Rosalia & Berti went to Red Bud church, had 8th grade graduation, during Mass. 4 girls, Catherine May, Evelyn Bendict, Rita Roscow, Mary Iva AuBuchon; all dressed in white, carring [sic] flowers, 2 flower girls. 6 boys, Cletus Helfrich, Ratz, Roscow, Hartmann. Thirtheen [sic] made there solmmen [sic] coummioun [sic] in Hecker, this morning. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stoped [sic] awhile after church, went home, came back this afternoon, went to Red Bud to band convention, 200 muscians [sic], 10 band. Steve Rennecker came over awhile; we walked up to see Mamie, but she had a date with Clem Parker, se we came home again, the 4 h club girls are giving a dance in Kammler’s Hall, Holloywood [sic] Orch. Belleville playing Adm. 25¢.

It is in the Waterloo paper that infant son of Mr. John Eshmann Jr. nee Schaefer died on May 19 aged 2 mos. 13 das. Mr. & Mrs. Frank Hoffman nee Bozzay have a little baby girl born May 16 Wed; at there home near Tiptown. Alias Siedle have a girl born last Fri. 18 May. Twenty years ago eggs were quoted at 17½¢, wheat 90¢ & corn 82¢. Miss Ruth Collier who is attending school in St. Louis spent the weekend with her parents in Waterloo, Mr. & Mrs. Ralph Collier. Ed. Wittenauer purchased the home place were he lives from the late Margaret Wittenauer estate heirs, for $3600.00. Henry Acker purchased the old Acker farm last week & is now liming it. Hecker baseball team won last Sun at Floraville 11 to 4 next Sun play New Athens here. Elmer Kammler & local barber went to Hoyleton Ill. to cut the orphan children’s hair. The quilt that was raffled at the childrens program, Thurs. nite was won by Cecelia Pour; store clerk; at Eichenseers. We went to Donahue’s free dance, musci [sic] by Blossom City boys; Henry had dinner & lunch here, he cut his hay & weeds here.

We washed, hung in basement. Oh! Boy! is it raining, all nite & all day, surely is fine. Mrs. William Klotz is very bad sick, heart trouble. Henry & family came for supper, get tomato plants. Papa took eggs up, got 13¢. Lester Braun’s when going home from work, slipped, & hit the culpirt [sic-culvert], down the road, by Braun’s, he had heard something & looked around, his machine is damaged, the fender is hanging on the tire, Eichenseer’s truck pulled him in; to the garage to get repaired. David Hardy 90 yrs. old died Sat; prominet [sic] land dealer, in & around the vicinty [sic] of Waterloo.

Papa & Rose went up to straw potatoes had a blowout. Cool this morning; they had dinner at Henry’s. Pap is hauling lumber home, from Schilling’s. We cleaned basement this afternoon. Papa took Henry’s team home, & we went out to get him; stayed awhile. Eggs are still 13¢. Pete Myerscough of Ruma had a accident in Hecker, by Eichenseers corner yesterday about 4 o clock, smashed telephone post, & iron post & stopp [sic] sign. There were 2 ladies with him, one was driving, she didn’t no [sic] she was suppose to turn the corner there, & turned to short, smashed things down, no one was hurt, the machine pumber [?] was smashed in all the damage that was done; on the car.

We planted the rest of our potatoes today. George Wagner came & got the mule & plow, to work his patch up. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, Rose & Bertie went along to the card party in St. Augustine’s School Hall; pretty large attendance. Berti had 2 points & Rose had 4, so we got nothing, Uncle Fred had 10 got a broom. Some nice prizes they had. Mr. Judge Scheinder Waterloo had 11 points won first prize, got bucket & quilt top; & Clem Parker won attendance prize, a krinkle bed spread. Mamie came this morning, Rose set her hair. The lumber man & Ike Napier were here, talk roofing, from New Athens.

We cooked kettle soap. Papa went out too Uncle Fred also to Waterloo on business. The baseball club is giving a dance in Waterloo barn tonight, All Buchon’s band. Mr. Marshall Hill of Smithon [sic] have a little baby girl born, at the hospital at 3 o’clock this morning. Papa had dinner out at Uncle Freds. Robert Laut was here, wanted pap to vote for him, school election today, he is running for director. Clarence Wittenauer came to see papa about ball grounds, wether [sic] it was rented or not. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, made garden up here. Ted Eichenseer came down electioneering, him & Lester Gregson are running for town clerk to be next Tues. Robert Laut 30 votes won for school director, Wm Weigand 10 votes was running against him. Thresher boss meeting at Belleville this afternoon. Planted potatoes, at the Irish road.

Robert Laut & Joe Watchel got Rob’s hog this morning, took it to Eichenseers got it weighed 439 lbs. We went in the woods all day. This evening planted onions sets, radishes, lettuce in garden. It is in the paper that Lester Bruns & Melissa Weigand will be married Easter Monday & that he bought some land from Levi Gregson. Pete Gardener Sr. Undertaker of Belleville died last night, got sick Mon. evening with a cold & it turned to pneoumina [sic], had heart stroke & died, will be buried Mon. afternoon on account St. Joseph’s Day, no funeral, to St. Luke’s Church Bellville [sic]. Mass will be said.

Snowed last night. We made ice cream this morn. Rosalia took eggs up got shipstuff got 15¢ for eggs at Eichenseer’s. We got cheese again from Mertz. The Y.P.L. are having a euchre in Kammlers Hall tonite; not a very big crowd, I don’t imagine, we didn’t go. George Wagner was here, says he will butcher Sat. if weather permits.
