Mr. Eichenseer is 65 yrs. old today, the family where going to have Valley of the Moon, over the radio for him. Rosalia & Bert went out to Henry’s cleaned, & baked, washed. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here got papa & him & Uncle Fred went in & Aunt Mary stayed by Henry’s. Mr. Walter Coap, Paul & Clem Parker, Oliver Pours left yesterday by car for the World’s Fair. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, we fixed 4 chickens, & things for the pinic [sic] & Papa went up to see George Schilling. Henry brought Rosalia home, & Robert went home, he went to the pinic [sic] first with Aunt Mary. Karl Boll’s have a little baby girl since 5 o clock this 9 lbs morn; she is pretty sick, no one alound [sic – allowed] to come into the house for 3 days. It rained & hailed up north terrible, we had a shower, & wind, spoiled the pinic [sic] for awhile. We drove 1 up with the car, after the rain, it was a fair crowd, they got rid of all the chicken & things, we bought cake for 30¢ pies they sold 5¢ a piece. Smithon [sic] Band furnished the musci [sic], the 10 articles where raffled out at 9 o clock, Rich from Belleville won the ft. prize a quilt, lace dresser scarf, Geo. Gresslioem plaid blanket, Ed. Parker, 100 lb. flour F ed Eichenseer; ½ doz. stailes knives & forks, Hamil of Belleville, bed spread, Josie Gregson, pillow cases, H. Becker, pocket watch, Hy. Kirsch Jr. Red Bud, linen tablecloth, Ethel Pour, 5 gal. gas Ed. Coup.

We went to Red Bud, the Catholic will have pinic [sic] & chicken supper, Aug. 8. Hecker ball team played Douglas last Sun. here & won 7 to 5, & today are playing up at Belleville, & lost 24 to 2. Mrs. Cleveland’s is celebrating her birthday today, her mother came along back with here from Centralia. Ruth Braun was here selling chances for the pinic here in Hecker on Aug. 12; we took one. Mr. & Mrs. Rennecker came over awhile, till they got company. Katie came. It sure rained nice here; some places they can thresh like by Pour’s.

Papa got crushing done. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came & rode along with us to Waterloo in the Whippet, went to Mrs. Schlingmans sale got all kinds of thrash; we brought our chev along back, it is all repaired now, only not the battery yet. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had supper here. It was a terrible wind this evening & a little rain. Mrs. Stauenfbiel was over to see if she could find a way to get to Red Bud to confirmation tomorrow; she found a way with Pour’s.

Papa got crushing done. We finished the quilt & took it out of the frame. Mrs. Joe Watchel & boy where here this afternoon, & invited us to go to Angela’s Eichenseer’s this evening, she is 18 yrs. old today. Rosalia & Bertille went, stopped in at Watchel & till she was ready then by Laut’s, Olivia & boys went too, & Clarence Wittenauer & Cecil Pour where the only ones at the party, we played 6 hand pinochle, hamburger sandwiches, & pickles, & cake, where served, we gave her a towel & Clarence brought here a Ivory compact, that is all she got then. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where at Rod & Gun Club House at a dance, public, Cortner’s invited him to help furnish musci [sic].

We cut the wings of our chickens this morn, so they stay in. Sowed turnip seed today. There was a man round selling muskmellons [sic] & watermellons [sic] & from New Athens. Henry was here this afternoon, he got whey. Hy. Armstutz got the hayrake this afternoon. Walter Pour’s have a baby boy since last Thurs. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this evening. Henry & family came up after the mule.

We took our onions out this morning. Papa took the saddle horse & went riding. Mr. Thed. Klinkhardt died this morning at 3 o clock in St. Louis. John & Mrs. Pour are going over this afternoon. Henry came up this afternoon & brought some potatoes up, & got some when at the station, papa got a barn full too. Clarence Wagner came down this afternoon to see the horses we shared there mares [? illegible]. To sent letters today, have to pay 3 cents postage.

We sure did have some rain last night. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary was here for lunch this afternoon then her, & Bertille went over to Ed. Meng’s, took them some flower, & brought some of there’s back. Mrs. Rennecker canned 41 qts. of cherries, she still has a few on the tree yet. Papa is setting posts today. Jac. Helfrich & his wife where injured in an automobile accident in Belleville the other day. Mr. Laut & Stuart where talking to Papa in the field this afternoon, Mr. Hill & Meng also. Mr. Klinkhardt from St. Louis is out visiting in Hecker by Mrs. Pour. Mr. Hill & him & others where playing pinoche at Griffins this morning & this afternoon. Her is leaving with bus this evening.

Today is Bobby’s birthday, he is 5 yrs old. We all went out, this evening. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were there too, but that is all. Cake & lemonade were served. Papa is fixing chicken pens for our little chicks, they are hatching today. Ted Eichenseer’s kid & Pours, Reagans, kids were here & asked for permission to play ball on that piece of ground here by the house. Papa told them no they couldn’t. Henry was in Waterloo this afternoon to the doctor, he told him he should go home & go to bed, he had tonsilitis.

Papa got crushing done this morn. It is such a nice day too, it is warm for being Jan. Willie Ganley’s children got the measles. Paul Pour has them too. Gilbert Birkner was sent home from school the other day, he had fever. Henry was here this morning, he brought some oats up too the preist’s from Peter Reheis. There was a man from Collinsville here this morning. He wants to buy timber. Papa went up town this afternoon. Walter Weber’s of E. St. Louis have a little baby girl. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary was here this afternoon. They came up to file in their claim in the Hecker Bank. Frank Birkner’s have a little baby boy since yesterday afternoon. They are going to christened it Sun. afternoon, Roland.
