Leona’s birthday. 29 yrs. Pap hauled 2 loads wood. Bert [Bertille] finished cleaning upstairs. Leona was at Clevelands cooking applebutter. Virgil Eichenseer came got catalogs got a newspaper drive at Cathedral at Belleville at present. Leo & family came this eve. Bill [Klein] came & Bert [Bertille] went along home to his mother to get title for his car, they were going to go to Waterloo, so we came back home again; had watermelon, but wasn’t any good.

Sunday, Sept. 19, 1937

Went to Red Bud; Fr. prayed for the sick of the parish. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] came had dinner here, brought samples of apple butter, tastes pretty good; they went out to Henry’s this afternoon, get haircut. Floraville have church pinic [sic] & annual home coming today. there is Holy Name Society Rally held at Mascoutah today, for all parishes. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came about 3:30 o’clock, Bert [Bertille] went along to Floraville pinic [sic], till about 9 came home again, didn’t win nothing raffled 7 quilts, went to Waterloo, Millsdadt [sic], Belleville & St. Louis.

Thursday, Sept. 16, 1937

Bert [Bertille] went to Leo’s cooked apple butter; mother [Leo’s mother] & A. [Aunt] Mary came this afternoon; she got 16 gals. Tolin looked at stock. Eichenseers hauled in 200 bu. coal.

Saturday, Oct. 17, 1931

Rosalia & Bertille went out to Henry’s, to help cook apple butter, 15 gals.  Henry is sick, bad cold.  We where out there for dinner, lunch.  Mrs. Geodelle was also there.  Papa was at Red Bud at a Stock sale, 85 cattle, they had 2 sale auctioners.[sic]  We got the order from Chicago Mail Order.  Bertille shoes, & paps cap.  Today is Kenneth Kemp’s birthday, the bunch was talking about going there.

Wednesday, Oct. 7, 1931

Bertille & Rosalia went out to Aunt Mary’s & finished the dresses.  Papa went to Waterloo & renew our Waterloo paper, the times.  This afternoon he took the chev. out to Barthel’s & got the oil changed (14342 miles).  Hill’s cooking apple butter.  Hill was here & told Papa about the telephone meeting tomorrow evening at his place.  It rained nearly all night.

Tuesday, Sept. 9, 1930

Rosalia & Bertille went out to Henry’s to help cook apple butter, she got 10 gallons.  Mrs. Geodelle was also out, we cook a kettle full of soap, and washed this afternoon & scrubbed the rooms & porches for Leona.  We had lunch & dinner out there.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here.  We found 19 eggs.  Egges are .20¢ a doz.  I seen in the paper that $500,000 as fire sweeps Quality & Oakland Foundries at Belleville yesterday.  Papa is discing the chicken yards.  Henry Meng was over watching Papa disc a little while.
