Mothers Day. Went to Red Bud mass. We received a 2 books chances yesterday from Dupo, 1st prize $700.00 & 2nd. $300.00, pinic [sic] on May 31; we get them every year. Went out to A. [Aunt] Mary’s for dinner Josie Keller was out & this afternoon all went to Leo’s had supper there. Leo & Rose came down to milk station this morn, put in complain about getting there milk back all the time; they brought some sour milk along here to make cheese with. Uncle Fred & A. Mary came up this eve.; we went to the firemens dance at Manier’s Hall nice crowd, Skaer’s played; cleared $40. at the door. Adm. 25¢.

Monday, Feb. 3, 1936

St. Blase. We wanted to go to mass, but the weather was terrible this morning, fog & sleet ice, one car turned 4 times around, in front of Laut’s house; papa seen it. We washed, made cheese & 2½ lbs. butter. Kunklemann was here looked at the mare. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stopped in a little, then went to see Chris Buehlers, Linus & Iona aren’t feeling well. Quite a few around town got the mumps. Clara Wagner got 1 lb. butter 30¢ & Rennecker got 1 lb. & 5¢ milk; Eggs 23¢ Wheat $1.

Tuesday, June 18, 1935

We all went up dewberry picking this morn. got 6 gallons, had our baskets all filled, canned 9 qts.; cold packed, & rest in jelly, 12 glasses so far; & 5 pts. peas, also cold packed. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, he went to Waterloo; Clara Wagner came over a little, tell us about canning peas. Rain again, in showers, & awful cold, north wind. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were at Belleville Sat, to see Ivo, he was pretty good talked quite a bit. Papa got skim milk yesterday, made cheese today.

Saturday, June 8, 1935

We got 5¢ skim milk, made pie & cheese. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up, we had lunch together here. Papa went to Behl’s sale by Oak Grove, bought a harrow $2.20 & wedges 60¢ for 2. The Richland Rod & Gun club is giving a dance at Kammlers tonite. Vogels Bros. musci [sic], I don’t think the crowd was so large.
