Papa got crushing. We went to Waterloo this afternoon took 5 gals. lard to baker shop. We went up to Maniers fish fry & dance, didn’t go in, listened to the musci [sic], Herzog Nite Owls, Belleville the crowd came first about 10:30 1/8 beer was raffled for attendance prize. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, they went down to the wake at Brauns’.

It rained this morning & turned colder. Papa took 24 doz. eggs to the store & got 9¢, this afternoon he went out to Henry’s & got a load of posts. Roy Stauenfbiel was here & looked at our colts & pigs, but thought it was to much money for him to buy. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up again this afternoon. He helped papa set posts, they where here for lunch, supper. He also brought the check here what Fr. Grootens gave him $20 or $19.23 for he paid Anna Brauns tax, papa had paid it for his house here in town, so now he paid her tax & Uncle Fred had to return the tax receipt. This evening we all went over to Uncle Fred house accross [sic] the street & had a card game, they invited Hy. Armstutz & H.M. Hill, so they played 6 handed. Hy. had one time 1500 trump, & Papa & Uncle Fred bot had it the same time one 1500 spades & the other 1500 hearts, the bid was 2295, Uncle Fred got it, & made it too, they stayed in Hecker all night.

Thursday, Sept. 17, 1931

Papa is hauling the fresh coal in the basement for this year.  He hauled 2 loads this morning.  Henry was here this afternoon, he was talking about getting his hogs vacinated [sic], Alf. Geodelle, Joe Schilling have there.  There are getting them vacinated [sic] all over.  Papa went over by Steve Rennecker’s awhile.  There was a gent here selling Oriental Rugs.  It is awful hot these days.  Odillo Eichenseer & 2 of his friends from St. Louis left last Friday, for Chicago, he covered a distance of 900 miles with his new car.  They took a 40 miles ride on the lake on a speed boat.  Papa was over at Rennecker’s this afternoon, & Steve he told him, today was his 40 yr. wedding anniversary, so tonight we all went, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Henry’s family, Gus, Klotz, Adam Brauns, Ed Neff, Gus Frisch, the evening was spent in musci [sic], cake, soda, wine where the refreshments served.  Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s this afternoon, papa had to help him, he got his hogs vacinated [sic] Quirin did the work for $8.55.  Albert Cleveland Grover where there, he brought theres up to & got it vacinated [sic], he has only the one.  The egg man was here, we sold 3 doz. 19¢.  A man selling rugs, & one taking pictures of babies where here.

We found 7 eggs today.  Rosalia took our first eggs that we got in Hecker to Brauns this afternoon and got .39¢ a dozen.  She had 2 dozen eggs.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here this morning.  Aunt Lizzie was over (at) Rheinecker’s this evening.  Steve trimmed his trees in front of his place this evening.  There was quilting this afternoon at church basement.
