Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s this afternoon. George Frisch from Lords Corner have a little baby boy 2 weeks old, they now have 2 children. Mamie & Clarence where here this eve.

Thursday, Dec. 3, 1931

Rosalia & Bertille went to Parkinson’s funeral. Odillo Eichenseer drove Jatho’s machine with the mourners. There where just the two daughters. It wasn’t a very large funeral. The priest went along out to the cemetery & buried him. The egg man paid 30¢ & took some saussage [sic] along with him. Joe Mueth of Belleville his home was raided, found, whiskey, beer, & wine. He is a cripple so they didn’t do much with him.

Friday, Nov. 6, 1931

Papa is hauling wood. We cleaned our gardens, dug up the Daliahs [sic]. Lena Meng was here awhile. Vic Eichenseer & a Purina man was here. It froze ice last night. I seen in the paper that infant paraylsis [sic] is a catching disease in Milstadt.

Sunday, November 1, 1931

We went to church at Waterloo this morn. Henry & family came up for dinner, he went around taking orders, to sell his beef. About 2’oclock they went home. Vic Eichenseer, & Mr. & Mrs. Aug. Stamm from Ellis Grove where here, he wants to buy land, they wanted to go Uncle Freds, we called them they didn’t answer, so from here they went to Freeburg to look at some. We drove to Stringtown, Burksville, St. Joe out to a place where they have all White Rock chickens, we are going to get brooster from there. This evening we drove out to Uncle Fred’s but they weren’t at home. Lizzie Boll had her birthday celebration today it is on the Nov. 3, about 22 where present, they had a big dinner of duck & roast pork.

Tuesday, Oct. 27, 1931

It is raining this morn.  Henry & family was here & brought the little meat grinder along, they brought a calf up to ship with Eichenseer.  We washed, ironed & patched today.  There where 4 men going around today selling a book “Delinator” for 7¢ mo. & receive a cook book or a dress making book.  We didn’t take it.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up to pump the water out of the cellar this afternoon.  Papa got a Int. check from Hempe, part of it $40.00 pay the rest next week.  Louis Armstutz helped out in “Staggy” Helfrich’s barber shop a few days, “Staggy” has a sore finger.  We went out to Uncle Fred’s & had a pinochle game.  Papa & Aunt Mary against Uncle Fred & Rosalia & Bertille in favor of Pap & Aunt Mary 2 games.  We ate Watermelons, there a 35 lb. one.

Friday, Oct. 16, 1931

The license of Clarence Pabst & 24 & Irene Voges 21 where in the paper, today so a wedding soon.  Vic Eichenseer was here & brought 110 lbs. tankage.  Henry came up & brought a load of corn.  Fr. Grootens was by Joe Watchel’s today.  We all went out to Henry’s had apple puling [sic] frolic, Geodells, Gus & Joe & family, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, they brought a watermelon along, we had that, cake, cookies & wine.

Thursday, Oct. 8, 1931

We cleaned the furnace out today.  Francis Eichenseer went down with 2 trucks this morning, he has Clarence Pabst driving his old truck & he drives a new one. Bertille went over to Hill’s & paid telephone dues $1.00.  He wasn’t at home.  Tonight is meeting there.  We got 24¢ for eggs today.

Thursday, Sept. 17, 1931

Papa is hauling the fresh coal in the basement for this year.  He hauled 2 loads this morning.  Henry was here this afternoon, he was talking about getting his hogs vacinated [sic], Alf. Geodelle, Joe Schilling have there.  There are getting them vacinated [sic] all over.  Papa went over by Steve Rennecker’s awhile.  There was a gent here selling Oriental Rugs.  It is awful hot these days.  Odillo Eichenseer & 2 of his friends from St. Louis left last Friday, for Chicago, he covered a distance of 900 miles with his new car.  They took a 40 miles ride on the lake on a speed boat.  Papa was over at Rennecker’s this afternoon, & Steve he told him, today was his 40 yr. wedding anniversary, so tonight we all went, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Henry’s family, Gus, Klotz, Adam Brauns, Ed Neff, Gus Frisch, the evening was spent in musci [sic], cake, soda, wine where the refreshments served.  Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s this afternoon, papa had to help him, he got his hogs vacinated [sic] Quirin did the work for $8.55.  Albert Cleveland Grover where there, he brought theres up to & got it vacinated [sic], he has only the one.  The egg man was here, we sold 3 doz. 19¢.  A man selling rugs, & one taking pictures of babies where here.

Sunday, Sept. 13, 1931

We went to Smithon [sic] church.  Aunt Mary went to Hecker, he was pretty loud again today for being sick all week.  Bill Freund was here & gave us an invite to George Freund’s Sun. night for a dance.  Wiegands boy’s invited us for a dance at the brick house Wed. night.  Rosalia & Bertille went up to see Mamie & Angela this afternoon.  This evening we went to see Joe Watchel’s little boy, Papa went over to Wagners awhile.  They are chivarie Frank Krolls tonight.  Edwin Watchel is giving a dance at the brick house tonight.  Gus, Blackburn & Roy Stauenbiel playing musci [sic].

Friday, Sept. 4, 1931

Today Rosalia is 20 yrs. old.  The bunch came & surprized [sic] her, where: Mr. & Mrs. Henry Birkner & family, Henry Brand & family, Fred Papenberg & family, Alf. & Elsa Eckert, Rosalia & Rita Braun, Clem & Elmer, Bessie Parker, Hy. Hillsheim, Odillo & Mamie Eichenseer, Christ Buehler & family, Henry Spalt, Mr. & Mrs. Steve Rennecker, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary.  The basement was cleared & dancing begun till 12 o clock, Uncle Fred & Henry furnishing the musci [sic].  Beer, cake, where served.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here for lunch& supper.  It is also Mrs. Geodell’s birthday, they had the celebration Thurs. evening.  Fr. Grooten gets in trouble with everybody, Richert was fined $15.00 & all night in jail for having plum wine, Jack Ganley was arrested, cutting the wires on Hillsheims machine & one thing another, lots news in Hecker, in 1931.  But ain’t so claims it.
