Pap went to Red Bud. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary went down this afternoon, Mrs. Lester Gregson & son & Mrs. Con. Myerscough & daughter were there this afternoon. We went to Belleville. Leo & Bert [Bertille] went to Red Bud; this eve. Bert [Bertille] stayed all nite. Leo went home.

Friday, May 13, 1938

Bert [Bertille] went to mass & pap came down got Bert, & went back again this afternoon. Bert [Bertille] went out to Henry’s washed Rosalia’s wash there & ironed,; cloudy & cooler today. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up. Leo came & Leona went to Red Bud Leona stayed; came early home in morning. Pretty cold tonite, but not freezing.

Thursday, May 12, 1938

Cloudy this morn. Pap went to Shields look at pigs. bought 3 – $5 a piece. Raining nearly all day. Bert [Bertille] went to Red Bud mass; stayed till 11 o’clock. Leona went down this afternoon. We went up to Leo’s, cleaning, had supper there. Bert [Bertille] went long down with Leo, to Red Bud stayed all nite. Geo. Wiegands have baby at Belleville hospital. The rooms are all filled in Red Bud Hospital now.

Monday, May 9, 1938

Leona came, went along to Red Bud with us, went to Mass then to hospital Rose [Rosalia] is pretty good. Pap stayed rest of us went home; had dinner here. Bert [Bertille] took Leo home his dad is out there. Bert washed, this afternoon. We took Rose some flowers along. Leo & Rose went to Red Bud, Bert stayed all nite & Leo & pap went home.

Sunday, May 8, 1938

Mother’s Day. We went to Paderborn mass, then to Leo’s, doctor Eckert was there, since 6 last nite; at 11:30 took her [Rosalia] in an ambulance Dashner’s, to Red Bud hospital were Doc. Pautler brought a baby girl, 8 lbs. & 6 oz. nice big girl, bright, dark eyes, dark hair. Leo & Leona & pap went along down. Henry & boy’s came here had dinner, we went down this afternoon. Leo stayed all nite; Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came here. Bill [Klein] & Bert [Bertille] went to Paderborn May devotion at church. It is also Josie Gregson’s birthday today. KMOX Radio Stars having a dance here at Kammlers tonite.

Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1937

Foggy day again. Bert [Bertille] washed. Emil came over awhile this morn. Pap & him walked up to Frank Emery’s funeral this afternoon 2 o’clock services at house; then to city cemetery, he was 63 yrs. of age. had been ruptured some time ago; Pallbearers were Vic Eichenseer, Jac. Neff, Steve Rennecker, Oscar Klotz, Adolph Lother, Bill Fritsche. Wagner boy’s came got 4 doz. eggs for Mehrmann 25 [cents] today. Mrs. Bill Kaiser was taken to hospital in ambulance yesterday, double pneumonia, for 6 days; had Dr. Frein & nurse out yesterday also. Mr. Martin Fritsche here in town also has double pneumonia; so much sickness around & real weather for it to. Miss Kate McDermott who was making her home in St. Louis past while, suffered stroke Sun. morn, was taken to Red Bud hospital, were there she died, will be buried tomorrow morn, at Tipton church & cemetery at Koch [? – unclear]. Wagner’s family came this eve; we play 7 games pinochle, ladies winning every game.

Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1937

Rabbit season opened today, hunters are out, & will be tomorrow holiday Armistice Day. Pap went out on business trip. Stehl was here. Emil came this afternoon finished his visit from last nite. Bert [Bertille] ironed, patched, etc. Cloudy this eve. radio says rain tonite. Mrs. Wil Gregson died this morn. 5 o’clock at Red Bud hospital, ailing for quite some time; will be buried at Round Praire [sic] Cemetery nee Frick.

Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1937

Washed, ironed, canned peaches. A man here collecting for poor people. Mr. James Tobin & Leona Vogt getting married this morn. at Red Bud 8:30 high mass; dance at Oak Grove tonite, only daughter of Bill Vogt. South of Red Bud. Catholics here have card & lawn party tonite at School grounds. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came, we all went to social, didn’t win nothing; Uncle had 7 got dresser scarf; played 12 games & couple games of each bingo, had cake walk, 15 cakes @ $1.25. Uncle Fred had to play accordion for cake walk; not much of crowd about 8 tables euchre, 1 pinochle, 1 solo. Mrs. Emmet Cowell while on her way to attend the wedding Mass this morn. was struck by auto. Leifer of south Red Bud, she also had with her a girl, who was also hit, had few teeth knocked out, & Mrs. has leg broken, side all bruised, were car had drug her about 30 ft. they say; is in Red Bud hospital, hurt pretty bad.

Cloudy little shower this morn. Went to Belleville to dentist, church & shopping this afternoon; seen a man about 10 or 12 ft. hight walking the streets, adv. Rex Theathre [sic], & girl dancing on a Pontiac top; adv. pontiac cars. Fr. Stern passed away yesterday afternoon, Red Bud hospital; Leo & Rose came down, brought the horse back; Henry & family also came.

Raining a little Pap went out with buggy & horse on a trip down to Bert Thompson’s. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came took Bert along, went up to see Leo & Rose awhile, Hennrick of Walsh was there & got a cow, & brought a different one, but they didn’t like it. One of the Divian’s twin babies died at the Red Bud hospital; I seen in the paper, isn’t so much news this week, Winnie Ganley & husband transfer of $1. to Geo Schilling. Mr. Jerome Meng is be sow accessor this year & Ed. Frisch at Henry’s. Thunder tonite & raining.
