Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up to pump the water out of there cellar, he made a hole in the kitchen floor to put the pipe on the pump down, he has it all out now. They had lunch here with us. There was a boy here wanted some votes to become a doctor, he had 47 more votes to get, he has to have 2,000 & then he get $500.00 bonus to study, you buy a book or magazine, & it has so many votes, from 1 to 8 vote, that’s the highest, he said Fr. Grootens gave him 7 & Sister Superior, Lela Deuker, that is all he mentioned. We didn’t take none. The butcher Sethl from Smithton was here & looked at our hogs, they are only 5.45 he said. Clara Wagner gave us some flowers to plant out, touch-me-nots. Eggs are 13¢.

We cleaned our stove, Kitchen, basement today. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here for lunch this afternoon this evening, we & Henry’s family went out there, we had pop corn. We planted out flowers today, & gave some to Clara Wagner, Mamie, Leona, Aunt Mary. Uncle Fred’s sewer is blocked up in there house across the street the basement has water in it. Papa went to Smithton & Belleville, to see about selling price on hogs.

Today is Holiday. We all went to Waterloo this afternoon, we went out to the clump [dump?] pile, but they haven’t got it gathered up yet in town. From there we went around Red Bud home, we stopped in at Caldwell’s House, & at the place where Bozzay lived. We stopped at Red Bud, Papa went to talk with the butcher, & we where talking with Levi Gregson’s family. Bill was here for supper, in the evening we went along to Waterloo, to get Creses, then went out to Coxey to Greatling’s Hall, Mrs. Pete Keim celebrated her birthday there. Henry & family, Uncle Fred, Aunt Mary, Papa went to the show, this evening. Bernice Wagner got the beads, & Ruth Braun the perfume for singing Springtime in the Rockies, Niece Rausch, & another girl each got 25¢. Mrs. Estelle Stovall got the perfume & Bobby set for calling the loudest for her Husband. Wilfred Eichenseer got the cigarette case, he got the most cheers. Leslie Raush also was in that but didn’t get anything. The name of there play was “Crazy Sister.”

I seen in the paper that Fritzie Boo had his leg taken off now, & is getting along nicely. Martin Schilling’s have a little baby girl, they now have 2 boy’s & 2 girls. Papa went down to the truck patch & planted pickle seed, he was over by Louis Armstutz’s a little while he called him over there. Rosalia & Bertille went to the Jackson’s show tonight, & the people there, it was sure a crowd, most of them with there parked cars, they sold soap, medicine, & candy, it had slips in the boxes, Harold Wagner had one with it he got a big Indian Blanket, Rosalia [Rosalie?] Braun, Meba Hepp got teaspoons, Henry Bruns a mirrow, & many others received prizes. They played the show “Crazy House” it was good. They also gave free attendance thickes [tickets] out, we got 3 of them, chances to win a blanket.

We are going to wash quilts today. Leona & the kids came up. They where here for lunch & dinner. We washed in all 12 quilts, & front room curtains, & table scarfs, & also washed windows, & cleaned the front room. Papa & the boy’s & Clifford where picking up rocks in the chicken yard & put them on the truck & hauled them on the road. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this afternoon, she went to the play in the school hall given by the children, there wasn’t many there, about 12 people, it is to be tonight again, but it is raining all the time. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here for lunch, she went over to George Wagner’s a while. Tonight they want to go to Ike Napiers, it is Dorothy’s bithday & they are giving a dance party. They didn’t go account of rain. Mr. Jackson a medicine show man was here to see Papa, if he could stage a show on our ground by the highway for a week but Papa told him no. So they are going to have it on the School grounds beginning tomorrow evening. They have no tent just seats. Mr. Peter Dehn died Mon. evening at 7 & will be buried Thurs. afternoon in Red Bud cemetery. He was 86 yrs. old & sick about a year, most of the time in bed. Mrs. Philip Lehr was buried this morning in Red Bud.

Papa & Rosalia went out too Henry’s, she helped Leona clean her front room, they were there for lunch & dinner. Papa went to see Uncle Adam is isn’t feeling well, has cold. Katie Klotz was here & wanted to get about 8 settings of white eggs, but we didn’t have none for sale, so she couldn’t get none. Wm. Sensel was here & wanted to see Papa, but he was at Henry’s, so he went there. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this eve, & Rosalia & Bertille went along with them too the dance down at the Brick House, given by the Horse Creek Ramblers. Adm. Gents 25, ladies 15¢. They sure did have a crowd. The Hecker baseball club announced a dance for May 6 music furnished by the Horse Creek Rambler, & they are going to give one again the 13 & Emery’s one on the 16 of May. The town board has meeting at George Wagners to-night. Our 8 little pigs where born Apr. 26 Sun.

Henry & kids came up this afternoon. Henry went out to see Ignatz Neff’s cream seperator. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came too. Uncle Fred stayed here with the kids & the rest of us went to Belleville & got spring hats. Steve Rennecker was here & wanted to know if they could get setting eggs, they want 1 of each kind, so this evening she came over & got them for 15¢ a doz. Mr. Hill called a telephone meeting here this evening, he & Mr. & Mrs. Rennecker, George Wagner were the only one present. The next meeting was adjourned until July by H. M. Hill. Fr. Grootens was here a little while this evening.

We all went out to Henry’s. We took dinner along out, Uncle Joe, Uncle Fred, they came down for dinner. We helped Leona with the garden, we made the paths & sewed onions, planted 3 rows potatoes, lettuce, carrots. Aunt Mary, Rosalia, Bertille took Uncle Fred’s machine & drove over there first & Aunt Mary got her coat, & hat, so she could go to church this evening. Then we drove back home, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here for supper, afterwards we went to church. Aunt Mary & Bertille were over at George Wagner’s a little while. Today is just 6 years ago of the Murphysboro cyclone. Ralph Ettling was here this evening. Martha Boll is home now, she has a bad cold.

Papa went out for a trip today. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this afternoon, they are going to plant some potatoes on their place across the street. It sure is nice today. George Wagner was here this evening & wanted to know if he could get water from Uncle Fred’s well for butchering tomorrow.
