Papa got crushing done. We went to Belleville this afternoon got bu. apples at Schmisseur’s Store for $1.00. It rained a little this morning. Mr. Hugo Schwagel of Smithon [sic], storeman & Miss Edna Southoff of Millsdat [sic] were united in marriage at New Baden at 7 o clock by Fr. Wallers this morning; surprize [sic] to there many friends. Mr. Henry Weigand is in the Hospital at Belleville, operated on Thurs. morning for appendix, is getting along well. Mr. Willie Matzenbacher’s called there baby boy Werner & Osie Matzenbacher called there Harold.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up, then he went back home again, got telephone. Meister was there to get hay at $5. load. Henry came up is disking this afternoon, had lunch. Mr. & Mrs. Alpho Parker have a little baby boy was christened Virgil Sun. Mr. Harry Stumpf found a black widow spider, one day last week, brought to to Hecker, & the teacher Miss Burgess explained it at school, to the children. There is a Republician Meeting at the Lower School tonight, to which everyone is cordially invited; will be at Hecker School Fri night.

Papa went down to Buehler’s got crushing done. They didn’t crush in Hecker. Clara Wagner came. Rosalia set her hair for tonite, Edwin’s wife birthday dance at Floraville. Leona brought Berti home, she went to Waterloo. We all went to Waterloo, took lard to Schulmiester 10¢ lb., then went to Columbia bought some things at Weilbacher’s cheap sale; talked to Chas. Kern about farm implements; went to see Jac Mavers, then to Red Bud home, bought liver sausage 17¢ & soup beef 12½¢. Mr. & Mrs. Willie Matzenbacher have a little boy. first born; last week. There was a accident at the creamery station yesterday, the guy that works there & Adolph Rittmeyer, cars were damaged somewhat.

Otto Rahn of near Red Bud have a baby girl; also Dr. Pautler have a baby 9½ [lb] boy Paul. The morning’s & evenings are rather cool. Mrs. Chas Fleckenstein has a sale today. Papa & Berti went, got the drill for 50¢ brought it along home, binder $1.40 & the wagon $32; & corn plants $26; highest things sold; to some one from Baldwin; the binder is still out yet, rather fair crowd, Grossman auctioner, Lawrence Weigand clerk. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came awhile from the sale. Monroe Feurer was here in the morning counting our hogs. 15 pigs 1 sow, checked up the papers, see if everything was correct. A man here wanted buy old gold; one here selling washing machines. Levi Gregson bought the automobile at the sale; one just like his, tire all flat, & no battery in it for $11.50. Emil pulled it home for him, behind his car. Gus Klotz came & borrowed our lime dust spreader. Mehrman got 8 doz eggs 21¢ he papa, also Metz.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary’s Wedding Ann. 36th. Frank Birkner’s have a little baby girl since Aug. 20. Mon. Edna & also Jerome Cortner’s, but it was born dead. Light rain nearly all morning. We went out to Uncle Fred’s this evening, Henry & family came too, watermelon, cake, candy were served; the roads aren’t bad.

Washed a few pieces; Mr. Rennecker was here awhile. A man around selling bonnets 35¢ & few other articles. Papa & Rosalia went out & hauled cheat wheat for him, chicken feed. It is awful hot today. Mr. & Mrs. George Parker have a little baby boy born yesterday on Oscar Birkner’s birthday also. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary called here awhile this evening. The new fire engine was to be tryed [sic] out tonite, George Wagner’s went to watch the performance. Chas. Hill has his house build on a truck now, & have the car here to, staying by Hill’s here at present, then will leave later, house isn’t all finished in side yet, they have stored the rest of furniture etc., with Horn & Hill’s.

Rob. Mertz is going to put a new roof on the shed binder out at Henry’s today. Summer begins. They oiled to Hecker streets. Cleaned chick house. Henry & family came, kids stayed here had dinner, Bertille rode along with them to Belleville, shopping. We sure had a nice rain, rather windy. There was a man killed on the Columbia hardroad, in automobile accident. Mr. & Mrs. Omar Mertz of Red Bud have a baby boy born June 15. Mrs. Bertha Probst has returned home from the hospital. Miss Marjorie Rausch is in the hospital, was operated for appendix. Beautiful evening after the rain. Had first chicken & kraut slaw dinner.

Mrs. Geo. Kuhn Jr. returned from the hospital with the little boy which was born Apr. 29; they have 2, girl & boy. she was Miss Emily Wiegand. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this afternoon, we all had lunch together here. Uncle got each 1 box ice cream from Griffins, Oh! Boy was it good. We went out there this evening after the ladder & bucks. Miss Marie Harbaugh, daughter of Wm. Harbaugh of Waterloo became the bride of Mr. Herman Miller, son of Frank Miller, last Sat. May 5 in Catholic Church by Rev. Elmer Schumacher, cousin of the bride at 8 o’clock mass. The bride was attendanted [sic] by 2 sister Irene & Rose, wearing canary & blue silk next, blue hat & carried roses; while Rose wore pink silk net & pink hat, also carried roses. The groomsmen were 2 brothers, Ray & Robert Miller, attired in Oxford Gray. The bride had white satin. In the afternoon the Bridal party left for St. Louis to visit Sister Ann William, so she could see her sisters in wedding attire. The bride is a musci [sic] teacher in piano. He is employed by Quick Meal Stove Co. Mr. John Fisher the heater & plumber business of Waterloo died May 7, 59 yrs. buried Thurs. afternoon. The picture of Mr. & Mrs. James Parker is in today’ Belleville paper, he will be 85 yrs in Sept.

Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s & got a load of wheat; took it to Red Bud; got 78¢; then got a load here to feed. Rosalia & Bertille went out to Aunt Mary’s, fixed her dress, had lunch, brought pears & peaches along. Wm. Harbaugh’s have baby girl born last nite. Yvone Rapp was taken to Red Bud Hospital operated for appendix, from 11:15 to 12 o clock this morning. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came we all went to Red Bud, to the Drawing boxing & wrestling; quite a few names where called, Fred Reheis was, but he didn’t appear, that is the only one except Mrs. Frank McDermott from around here, that was called.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, we fixed 4 chickens, & things for the pinic [sic] & Papa went up to see George Schilling. Henry brought Rosalia home, & Robert went home, he went to the pinic [sic] first with Aunt Mary. Karl Boll’s have a little baby girl since 5 o clock this 9 lbs morn; she is pretty sick, no one alound [sic – allowed] to come into the house for 3 days. It rained & hailed up north terrible, we had a shower, & wind, spoiled the pinic [sic] for awhile. We drove 1 up with the car, after the rain, it was a fair crowd, they got rid of all the chicken & things, we bought cake for 30¢ pies they sold 5¢ a piece. Smithon [sic] Band furnished the musci [sic], the 10 articles where raffled out at 9 o clock, Rich from Belleville won the ft. prize a quilt, lace dresser scarf, Geo. Gresslioem plaid blanket, Ed. Parker, 100 lb. flour F ed Eichenseer; ½ doz. stailes knives & forks, Hamil of Belleville, bed spread, Josie Gregson, pillow cases, H. Becker, pocket watch, Hy. Kirsch Jr. Red Bud, linen tablecloth, Ethel Pour, 5 gal. gas Ed. Coup.
