We planted potatoes. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary made garden up here today. We went to Belleville got spring hats, etc. Aunt Mary went to lent service tonight. Mr. & Mrs. Killiam Marquadt have a baby girl born, now have 3 children. Charles & Bernice Wagner are still in with cold & fever, but are getting better. Mr. Wm. Fritsche while riding a bycicle [sic] last Sun. evening fell of [sic] & fractured his tumbh [sic], pretty bad. Papa & Rose went out to Henry’s got mule, harrowed the oats in.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had dinner here, him & papa went to Waterloo this morning on business; this afternoon Uncle went home, got wheat, took it to Red Bud; Eggs here are 18 & 20½¢. Rob. Laut took a chance on a quilt to be raffled at the Euchre on Mar. 5, Catholic. Mr. & Mrs. Walter Wittenauer have a baby girl Alice. Fire man euchre Sun.

The old guy what sharpenes [sic], etc is back in town again, was here today, papa gave the cross cut saw to sharpen for 35¢. A guy here wanted to sell auto paint, $2.00 box. Bernice Wagner got 1 doz eggs. Roy Staufenbiel had there little baby girl christened last Sun, called it Pearl Louisa, Mr. Joe & Pearl Griffin as sponsors. Mr. & Mrs. Leo Wittenauer of St. Louis have a baby girl. The Frantz Baker truck of New Athens, Edgar Wittenauer in charge had an accident on the Baldwin road, & damaged somewhat.

Henry & Leona & Emil, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary all helped butcher, finished today, killed two made summer sausage; weighed 250 & 215 lb. hogs. It rained a little last night & morning. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went home this evening. Mrs. William Klotz is on the sick list, & pretty bad. Roy Staufenbiel’s have a baby girl born Sun. Eckert doctor.

Papa hauled wood, this afternoon got a load wheat to crush. Berti cleaned house, baked molasses cookies. Mr. & Mrs. Quentin Schroeder have a baby girl born Sun. morning at St. Mary’s Hospital, first born, Henry Schroeder grandparents & also Frank Rau, Hey. Schroeder soda factory man at Waterloo. The two story farm house of Paul Crook on his farm near Burksville was burned to the ground Tues. morning starting at 9:30, & spread so fast nothing could be saved, only the clothes what they had on, no furniture & nothing.

Fried down bacon & sausage; patched, ironed. Bertie went to dentist, he couldn’t finish it yet; forgot root canal filling. Went out to Henry’s took boys clothes along. Leona came home this afternoon. Rosalia stayed out. She took the boys to school this morning & delivered some cold tablets to Cleveland’s; stopped by Henrys awhile. A beautiful day, warm. Emils birthday 51 yrs. old today. Mr. & Mrs. Arthur Bestmann, nee Geodelle have a baby girl Mon. night, first.

Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s got load corn. Rose & Berti went to the dentist this afternoon. Ralph Collier gave us a short call; we baked cookies, cleaned & washed curtains, windows. Mr. Herbert Hill’s have a baby daughter born last Fri. at the hospital in E. St. Louis, first; she was formerly Miss Pearl Fisher.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed awhile. George Wagner got 1 doz. eggs @ 30¢ here. Mr & Mrs. Leonard Mertz have a baby boy, Thurs. 22. Mr. & Mrs. Herman Goessling had there baby christened at Red Bud church today. Mrs. Susan Wagner is being buried this afternoon at Belleville. We went out, stopped at Henry’s a short while, then went to the free wedding dance at Guerscheminer & Whiel, Jake Wiehl’s daughter, at Paulters Hall. Moonlighters played, & Oh! Boy what a crowd. Some camp guys got to fighting in the hall, but was taken downstairs, then later put in jail yet, 2 of them; were feeling pretty happy also.

Started fire in furnace. Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s got wheat for crushing, Mr. & Mrs. Harold Hellmer of Waterloo, are the parents of a 7½ lb. baby girl born last Wed. The Paderborn fighters had a trial at Belleville this morning, the case was settled between themselves, Edwin Neff & Leo & Wiefred Cortner & August Schaefer & Jake Orlet, the Cortners said, they will not go to Paderborn & Neff neithers, he was employed at Evansville now. Edwin Neff struck a boy at Main St. this morning, with the car, the boy wasn’t hurt, & his name was not given.

Rained a little, still south wind & warm. Bertie baked cookies, made chicken dinner. Henry & Leona went to Belleville, Billy stayed here; all they had dinner here. Mrs. Phily Kammler, nee Nancy Kutis) was buried yesterday afternoon. Stehfests Cemetery. It was in this evenings paper that Mr. & Mrs. Leo Watchel of Paderborn, have a 7½ lb. daughter born at there home Mon; yesterday. she was formerly Ruth Krehrer, that makes Mr. & Mrs. Pete Watchel of Smithon [sic] grand parents, first time. Beautiful evening.
