Monday, June 15, 1931

Papa went out to Henry’s this morning.  He had intended to start cutting wheat today, this afternoon.  Papa is on the sick list he has a stiff neck.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this evening.  Henry & family where here Sun. night but we weren’t at home.  Eggs are still 12¢.  We washed, ironed, patched today.

Sunday, June 14, 1931

Today is Pinic [sic] in Floraville & one at the Round Prarie [sic] Church, on the hill.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed at Hecker all night, ready for church this morning.  We where at there place for dinner & lunch.  Hy. Armstutz stopped when he came home from the ball game.  Ben Rausch stopped & invited us all to come to the barn dance tonight at Webers, to surprize [sic] him on his birthday.  So we all went, it was mostly all old people there.  Sthiel & Herzog furnished musci [sic].  Papa & Rosalia went to Waterloo Church this morning, we went to Hecker, it was out in a hurry, no sermon & low mass, because he tought [sic – thought] the people where tired from the pinic [sic].

Saturday, June 13, 1931

Today is Catholic Church Picnic, nice day.  Rosalia & Bertille went up a little while in the evening.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here.  Henry & family came – they left the kids with Papa & they went to the pinic [sic] too.  It turned out to be a big crowd, someone said they sold 300 supper thickets [sic].  He had the victrola & radio agoing that’s all the musci [sic] they had.  There where mostly all strange people there, from St. Louis, Belleville, & all over.  The auction the pies & cakes out, some brought 10-15-20-55¢ & Aunt Mary bought one before that & paid 30 for Whiter & a piece or two Sunshine.  Papa went along out to Schulz’s with Eichenseer’s to help set up a binder.  Odillo said he was going to St. Louis tonight, to a party.

It is raining this morning a little.  Bertille went to church.  This afternoon we all went out to Henry’s & helped him hoe weeds out of the corn patch, we had lunch there.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here this evening.  Rosalia & Bertille went to church.

Ed Parker has poster’s, up for his big new barn dance tonight.  We went out & the crowd that was there, some said 300, & others said 500 people upstairs, it sure was crowded.  People from all over, Evansville, Smithton, Waterloo, St. Louis, from everywhere.  There was a man here today selling fruit again, we send him off.  Papa went out to Henry’s to get a load of posts.  Eggs are still 12¢ yet.

Wednesday, June 10, 1931

We sure did have some rain last night.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary was here for lunch this afternoon then her, & Bertille went over to Ed. Meng’s, took them some flower, & brought some of there’s back.  Mrs. Rennecker canned 41 qts. of cherries, she still has a few on the tree yet.  Papa is setting posts today.  Jac. Helfrich & his wife where injured in an automobile accident in Belleville the other day.  Mr. Laut & Stuart where talking to Papa in the field this afternoon, Mr. Hill & Meng also.  Mr. Klinkhardt from St. Louis is out visiting in Hecker by Mrs. Pour.  Mr. Hill & him & others where playing pinoche at Griffins this morning & this afternoon.  Her is leaving with bus this evening.

Tuesday, June 9, 1931

Papa is going to take the truck to Bill Fristche’s & get the bor fixed on it.  We are washing today.  Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s & got the last load of corn.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here for lunch.  Papa, Rosalia, Bertille, Aunt Mary went down & cleaned the cemetery this evening.  There where 2 weddings last Sat. from Hecker, Harold Dueker married a girl from St. Louis, & Edwin Reheis married Florence Voges.

Monday, June 8, 1931

We all went working in the truck patch this morn.  Hy. Armstutz came there a while.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up to pick cherry’s – we helped to clean them, she gave us 2 qts & a pt. she still had 9 qts. for herself yet.  This evening we helped them work in there popcorn patch.  The Farm Bureau has a moving picture show in Pautler’s farm tonight.

Sunday, June 7, 1931

Papa & Rosalia went to Red Bud church this morning.  Bertille went to Hecker, there where 8 children, 4 boy’s & 4 girls made there Solemn Holy Com. this morn. – & also some made there first Holy Com.  This afternoon the 8th graders received there diploma.  We all had dinner, beef soup by Uncle Freds, across the street today.  This afternoon Uncle Adam & Emil came & Bill Freund for lunch, Frank Dudenhoeffer & Mr. Woodruft, Gusta’s nephew.  They where at the pinic [sic], the Evangelicals had cold supper & pinic [sic] today, we where there a while.  Fr. Grooten or congregation gave a quilt for them to raffle in Bluey, Elmer Kammler’s wife won it.  The Wedding quilt was won by Oliver Birkner.  It was to cold for pinci [sic- picnic] today.  Papa took care of the kids, when Henry & Leona came up, they went to the pinci [sic] awhile too.  Rheinhardt furnished the musci [sic] till 7 o’clock.

Saturday, June 6, 1931

Papa went to get crushing done again this morn, the last time they crush before harvest.  We sprayed our potatoes today.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came here, from here they went to Collins Sale at Red Bud, they bought a rocking chair, & a wood box.  We went to Belleville & looked at a horse, then we went out to Kerber’s sale, it wasn’t much of a sale.  It rained this afternoon by Belleville.  Rittmeyer where to have a barn dance tonight but it was post poned until tomorrow night.
