The old guy what sharpenes [sic], etc is back in town again, was here today, papa gave the cross cut saw to sharpen for 35¢. A guy here wanted to sell auto paint, $2.00 box. Bernice Wagner got 1 doz eggs. Roy Staufenbiel had there little baby girl christened last Sun, called it Pearl Louisa, Mr. Joe & Pearl Griffin as sponsors. Mr. & Mrs. Leo Wittenauer of St. Louis have a baby girl. The Frantz Baker truck of New Athens, Edgar Wittenauer in charge had an accident on the Baldwin road, & damaged somewhat.

Tuesday, Feb. 27, 1934

We ironed, & patched; this morning; cleaned chicken house, hauled it out on 1 horse sleigh. Oh Boy, what a sleigh ride we had. The saw sharpener man brought our saws, lawn mower, scissor, all back today, everything OK, all for 85¢. We sewed quilt patches. Hogs are down again today to top $4.75, yesterday $5. eggs 14 ½¢ in paper; yesterday 15¢. Sun is shining nice, but it isn’t warm.

Monday, Feb. 26, 1934

We washed. Papa took saws to a man in jail here, to sharpen, he is awful good at it, they say. Pap is shoveling snow in the cistern over 100. We mailed a money order $2.23 for tax on meat sold in Jan. that is the last time. We got a can Tom Boy milk & made ½ gal. ice cream this evening. The saw sharpener man, came down this afternoon looked at our lawn mowers, took one along back with him to fix it up; also our scissors.
