Another warm day. Henry, Robert & Grover came with tractor & combine, got out about 5 bus. seed but its green & tough so they quit; had dinner & lunch here. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up. Edler came on business from St. Louis to see U. [Uncle] Fred. Scheuster, the guy that married Quathammer’s girl were here, looking for money. Harm’s boy married a Quathammer girl to.

Sunday, April 4, 1937

Raining all morn, & heavy, we went to Red Bud mass, hospital priest, Oberlinkels said mass, Fr. Stern is in hospital suffering with nervous breakdown. Rain & mud make it bad for Quathamaner’s funeral this afternoon; he was about 45 yrs; has been ailing for quiet awhile. The Paderborn children are to make there solemn Coumioun [sic – Communion] this morn; tomorrow afternoon get confirmed. We are invited out to Geo. Berniers for supper this eve. We went out had supper, played cards, Alois Roth, was also there Rheinhardt didn’t come, to muddy; 2 of Berniers girls making solemn coumnioun [sic] & getting confirmed; bad morn. rain. Bert gave Theresa a dress.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this afternoon, started making garden. Bert sewed beets, carrots & cabbage seed. We went out to Uncle Adam’s & Emil’s awhile this evening beautiful, warm. Mr. Quathamer of Lord’s Corner died will be buried to-morrow afternoon at Lord’s Corner. Querheims Undertaker in charge.

Papa went to see Quathammers. Olivia Lauts birthday. Christ Buehler was here & looked at our hogs. He & Ino came back this morning, & got 2 hogs. @3.75 $19.50 made a note. The sewing circle of Red Bud gave a euchre, & lotto party in there hall; we went down, but didn’t win nothing, only had 7 points, the nines didn’t all get prizes. Miss Marcella Gregson got the pillow cases what we made; it rained & such awful high wind when came home, nearly blowed everything to piece.

Wednesday, May 3, 1933

Papa is 55 yrs. old. He went out on business trips this morn, & afternoon, went to George Boll’s, Buehler’s, Parker’s. Mr. Quathammer was here. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary are working up here again. This evening them & Henry & family & Chris Buehler’s family where up, for the birthday, cake, popcorn, beer where had. Mrs. Louis Birkner is sick in bed again.

We went to Red Bud. This afternoon we went over to Uncle Fred’s, George Wagner’s family come & Hy. Armstutz awhile, we had lunch there. This evening they went home again. Mr. Eichenseer’s brother priest said the mass in Hecker this morning. Mr. Jac. Maurer is awful bad sick the way we heard this morn, he is paralisied [sic], he sees double out of one eye, & his tongue is all crook & swollen, he can’t hardly talk. It rained nearly all afternoon & night. Carl Quathammer is giving a dance this evening.

Papa went to see Roman Schwartz this morn, for trading. He went over to Ed. Mengs this afternoon, & tonite Meng came over here & they went down to see Quathammer, but couldn’t make no trade. Mrs. Rennecker came over this evening, till papa got back. I seen in the Waterloo paper that Emil C. Geoddelle bought the West End garage on the hard road from Clarence Olendorph.
