Today is Steve’s birthday. Karl Boll married a yr. & Gambach’s buried 2 yrs. It rained nearly all day. Papa went up town awhile this morning; got his check for $6.50 & sent the insurance for the Whippet $9.66. The bank paid out 10% again, so far it is 25% paid out. We all & George Wagner’s family went over to Rennecker’s. Steve was 68 yrs. old; cake, & beer where served. J Brown was here.

Josie Gregson’s birthday. We went to Red Bud. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here this morning awhile & this afternoon they went to see Louis Birkner’s, Edmund Eckert is getting better they said there, they came back here again & Uncle Adam & Emil was also here, they all had lunch. Abromse [?] Doyle & Joe Kelley & son & Paul Poney where here looked at the colts. Josie Keller & girl friend Miss Mckurns from St. Louis came, Josie has a new Chev. coupe, they had supper here also Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, they took Aunt Mary along down to see Lizzie Boll. About 7:30 they left for St. Louis again, she just got her new car Tues. Lena Meng was here, Josie gave her a ride when they went home, took her along a far as Stehfest corner, Lena went to get the milk. Ed. Burke & family came to look at the colts. Two fellows from Fateyville [sic – Fayetteville] wanted to buy small pigs, where here, company all day, 16 in all.

Papa went out to help Henry haul logs, he had lunch, dinner, lunch there. We washed, ironed, clean basement. Robert Laut’s are moving in there house in Hecker today, Phil Braun, Al. Geodells have trucks, & George Henkel, George Boll, are helping, Blackburn’s, Clevelands also.

We washed, ironed, patched. The wind is so strong, it blew our clothes line to pieces. Papa went out to Henry’s with the mule, helped Henry harrow & sow oats. He had dinner there. Rosalia went & got him this evening with the Whippet. The sewing circle of Red Bud Catholic Church is giving a card party tonite. There is also one in Waterloo given by Mary & Martha Society. Seen in the paper, Mrs. Val. Fristche was suing Wm. Klotz for $10,000 for accident of him & Val Fritche in Smithon [sic] & Hecker road. Ben Neff’s had a big dance Sun. nite, being Mr. Neffs, 53 birthday. Mr. Hy. Burdhorf of Red Bud told Eliza Boll this evening that Mon. was Mrs. Burgdorf’s birthday, & that they have a daughter living far away I believe Montana, she called her & congratulation her mother, it was 2200 mile distant talk, & Mrs. was so happy she cried for joy.

We worked on our quilt most of today. Papa went out again to Henry’s to help him sew oats, 12 bus. but it started raining about 3 oclock, so they had to quit, he was there for dinner. One of our sows died, & Rosalia went down to Eliza Boll’s & telephoned to Johnson Rendering Works at Belleville to get it, him & Romi Meng helped yet to get it, it was sick for a couple of weeks, due to vaccainating [sic]. It was rather cold today.
Monday, Feb. 22, 1932
Washington’s birthday, also Frieda Buehler & Martha Boll. Papa, Rosalia & Jake Neff went out to Henry’s to kill a cow. Rosalia has to stay there while they take it to Waterloo to sell it, this afternoon. She & papa where there for dinner & supper. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up then they took Bertille along to Henry’s, they bought $5.05 & summer saussage [sic] $3.45 & beef $1.60. then they brought Bertille home again, had dinner here. Joe Mueth came over here a little while & looked at our sows. They should all be having pigs & the one of them did, but where all dead. McDermott of Waterloo, & family are now living with Noel & Stella Roscoe down on the farm, work is slack, he is working for Mobile & Ohio Railroad co. Henry brought Rosalia home this evening. Bertille took 9 doz. eggs. got 11¢ doz. at Eichenseers & got the papers. Henry & Leona didn’t sell much beef in Waterloo.

Joe Hilpert was here for dinner. Frank & his brother-in-laws when [sic-went] hunting. Lizzie Boll & Wm. Harbaugh where visitors on today.

We went to Waterloo church. Then went out to Uncle Fred’s for lunch, dinner & supper. This evening we all went down to Joe Gregson’s, Lizzie Boll was along too. Frank Dudenhoeffer’s, where out, from here they went to Henry’s, stayed there awhile then went back again.
