Bert [Bertille] cleaned kitchen etc. Pap worked garden cooked kettle soap; went fishing this afternoon, got 6 nice fish. “Susie Gal of Hills,” playing for a dance at Log Cabin Sat. nite & her gang. Ball players having a dance at White Pine Thurs. nite at Hirst corner, free dance & fish fry. Karl Boll was here on business for Ralph Etling.

Sunday, March 19, 1939

Went to mass. Leo & family came for dinner. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary & Bill [Klein] came this afternoon had supper, we went fishing Bill caught one Uncle ate it for supper. Emil came this eve. We had collection 2nd in church today for German Refugees; according to Bishof [sic] laws. John Wiegand, nee Kleber have a baby boy since Tues.

Friday, May 6, 1938

Henry & Leona came left boys here, Bert [Bertille] went along Rosalia’s; & came back with Henry, Leona stayed. Billy [Willis] stayed here all day, fishing boys & Henry went home, caught 8 fish for supper, so far. Bert baked cake, cookies, got 50 lb. flour from Mertz; delivered. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came this eve. Henry & boys came got Billy.

Wednesday, April 6, 1938

Windy, cloudy, this afternoon. Leona & Billy [Willis] came, we stretched curtains etc. blanket had dinner here. Emil was over awhile, pap caught 6 fish for supper, boy! were they good. Karl Boll plowed a piece of a lot for Rob. Laut, planted some potatoes. They finally got Kammler’s barn moved to Werners lot this morn. accross [sic] hard road, stopped traffic for short awhile. Bert [Bertille] worked garden this evening. Radio says cold with snow tonite & rain, had a light shower this eve.

Friday, July 12, 1935

Baked bread, cookies, cake. Rain all day, no threshing. Henry & family came this evening. Joe Sommers have a little baby girl, has now 4 girls. Papa went fishing in our pond, caught 9, Boy! fish supper.

Thursday, May 5, 1932

We went to Red Bud. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here awhile & went home, they where fishing last nite, caught one, they brought it along up & we put it in the pond. There where 5 boys & 1 girl made there private coumioun [sic – communion] at Red Bud. Cletus Buehler was one of the boys. This afternoon we went out through hills & hallows St. Joe, Burskville [sic – Burksville], Wartburg, Waterloo, stopped at Henry’s, but they weren’t at home, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where there too, they came back before we left. Bertille took Olivia Gregson’s pattern back, this evening. Fr. Grootens came over there too. He has a euchre in the hall tonite. Steve was here awhile.

Sunday, May 18, 1930

Today is Walter Reheis’ birthday.  He is 22 years old.  Aunt Mary came up to church with Oscar Birkners.  After church, Rosalia, Papa, Bertille went out to Uncle Fred and Aunt Mary’s.  When we got there they just was ready to go fishing.  So we all went along.  Uncle Fred caught 2, Papa 1, and Bertille one.  Oscar Birkner’s wife and kids came down fishing a little while too.  Then about 4:30 we went back and ate supper.  Fish Fry .  Ha!  Ha!  All day fishing.  In the evening Rosalia and Bertille went to church.  Tonight there is a dance at Haudrich’s, a barn dance.  Nick Schaefer is going to have his Thursday night the way we hear.  The Hecker Baseball Club was playing with Floraville.  Hecker won the game.  Hecker won every game played with them so far.  This morning the children made their first Communion and also some made Solemn Communion.  Those that made their Solemn were girls: Ethel Parker, Eunice Schneider, Rita Braun, Elenora Krehrer & Bernice Neff.  Boys: Lee Gregson, Lawrence Wittenauer, Morris Braun, Willie Braun, Wilbur Wittenauer.
