Went to Red Bud; Fr. Dubren of Waterloo said mass, & so many confessions he had this morn. We stopped at Dashner’s funeral parlor to see Fr. Stern, laid out in purple vestments hat & shoes, opened all the way copper colored steel casket; looked good. Leo & Rose & we went out to Henry’s had dinner & lunch; celebrated Henry’s birthday; pap left at 2 o clock, had to be at Red Bud, brought Fr. Stern to church at 3 o’clock, 8 men on guard all nite along, pap turns was from 3 to 5. Bert [Bertille] came home with Leo & Rose, he stopped & milked yet. then went home came back again also Uncle Fred A. Mary, Bert went along all in Leo’s car, went to Red Bud to church, by Fr. Stern for ½ or then went out to cemetery to see were he would be buried, that makes 4 priests now buried there; also looked at Omer’s grave; has no tombstone yet; Seen the carnival west of town, didn’t go in, stopped at Log Cabin on way home free dance musci [sic] by Schmidts Orch; large crowd there. Wil – Leo Cortner was in a fight last nite at Floraville with Muskoffs was badly [? – unclear] hurt, they say.

Pentecost. Went to mass. Henry & family & Leo & Rose were here for dinner & supper; & Uncle Fred & A. Mary came this afternoon for supper, we took pictures over across the street by A. Mary’s. bridal wreath bush, that is blooming so nice. There is a concert in the Evangical [sic] church tonite, Lipperts children is in the band. Carl Armbruster of Smithton is again in Belleville hospital, had motorcycle accident Sat. nite on Waterloo road; broke his leg. Staheleber was also riding with his motorcycle but was farther ahead when it happened ran into truck or something.

Mothers Day. Went to Red Bud mass. We received a 2 books chances yesterday from Dupo, 1st prize $700.00 & 2nd. $300.00, pinic [sic] on May 31; we get them every year. Went out to A. [Aunt] Mary’s for dinner Josie Keller was out & this afternoon all went to Leo’s had supper there. Leo & Rose came down to milk station this morn, put in complain about getting there milk back all the time; they brought some sour milk along here to make cheese with. Uncle Fred & A. Mary came up this eve.; we went to the firemens dance at Manier’s Hall nice crowd, Skaer’s played; cleared $40. at the door. Adm. 25¢.

Acenscion [sic] Holiday. Went to mass at 6 at Red Bud. Fr. Stern is very low received last sacrements [sic] Mon. Uncle Adam’s birthday 87 yrs. We went to Belleville, pap went to dentist, & we did shopping. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary & Leo & Rose were all in there also, & lot of people from all over. Uncle Fred & A. Mary came planted cabbage plants 50 across the street. Miss Mildred Gambach is at Belleville hospital operated on. Sly. Kabureck is again at home. Brauns from Eliza Ball’s house moved to W. Monike’s house last week. For one day at least it didn’t rain so far. Uncle Fred & A. Mary, Henry & family, & Leo & Rose were all here this evening.

Went to mass; Fr. Stern had it, but he isn’t so good he was invited to Ruma tomorrow on Pius Simpsons golden Wedd. anniversary, but he couldn’t go, says all he could invite us for his funeral, don’t think he will live to celebrate jubilee. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had dinner here, then went home. It rained again all afternoon & nite, it has rained every Sun. since Easter I believe & almost everyday.

Pretty cool today, with some showers, went to Red Bud mass, went with Henry & family to Uncle Fred’s for dinner & supper. Leo & Rose were also over. Uncle Fred & A. Mary came. Bert [Bertille] went along to Floraville to Boeker’s Wedding dance, Boy! what a crowd; Girls played. Rained a little. We got in the ditch coming home, he drove along the side of the road on account of holes & oil, got in rut & went right in the ditch. Lee Gregson & Isd. Helfrich came along Lee took his tire chains & hooked on bumper & pulled it out backwards, Leo & Lee pushed, Isd. drove; would of never got out if he wouldn’t of pulled it out. Uncle put his chains on also.

Went to mass. Fr. Stern read it, but isn’t just so healthy yet. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary & Leo & Rose were here for dinner & supper. Bishoff had Confirmation here this morn. & raining. Bert [Bertille] went along with Leo & Rose to Floraville to Bockers to a dance nice crowd, musci [sic] by Vogel Bros. Mr. Honnecker of Floraville was buried this afternoon, she died last week. Mrs. Probst from there also was buried last week. Herman Goessling have a baby born on Apr. 14.

Went to first mass. Fr. Stern is still not able to say mass. In Hecker & Waterloo children making there solemn Commioun [sic – Communion] today. Emme Eckardt came got the veil again, getting confirmed next Sun. here. Con. Myerscough stopped in. Lester Gregsons came, pap was elected to serve as judge on town election Apr. 20. he is going to take the job. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed awhile after church. Mary Havey & man of E. St. Louis were published for last time this morn. We went out to Henkels paid for the seed $12. then went to Henrys. Uncle Fred & A. Mary came there to, we all had supper there. Uncle & pap went in woods, & Rob. also, Floyd is sick, dizzy spell he gets, cold. Set 2 more duck eggs. The mail carrier brought the rest of there chixs the same day, 250 & all were dead in box; they [Henry] wrote a letter to the co. right away but so far didn’t receive no answer; Henry said, thought the chics might of been chloroform. Cyril Haudrich is having a birthday dance at Pautlers, Am. [admission] 25 & 15¢. Skaers musci [sic].

Went to services at 8 o clock Red Bud & again at 2 this afternoon; Pretty cold; was 18 last nite. Pap paid Fr. Stern pew rent, flood donation & bake sale donation tomorrow. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came. Bert went along to church with her. Fr. Ratteoman finished it of. Fr. Orlet was there also another priest.

Went to Red Bud mass. Leo & Rose came down had dinner here; Pap & Leo went to Freeburg looked at cows. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came & Rose & Bert went along to Belleville; Rose got dress & Mary a hat. Pap & Leo went to Waterloo & Valmeyer looking at cows, stopped in at Waterloo church. Light bill was only $1. this mon. didn’t use it so much.
