Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1936

Cloudy this morn. but Sun shining now, getting cooler. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stopped here went to Waterloo to get wall papers. Vic Eichenseer came & got there radio again this afternoon, no trade yet. Mr. Odello Eichenseer & Dorthy Meyer are being married at Belleville at St. Threasa [sic] this morning; wedding dance at Daab’s Club House tonite, we are invited to attend; & we went. Schmidts Merry Makers played; her twin sister Doris & friend best & Mamie maid of honor, & Cyril; usher; wasn’t a very large crowd; drinks beer & cake free.

Sunday, Dec. 29, 1935

Went to Red Bud. Snowed all night; Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed awhile, finished the ice cream, that we made last night, but was to much, couldn’t eat it all yesterday, enough left for each a dish this morning. Steve Rennecker got 1 qt. milk wanted to make pumpkin pie today he said. We all went out to Uncle Freds had dinner & supper. Rob Knabe was out at Oscar’s from there he came here, so papa & Uncle Fred went home; papa sold the cow & calf to him for $65.00 to get it after the 1st. Fr. Aydt wasn’t at all satisfied this morning with the Christmas Collections, not enough; A Christmas party was held at the home of Henry Meyer at Belleville & there it was announced the engagement of Miss Dorthy Meyer to Odello Eichenseer of Here to be wed in the near future; she is employed at Endres Motor Sales Co. Mr. Karl Kammler 26 of Belleville & Mamie Roth 20 Mascoutah license were published, were married Christmas Day; at the Evangical [sic] Church in Mascoutah, the attendants being Alf. Kammler a brother & Anita Funk a cousin of the bride; the bride wore brown crepe dress & assessories [sic] to match, bridesmaids wore blue. going to make there home with the groom parents Mr. & Mrs. John Kammler of 712 Forest Ave; they also had the wedding supper there to which intimate friends & relatives were present. Mr. Fred Rothaug 38 – Miss Ida Bechtoldt 42 of Belleville, were married, she is Mrs. Geodelle’s cousin.

Friday, Jan. 26, 1934

Pap went to Hecker. Vic Eichenseer came & fixed our pump at the straw shed. the E. W. A. roadworkers started again today, only work 15 hrs. week. Seven were fired, & 4 new ones put on, they are Chas. Helfrich, Hy. Brown, Philip Jatho, Osie Neff put on, & those fired, where Robert Laut, Hecker & 2 guys from Waterloo. Meyer’s, Hy. Emery, Bill Sensel. Rosalia went after the mail. Pierre Laut was here yesterday evening, said we could come & help quilt this afternoon; Rosalia went; Mrs. Rennecker, Mrs. George Kammler were the quilters for today. It is sun burst quilt they had lunch. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up awhile this afternoon. We had cooked cheese from Mertz store, lb. Adam Eckert’s butter; all was good. This evening we went out to Uncle Freds, Aunt Mary’s 57 birthday, cake & orangeade was served to the following: Mrs. Oscar Birkners family, Frank Birkner’s family, Christ Buehler’s family, Wm. Birkner’s family, Miss Josie Keller, Pinochle & lotto was played by the kids, got prizes; Frieda got attendance prize again. Miss Josie spent the day by Lizzie Boll’s.

Friday, Jan. 13, 1933

Papa hauled 2 load of wood this morning. Henry brought a load of corn. Uncle Adam & Emil where doing business by H. M. Hill. Miss Magaret [sic – Margaret] McDermott called up & told us that Jac. Brand at Red Bud died & will be buried tomorrow morning at 9:30 to the Catholic Church & cemetery, we should tell Uncle Adam. We did all the cleaning today. Henry Meyer brought a load of corn, that papa bought from him, 26 bus. @ 17¢ $4.52.

Friday, Dec. 2, 1932

Papa got his hair cut & shave this morning. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up & went along with us to Belleville. It is in the Waterloo paper that Cornealia Petri 24 & Marcus Mentel 21 son of Henry Mentel where married on Thanksgiving Day & also John Heiken Jr. married Arline Meyer on the same day. The license of Frank Geschwender 23 & Mildred Becthloftt 20. Roy Stauenfbiel’s have a little baby boy since Nov. 30 they have 4 girls & 1 boy.
