We canned 2 qts. tomatoes & ½ pickles, 1 qt. beets. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up all day; lawning & cleaning for Sunday. She helped to cut out shirts for Bobby. Rittemeyer the sales agent was around, he left us a sample brush. Mrs. Louis Millman got operated for appendix Mon, she was at church yet on Sunday. Emmet Cowell is awful sick, has pneoumia [sic]. Mr. Gus Grahlherr is pretty bad sick, has awful pains.

We went to Red Bud. This afternoon we went over to Uncle Fred’s, George Wagner’s family come & Hy. Armstutz awhile, we had lunch there. This evening they went home again. Mr. Eichenseer’s brother priest said the mass in Hecker this morning. Mr. Jac. Maurer is awful bad sick the way we heard this morn, he is paralisied [sic], he sees double out of one eye, & his tongue is all crook & swollen, he can’t hardly talk. It rained nearly all afternoon & night. Carl Quathammer is giving a dance this evening.

We worked on our quilt most of today. Papa went out again to Henry’s to help him sew oats, 12 bus. but it started raining about 3 oclock, so they had to quit, he was there for dinner. One of our sows died, & Rosalia went down to Eliza Boll’s & telephoned to Johnson Rendering Works at Belleville to get it, him & Romi Meng helped yet to get it, it was sick for a couple of weeks, due to vaccainating [sic]. It was rather cold today.
Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1932
We washed & hung it in the basement, because the weather is rather disagreeable out. Papa got his hair cut this afternoon. Elmer Kammler said his wife & Mrs. Laut where both down in bed with the flu. Robert Laut paid $400.00 for Wm. Laut’s property here in town. Mr. & Mrs. Laut are already living down in Elmer’s house, they will have sale. Henry was here awhile this evening, he went to Hy. Hepp’s to get some leghorn hatching eggs for 11¢ doz. He say’s the boys have the wooping[sic] cough now. We where going to Red Bud to lent service, but Henry came then made it to later.
Sunday, Feb. 14, 1932
We went to Red Bud to church. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here for dinner, & played cards awhile then went home. Mrs. Rennecker was saying this morn. that Mrs. Elmer Kammler is pretty bad sick, she has an awful bad cold. Robert Laut bought the old Mrs. Laut’s place & is going to move up to Hecker, when school is out & Mr. & Mrs. Laut are going by Elmer Kammlers, because Mr. Laut ain’t able to word [sic – work] any more, he can’t carry a bucket of water or a armful of wood.

Vic Eichenseer was here & delivered some articles, flour etc. Mr. & Mrs. Louis Armstrutz where here this evening, playing 5 hand pinochle, Bertille had 1500 spade. The nurse was at the Paroachial [sic] School & sent John Krehers, Nic Schaefers & Will Braun’s, children home because they had scarlet fever & also quarrantined [sic] them. Melburn Miller got pulled in for making whiskey & beer.
Tuesday, Jan. 19, 1932
Papa was up at Osie Neff’s today to see wether [sic] it would suit to measure his road & stacked it off, but it dosn’t [sic] suit him. Gustv Dudenhoeffer was out at Pete Reheis all last week. There is so much sickness going around again. Mr. Hill had wooping [sic] cough & Willis Harbaugh children, Henry Birkners & Frank Birkners & Oscar’s kids are sick, Ed Cortners, Nic Schaefers, Ed Schneiders, kids all got some kind of sickness & lots others yet. John Reageans & Bill Harbaughs got the signs on for Scarlet fever. A man was here trying to sell the Daily Advocate paper. Papa went to Waterloo this afternoon. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary & Josie came here, then we all went to the euchre in Kammler’s Hall, Bertille had 8 points & got a bucket. Josie got bobby price [sic – booby prize] a layer cake. Rheinhardts band played for the dance.
Monday, Dec. 28, 1931
Jos Braun is bad sick got a stroke. Henry & family came up they left the kids here with Pop & the rest of us went to the funeral. Geodell’s it was very large.
Saturday, Oct. 17, 1931
Rosalia & Bertille went out to Henry’s, to help cook apple butter, 15 gals. Henry is sick, bad cold. We where out there for dinner, lunch. Mrs. Geodelle was also there. Papa was at Red Bud at a Stock sale, 85 cattle, they had 2 sale auctioners.[sic] We got the order from Chicago Mail Order. Bertille shoes, & paps cap. Today is Kenneth Kemp’s birthday, the bunch was talking about going there.
