Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came & then we all went up to George Neff’s funeral, his brother’s & sister’s weren’t all here. It was a large funeral. Querheim had the burial. During the Show week last, they had baby & lady contests. Bill Fristch’s baby got first prize a ring & Pete Watchel’s second a ring. The ladies first Lucille Rausch & second Eunice Scheinder both a ring. Henry & the boy’s where here with the wagon, he brought a sow pig up here. Papa went down to the Molasses Factory & got the 2 gal. crock, this evening Steve stopped & said he could fill the 4 gals. so papa took it & him down in the car, & brought it back again. Tonight is a dance at the brick house, the baseball team is giving it.
Saturday, Oct. 3, 1931
Today, Mrs. Val Fritsche of E. St. Louis is having sale on the Fritsche farm about 2½ mils [sic] from Hecker, where Joe. Herzog now lives. Also Leo Skaer of Millstadt is having sale, he lives on the Julius Stentcel farm, sale to start at 9 o clock. We all went there. Bertille rode along with Uncle Fred. They had the dinner along, we left there about 4 clock, didnt’ get anything, they had so much to sell.

We & Aunt Mary went to Belleville today, papa had to testify to Grandpa’s handwriting on Fristche’s will. We had dinner in there, there lawyer was to be there at 10 & didn’t come before 1:30. Mrs. Stauenfbiel came along back with us. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary ate lunch here. Papa went up town this evening. Wheat is 39¢.
Thursday, Sept. 10, 1931
Mrs. William Braun, nee Schilling will be buried today, leaving the house at 8:30, church at 9, then to the cemetery. She was 35 yrs. old & has 7 children living & 4 dead. Henry & Leona, Aunt Mary, Rosalia & Bertille all went to the funeral it was a large one, we went to the house, church, cemetery. Fr. Janssen of Smithon [sic] had the ceremony, he had a wedding in the home first, Frank Kroll got married. Fr. Grooten is awful bad sick with nervous breakdown. Papa took care of the kids this morn. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here for dinner. All the Schillings where out today, Jonny, Sam, Gabriel, Martin, Joe, & George, all at the funeral, Degenhardts, Natz, Mosbacher 1 daughters.
Uncle Fred & Papa went to help Roy Staunfbiel get his father’s coping from the cemetery this afternoon. Mrs. Stauenfbiel was here to see if she could get a ride home from Belleville on the 15 of Sept. She & papa have to go in to be witness on Val. Fristche’s will, to snigfy [sic] there writing. The egg man was here again from St. Louis, but we didn’t have any. Henry & family where up this evening, he paid his threshing bill.

Papa went after his pig from Ganley’s, he also went to see Martin Doyle’s. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had lunch here with us, then we all went to the sale, Bertille rode along with them in there car, to 2 miles from Evansville, Schulin’s sale the people that got shot that time. Aunt Mary bought a few articles, butter dish, glasses, bowl, table scarf, & bed spread, it all brought a nice price, just everything was sold so much. Alfred Eckert & Clarence Wagner, was here & sold us one chances of the quilts for the picnic. Hy. Armstutz & Liddie Birkner’s husband Ralph where here & got 3 doz eggs from us, she & him are out at Armstutz’s cooking peach butter today, he has vacation, yesterday they where at Springfield fair. Mrs. Val Fritsche called up & said that grandpa was witness when Mr. made his will so papa has to go to Belleville on the 15 Sept. to tell wether it is his handwriting. This evening we all went to Christ Buehler’s, Cletus birthday, we gave them 5¢ candy, Frank’s family & Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where there.

Papa is plowing again today. Ed Meng was over a little while. There was a man around selling moth & insect killing, it is something like moth balls, we bought a card for 25¢. Valentine Fritche of East St. Louis who was in a accident on July 30 on Smithon [sic] & Hecker road died and will be buried Thurs. afternoon at 3 o clock to the Mt. Hope Cemetery. He is 70 yrs. old & had 5 ribs bones broken & hip bone. Hy. Armstutz was here this eve, a little while. Ed Meng & Clifford was here, they brought a gray horse over & took the boy home, they said Nick Schefer bought it & they where going to take it out there. Today is Weyhaupt sale by Smithon [sic].

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here for pie lunch this morn. After mass this morn – the chances were raffled from the Pinic [sic], Tom Havey won the stove, Mrs. Hy S. Braun won the tea set, Lester Miller won a quilt, Uncle Joe won something too. There was 5 articles raffled out. This afternoon we all went out to Henry’s, he was up for church this morn – then went home & started cutting wheat again, Gus Geodell’s was out too, he was sitting on the binder. We helped to bake dewberry pie. Then it started in a raining & we went home. George Wagners have lots of company today, it is Charles Birthday he is 4 yrs. old. The Merhmans, Fritsche’s, Ettlings, Kammlers where all there. It is a real lawn party.

Papa is going to take the truck to Bill Fristche’s & get the bor fixed on it. We are washing today. Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s & got the last load of corn. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here for lunch. Papa, Rosalia, Bertille, Aunt Mary went down & cleaned the cemetery this evening. There where 2 weddings last Sat. from Hecker, Harold Dueker married a girl from St. Louis, & Edwin Reheis married Florence Voges.
Monday, April 13, 1931
Papa went to Freeburg this morning to see about some wire, he brought some along home. He was at New Athens too. We washed, ironed, patched, baked bread & coffee cake today. This afternoon Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here, he helped Papa fix fence, & Rosalia started her dress. Fredrick Fritsche was here & got 2 setting of egg for 15¢, store price. It started to rain this evening.
Saturday, Jan. 17, 1931
It is raining a little this morning. Papa went up to see Fr. Grootens a little while & had a conversation with him. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here this morn. they stayed for dinner & then they went through Red Bud to Waterloo & then back here again, they were here for supper, after that we played a 4 handed pinochle game, 4 games were played each winning 2 games. Fredie Fritsche was here and wanted to sell seeds for the school. Today was election for telephone operator, Eliza Boll received it again. Mrs. Deuker & Jake Neff had applied for it too. Deukers had 2 votes, Neff 7 votes, Eliza 3 votes. Today is George Boll’s birthday, Karl is sick ever since last Wednesday, he has awful high fever.
