St. Patricks Day. Went to church, went out to Uncle Freds & had dinner & supper, played cards listened to the radio. Mr. Bill Braun of Red Bud came gave us all a ride in his new coach, we all got a chance on one to be given away in Apr. by the Co.; he is a sales agent for chev, working for Schrieber; at Red Bud; we rode out as far Blackjack road & back again, papa drove the car. Oak Grove & Doanhoe’s Brezzy Hill all are having St. Patricks dances tonite, we didn’t go; Lent.

Went to Red Bud church. Emil spend an hr. with us this morn., wanted some seed oats; Nice warm day. The young people of Red Bud parish, are giving a 3 act play, name is “Everybody’s Crazy;” we all went to see it, & Boy! was it good, crowded hall, some had to leave, it was filled, having it again tomorrow night, because couldn’t all get in, players were, Ed & Leona Vogt, Melba Siebold, Gladys & Al Siefert, Harvey, Bob Cowell, Pearl Roscow, Viola Pertle, Linus Mertz, Tiny AuBuchon, Catherine May, Orvil Schmidt, Jim Tobin, Mrs. Bill Haudrich; tap dancing & singing, musci [sic] by AuBuchon Band & Kettler. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, went to the euchre, given at Kammlers by Fire Co. also had nice crowd, dance after, musci [sic] by Birkner Orch.; Adm. 15¢. Jhon [sic] Cody had opening & birthday dance, at his place, Oak Grove. Margaret McDermott is in Red Bud hospital was operated fro tumor last Tues, was getting along nicely, but isn’t very good at present; Raymod [sic] Matzenbacher, was operated for appendix Sat. afternoon also at Red Bud hospital; that is Pete Matzenbacher’s boy.

We took our turnips in. Bernice Wagner got ½ doz. eggs. Papa hauled 2 loads wood. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary & Josie Keller gave us a short call, then they all left for St. Louis; 500 3 Christy Ave. she took eggs along, she also went down & gave Lizzie Boll a call. The St. Patricks church of Tiptown is giving a fish fry & shooting match tonight at Oak Grove; we went , but didn’t win any; had a dance also, Adm 25. AuBchons [sic] Orc. played. We stoped [sic] at Henry’s.
Sunday, Oct. 7, 1934
Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed awhile had lunch. Barry May has shooting match this afternoon. The Hecker Baseball team has a dance at Manier’s tonite, Jolly Six Osc. of Red Bud, pretty fair crowd attended. We stayed home all day; had beef soup dinner. Mr. Joe Hilpert & family stopped a little while, he bought 2 doz. eggs; they were down at Sparta, he helped to build the CCC camps there. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, too take in Maniers dance; outside. Papa & Uncle Fred went out to Henry’s. Pete Birkner looked at the house, he said he would furnish everything & plastered it for $30.00, papa thought that was rather much, so he won’t let him fix it. We went to Oak Grove to a dance, musci [sic] by Chris Dorn’s Orc. Adm. 25¢; nice crowd & good time. James McCaffery 68 of Red Bud died, funeral tomorrow, 9 o’clock by Rev. Stern. Mr. Emil Frick brother of Mrs. Willie Gregson died, will be buried tomorrow afternoon at St. Louis.

Rosalia & Berti went to Waterloo, to the Wedding mass of Martha Schilling 24 & Joe Neary 28, the attendants cousins to the bride, Omer Schilling & Olivia Paulter girl; high mass; she wore white with veil & bridesmaid, blue driss [sic] with white hat & shoes, gloves; the groom & his attendant wore dark blue suits; the wedding breakfast & dinner was served at the home of the bride: parents; the young couple will make there home in St. Louis; were the groom is employed. Henry came up, had dinner here, him & papa; went out looking for horses; all day, down at Chris Buehler’s this morn. The people are again recieving [sic] checks on 5% payment from the bank; the next will be 10%; ours came in the letter with Emil’s, he gave it to us this morning. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stopped awhile, then went to Buehler’s birthday there. There is free dance at Donahue’s, Oak Grove, Burksville tonight.

We finished digging potatoes. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this afternoon, she went along with us to Belleville, we got new winter hats. Mr. Jake Cole stopped in. Mr. Herman Geodelle of Waterloo died. Miss Adele Crowe gave a surprize [sic] bridal shower for Miss Olga Bozzy who is to wed Mr. John Schauer of St. Joseph Mo. soon, Miss Magaret May won first prize in bunco. We went to Donahue’s free dance this evening, Carlos Entainers [sic], crowd wasnt so hot, but boy the fish was swell. Oak Grove has theres tomorrow nite.

Went to church, Catheral [sic] Belleville at 5:30 mass. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had dinner with us, spring chicken. Loyd Pabst was here, said they were going to thresh tomorrow. There was a boy 14 yrs. old from Iowa, visiting Ed Rehling’s, was killed instantly, when riding on a byicicle [sic] coming out Rehlings road, onto the hard road, Shloemer Ford Motor man of Waterloo, was coming down the road, & hit him, & upset his car & was hurt somewhat. The Rehling’s were visiting relatives at Waterloo at the time it happened; the first accident on the new hard road. Turner Pinic [sic] in Smithon [sic] today. Mr. Herman Wolf of Red Bud is having a free dance at Oak Grove tonite, Moonlighters playing. We went, & what a crowd, had nice time. Eggs are 9¢, wheat 80¢.

Papa got crushing done. We went to Belleville this afternoon, got white shoes; coming home by Lipperts our car started in to knock, connecting rod burned out I guess. Hugo Probst pulled us home, to the shed, he is going to get the car Mon. & repair it. Leona brought the boy’s up to stay with papa, we went along with them to Donahue’s free anniversary dance, Keohler’s Orchestra, large crowd, Oak Grove wasn’t much, few cars, popeye didn’t come, they said, Blossom City Boys played. It rained a little & wind. In north St. Louis, it stormed, 7,000 bales cotton was destroyed through fire. In Minnesota, were it was so dry, they had snow several inches.

Memorial Day. The Hecker Y.P.L. having outing today Corveur Lake, Mo. Yesterday the children & sisters of Catholic School had there outing at Fort Chartres. Klein’s, Griffin’s, Braun’s, trucks & I. Helfrich’s car. Bert Thompson & Ed. Meng came to take a look at the barn. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were at the school pinic [sic] in Waterloo, this afternoon, came up here this eve. went to the dance at Oak Grove, Leona brought the kids up to stay with papa, & we went along with them to Oak Grove, free dance, musci [sic] by Jolly Six, Schmidts – Oh! Boy! Crowd. Clara Wagner & the kids came over awhile this evening; Rosalia & Berti went to Red Bud after chick mash. A man here bought 7 doz. eggs @ 12¢. There were niggers at Henry’s today.
