bud dance at Oak Grove in the evening. Mamine Mueth & Bess Hillmer where published 1st time in Waterloo.

Wednesday, May 24, 1933

We are baking bread, cleaning for tomorrow is a holiday. Henry is 29 yrs. old. & also 5 wedding anniversary. We been planting corn, water mellons [sic], pumpkins. It rained last night & this morning heavy. We went to Waterloo, to church, got our battery from Horns took the other one down to Bill’s, but nobody at home there. We planted out 100 sweet potatoe [sic] plants for 25¢, got them at Connor’s; we didn’t get to the birthday the roads are to bad. Miss Irene Reheis delightfully entertained at surprize misscellaneous [sic] Shower in honor of bride-to-be, Wilma Reheis & Hugo Probst to be married June 7th; singing & dancing were the featured diversions of the evening; the bride to be received many beautiful gifts, the attendants at the wedding will be Miss Irene Reheis, & a cousin & Robert Probst brother to groom.
