Went out to Henry’s, took the boys along to school, butchered at Henry’s, at dinner time they called from Waterloo & said they have to take Leona to the hospital, took her over this afternoon at 1:30 so he left right away. Emil & Albert came helped finished, so we did all there feeding, got done pretty early; cleaned everything. Mrs. Geodelle called out said Leona stood the trip alright to the hospital; she won’t have to be operated on. Henry stayed over all night.

We went to Waterloo church, & then went to Gus Geodelle’s to see Leona, she is very weak, gets nothing to eat, not much; we brought Floyd along with us to. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed awhile. Henry came to get crushing this afternoon. Wilbert Geodelle is having a birthday dance at Pautlers tonite, musci [sic] by Rythm [sic] Kings. John Kaltwasser is being buried this afternoon at Stehfests cemetery, from Belleville; Eugene Ahern of Waterloo will be buried Tues. morn.
Sunday, Dec. 29, 1935
Went to Red Bud. Snowed all night; Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed awhile, finished the ice cream, that we made last night, but was to much, couldn’t eat it all yesterday, enough left for each a dish this morning. Steve Rennecker got 1 qt. milk wanted to make pumpkin pie today he said. We all went out to Uncle Freds had dinner & supper. Rob Knabe was out at Oscar’s from there he came here, so papa & Uncle Fred went home; papa sold the cow & calf to him for $65.00 to get it after the 1st. Fr. Aydt wasn’t at all satisfied this morning with the Christmas Collections, not enough; A Christmas party was held at the home of Henry Meyer at Belleville & there it was announced the engagement of Miss Dorthy Meyer to Odello Eichenseer of Here to be wed in the near future; she is employed at Endres Motor Sales Co. Mr. Karl Kammler 26 of Belleville & Mamie Roth 20 Mascoutah license were published, were married Christmas Day; at the Evangical [sic] Church in Mascoutah, the attendants being Alf. Kammler a brother & Anita Funk a cousin of the bride; the bride wore brown crepe dress & assessories [sic] to match, bridesmaids wore blue. going to make there home with the groom parents Mr. & Mrs. John Kammler of 712 Forest Ave; they also had the wedding supper there to which intimate friends & relatives were present. Mr. Fred Rothaug 38 – Miss Ida Bechtoldt 42 of Belleville, were married, she is Mrs. Geodelle’s cousin.

Cleaned hen house. Rose got the papers, ordered the license $18.78 this year. Whip was the same price $12.00 but chev. is only $6.50. We went to Ruma to Myerscoughs & Tiptown to Colemans, & Dugan’s to see about pigs. Mr. Mehrman got the eggs 31¢. Miss Lena Geodelle of Waterloo, Henry Geodelle’s daughter is at St. Marys Hospital for treatments. Dorthy Myerscough is attending Normal College; at Normal, Ill; is home for holidays. Florence goes to High School at Red Bud; Margret is still at the convent, & can’t come home for 2 years.
Thursday, Oct. 31, 1935
Halloween. Leona came & got the boy’s; they came home from the wedding, about 12 o’clock, Hilda’s dad didn’t come over; in the evening. Gus, Dan & Geo. Geodelle’s families were there, & Mrs. Susenwind & family were there all day; swell supper & beautiful cakes, 2 kegs beer. Started painting the houses, window frames today; Pap went to Red Bud got oil & things, chick feed. Walter & Hilda got 1 bedroom no kitchen, furniture from Querheim. Henry brought load corn. We went to Belleville. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up, she won a quilt last night, playing 1 gamelotto.
Thursday, Oct. 24, 1935
Papa went in the woods this morning. Henry brought a load corn; nice day, warm; Wheat sign up meeting at Kammlers Hall this morning; to fill application blanks. Armin Geodelle has a new ford card. V-8. Mr. Wolf real estate agent of Freeburg was here to see papa. We all went up in woods this afternoon, made wood. Hilda Klube is at Reheis’s since last Thurs; they are putting a new floor in part of house; Geo. Reheis is helping; Walter, Hilda & Annie, were up through town this afternoon; they are to be married on Oct. 30, Annie Birthday.

Papa worked in the woods. We made quilt patches. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, we all went to Pautler’s to Norma’s Geodelles & Otto Stadel wedding dance, & Boy! was it a crowd; she got a few presents, going to leave next Wed. for South Dakota. Moonlight Orch. played.
Monday, Oct. 21, 1935
Rained last nite, cloudy today, we washed, ironed; cleaned basement etc. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went to Belleville; came here brought a berry set along for us to give to Norma Geodelle’s wedding next Wed. Bernice got 1 doz. eggs. Rose cut herself a dress & sewed it this afternoon.

We baked bread & pie. Went butchering at Henry’s about 9 o clock, had dinner finished at 3:30; everything went good, about 250 lb. hog. its awful warm, have to fry things in, we took some; so Uncle Fred went there tonite to take some. Rain a little this morning. We all got weighed out there Floyd 51 – Rob 53. Billy [Willis] 30, Bertie 118 – Rose 163 – Leona – 122 & pap -165. Henry – 130. Bernice brought the mail. Eggs 25¢. Norma Geodelle – daughter of Jac Geodelle & Armin’s sister was married this afternoon to a fellow from South Dakota at the home of her parents, he worked for Roland Eichelmann, him [Roland] & his wife are the attendants, wedding dance next Wed. nite at Pautlers. Otto Stadel his name, he came 2 weeks ago here, they were corresponding for a long time, she says. Hy. Spalt & Katie Stallmann of Prairie du Long, to be married this afternoon we heard.
