Bert [Bertille] cleaned kitchen etc. Pap worked garden cooked kettle soap; went fishing this afternoon, got 6 nice fish. “Susie Gal of Hills,” playing for a dance at Log Cabin Sat. nite & her gang. Ball players having a dance at White Pine Thurs. nite at Hirst corner, free dance & fish fry. Karl Boll was here on business for Ralph Etling.

Tuesday, Oct. 25, 1938

Cooked kettle soap, made 3 qts. Picalia [sic], had beef soup dinner. Bert [Bertille] put flowers on windows. Henry brought load corn this afternoon, took scales & block & tackle along.

Thursday, April 21, 1938

Nice day, warm. Cooked kettle soap. Pap went to Waterloo, with 20 bus. wheat @ 72 [cents], yesterday he got 68 [cents]. Price is 75 [cents]; he stopped at Henry’s also. Mrs. Cleveland was there to. Floyd is to get 1 lb. coffee on the Old Judge program by Susie. 3 persons on same song, policeman Song. I didn’t hear it on radio. Otto Geodelle of St. Louis, formerly of Waterloo, is in hospital, shot himself in head, but didn’t kill him, is in hospital. Pap went to see Hy. Feurer; about the signing of corn program. then he went to see Fred Weber by Smithton, about pigs. The Ladies Aid have a card party at Kammler’s tonite; Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came. Bert [Bertille] went along to euchre. Bert [Bertille] got first prize 11 points out of 14 games. got a straw rug, beautiful. Uncle [Fred] had 7 got box cocoa & A. [Aunt] Mary had 7 got napkins; not much of a crowd 7 tables euchre 3 or 4 pinochle, & bluey quite a few; not much at all.

Cooked kettle soap. Pap went out on business trip. Bert [Bertille] cleaned dining room varnished floor. Harry Wittenauer sewing wheat here today. Went to Red Bud this eve. Rosary Devotion.

Thursday, April 1, 1937

Cooked kettle soap, sprayed fruit trees & brooder house. Raining April showers; went out to Uncle Fred’s, for dinner & supper. Josie Keller cam also, we played cards this afternoon, came up here this eve; awhile, she also went to see Liz Boll & the Nuns Sisters; went home at 8:30. Eggs 21¢.

Tuesday, Oct. 15, 1935

Nice day, cooked 2 kettle soap, iron. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up, him & papa went out to get some rock out of the woods for Uncle’s road. Clara Wagner got 1 doz. eggs. Adolph Spalts moved to town today Jac Neff’s house; Henry is getting married & going to live on the farm.

Elmer Parker’s 21 yr. birthday, celebrating it tonite in Uncle Clem’s barn, at Jim Parkers; no invitations, everybody welcome. We cooked kettle soap. Papa & Rose fixing fence; Mrs. Rennecker came, said if anybody calls at there play, should sent them down to Katy’s, digging a pond today. A guy here wanted old gold. Bertie fixed sweet potatoe [sic] rows. We went to Donahue’s to Milching election dance, 2 kegs of beer & free dance. Musci [sic] by Nic Ellis, or Sunrise Four; Mrs. Donahue is very bad, not expected to live.

Papa got crushing done. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary & Berti went to Belleville to a Auction sale, of late Hy. Schoepp, bought all kids thrash, etc. got coat hangers 49-10¢. They had supper here. Henry & Leona left kids here, & went to Belleville brought Bernice Mehrmann along out. George Wagner’s family came this evening. Clarence Wittenauer paid $3.00 balance on ball ground today for last yr. Wagner’s cooked two kettles soap this morning.

Saturday, April 14, 1934

We cooked kettle soap. Papa went out too Uncle Fred also to Waterloo on business. The baseball club is giving a dance in Waterloo barn tonight, All Buchon’s band. Mr. Marshall Hill of Smithon [sic] have a little baby girl born, at the hospital at 3 o’clock this morning. Papa had dinner out at Uncle Freds. Robert Laut was here, wanted pap to vote for him, school election today, he is running for director. Clarence Wittenauer came to see papa about ball grounds, wether [sic] it was rented or not. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, made garden up here. Ted Eichenseer came down electioneering, him & Lester Gregson are running for town clerk to be next Tues. Robert Laut 30 votes won for school director, Wm Weigand 10 votes was running against him. Thresher boss meeting at Belleville this afternoon. Planted potatoes, at the Irish road.

We cooked kettle soap, papa got his haircut. We all went out to Aunt Mary’s took our green tomatoes along & ground ours & theirs up for piccali, we got 5 qts; we had supper out there, beef soup. Oh Boy!
